Re: Beijing Olympics - Men's 100m

disappointed this is the only market up so far.

i was actually looking at ping pong singles odds i think this one rarely goes to form so could be worth a few double figures each way goes. its going to be on my list of events or sure.

suppose ill have to wait until a week before the mickey mouse event

Ndure, Gay, Dix could be a good bet for the woofters who think this will be a race of stamina.

Pretty interesting discussion going on here
Still a bit early for serious betting for the Olympics, but Slicks's approach looks profitable...

Re: Beijing Olympics - Men's 100m

Hmmm. No individual double-up for Tyson Gay as he injures himself and falls over in the US national trials (for the 200 metres) and is out of the 200 metres so he'll be fully concentrating on the 100 metres.

World champion Gay won't run 200 in Beijing after trials injury - World Sports Report - CBSSports.com

Betfair have Usain Bolt the 11/10 favourite with Asafa Powell 6/4 and Tyson Gay 11/5 (27/1 the field). The bookies are not so kneejerk and still make Tyson Gay the favourite at 5/4 but have clipped Usain's Bolt's odds as he remains the firm second favourite at around 7/4.

How injured is Tyson Gay?

Re: Beijing Olympics - Men's 100m

I'm not sure that Gay is injured too badly, although there is talk of his 100 metre bid in doubt. That said this could all be spin as it appears it was only severe cramp of the left hamstring that cost him a place in the 200 metres due to the harsh US trial rules. A psychological blow as much as anything as he cannot repeat his 100/200m double of the World Championship..

One person who certainly can attain the Olympic double is Usain 'Lightning' Bolt He is the 200 metre specialist, but the way he has been tearing up the 100 metres has been impressive. To look at him you would think he isnt quite the 100 metre world record holder. Tall and bulky, but his power is explosive... He still hasnt fully committed to the 100 metres, but surely there is no better incentive then to do the double with Gay out of the 200 metres..?

Ok, Gay did 9.68 , although it was wind assisted, but still... You couldnt split them based on that, but with the 'injury' and the fact that the Bolt looked mightyly impressive in the Jamiacan trials (the the way to slowed down around 20 metres to go, outrunning Poweell and still clocked 9.85 was vey impressive..)

The consensus is with some of the bookies that the 'injury' was the blip and with the 9.68 time Gay is the fave, but the Bolt is looking good as well and 7/4 in what I think is a 2-horse race (Powell won't catch them up, no matter what he says about building up gradually for the games,) is a nice price still, as you just don't know what really is the njury with Gay...

The Lightning Bolt to win the 100m Olympic Gold - 20 pt stake @ 7/4 (Corals)

Re: Beijing Olympics - Men's 100m

Well it appears that Tyson Gay aint poorly in the slightest and the exchanges and betting show this as it becomes very tight between them...

I hope the wind that assisted Gay's 9.68 was a force 10 gale...

Re: Beijing Olympics - Men's 100m

Today's Bettingzone Market News:

1400: Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell go head-to-head over 100m at Crystal Palace next week while the fastest man on earth, Usain Bolt, goes in the 200m at the same meeting.

The explosive action could give a guide as to who will be crowned Olympic champion in Beijing next month while there could be world records smashed on the fast track.

World champion Gay remains Sky Bet's 5/4 favourite for 100m gold despite a recent injury scare while Bolt, who clocked 9.72 seconds in May, is available at 15/8 with Powell back at 11/4.

Re: Beijing Olympics - Men's 100m

Have to say that I strongly fancy Bolt in both the 100m and 200m. Whilst he is already the world record holder over the shorter distance, he still doesn't look to have maximised his immense potential and I think a huge world record is on the cards for Beijing. I'm definitely backing him heavily while he's second favourite.
