The old saying is that J,10 always makes the nut straight - but that is assuming both hole cards are needed to make the best 5 card hand from the 7 available. I think Doc has taken this to read that if your lowest card is a 10 then you always make the nut straight which is obviously incorrect.
If you hold KJ for example. You could make a straight with this hand and it wouldn't be the nut straight. The board could be Q J 10 9 8. In this instance the nut straight would be made by someone holding AK (both of which were higher than a 9 last time I looked).
