The Polish international striker has also been linked with a potential January switch to Fulham but the latest indications suggest that Villa Park could be his destination in a £2.3million deal.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill is working flat out to strengthen his squad during the transfer window and now looks close to adding another striker to his ranks in the form of Matusiak.

However the Ulsterman is remaining coy over any potential transfer targets.

"I'm hoping we can bring in somebody but you're never sure until someone signs," said O'Neill.

"There's no point in saying 'we're doing this, this and this' if one thing doesn't materialise for one reason or another.
