But that’s exactly what’s happening after the Chicago Fire’s 2-0 victory over the Kansas City Wizards Monday in the Open Cup, the United States’ version of England’s FA Cup.
“Tonight we had a glimpse of what`s to come; there were a lot of bright spots and I`d like to use this momentum,” Chicago coach Dave Sarachan told MLSnet.com. “We can use tonight`s win to start heading north and not south.”
Both teams used the game to play many of their younger players and by all accounts the Chicago youngsters passed their auditions with flying colors. The game also marked the return of All-Star defender Jim Curtin who had been out since early May with a fractured foot.
“I`ve been saying it all year, I feel we`re a deep team. Knock on wood, we`re also healthy now,” said Sarachan. “Wednesday is an important game for the Chicago Fire; we`ve got to win.”
