BetDirect Tipsters Challenge Cup - Rules and questions

1) This is a 2-legged knock-out cup competition, starting at the 64 participant stage, meaning 6 rounds. The aim of the competition is to run the competition over 12 consecutive weeks on midweek fixtures.

2) BetDirect are the sponsors of this tournament, and all odds must be taken from their site.

3) There are a maximum of 64 places available......unless otherwise advised to the admins all players in the current TC season will be given a place, which means 56 places at the current time, so there will be a number of places available which are allocated on a first come first served basis. If a current TC member has no intention of playing, please advise the admins. Keith, Parahandy, and Rockin Cherub, who have missed 4 or more weeks of the current season, will be included only if they specifically request to be included before Saturday 10th February. Otherwise their places may be given away if demand is sufficient.

4) Each player is drawn against another player each round & the tie consists of 2 legs in consecutive weeks. Each leg the player has 10 points to bet, & can have either 1 or 2 singles with that bank, the staking plan at his/her discretion. There is no option for a double multiple, you pick either 1 or 2 singles & the winnings are added together. You must use the entire 10 points per leg. Once the designated bookie produces their odds you can make the selection & place it on the thread provided from sunday onwards. For the semi-final and final, selections may be sent to RCGills with the current odds via PM if preferred, once he has received both sides selections in the tie each leg, he will put the bets up on the forum. The final score is obviously the 2 legs added together, & the player with the higher cumulative score progresses through to the following round. The only alteration in this is the player drawn against RCGills (should he reach the semi-final/final) must PM his bet to one of Swooperman, Beanie or Grga, as RCGills will do, to avoid RC gaining any advantage.....unless the player is happy to just put them on the thread.

5) The bookie will tend to release their odds on the sunday & monday, & you will be paid on the price you take at the time of selection...if it falls afterwards thats not the players problem. The games allowed in the selections are in a kick off window of 18:00 monday through to 22:00 UK time thursday. Obviously the selection has to be made before kick off of the relevant game but the deadline for selections is 19:30 UK time wednesday, the thursday games are allowed so you can pick from UEFA Cup games where necessary. Any club game in Europe offered by the designated bookie can be chosen in the specified period, & the selections are made in a simple 1X2.

6) In weeks where there are very few midweek games available to choose from, at the administrator's discretion, the time frame may be extended to include Friday evening games. If this is the case it will be clearly announced in the relevant thread at the start of the week.

7) If a player only bets in 1 leg then only that bet scores in his total, he does not receive the 10pnts no bet to his total. He is not however automatically eliminated if he only bets in 1 leg....if that is enough he qualifies. In case of players ending up level, the odds are calculated on the decimal figure given by the bookie, not the fractional, & the final figures are worked out to 2 decimal places. If they are still level, then in the event that one of the players has missed one leg while the other has shown up for both legs (except in the event of players brought in from the reserve list after the 1st round 1st leg, see rule 13), the player to have shown up for both legs will go through. If the players are still level a tie break takes place on the weekend following immediately where the admins will be in touch with those involved. The weekend tie break is totally independent from the TC League competition

8) The aim will be to have the draw for the next week up by the start of the weekend leading in to that round, so that players know who theyre playing if that makes a difference to them.

9) Prize structure: Winner: £85
Runner Up: £50
3rd: £30
4th: £15
Losing Quarter Finalists: £5

10) The bet deadlines are final, you have plenty of time to post so if you are late then that is your problem.

11) If you believe your selection is in danger of postponement, pick a 'reserve' selection when placing your bets, and if your selection is postponed the 'reserve' will be used instead. If you fail to pick a 'reserve' and your selection is postponed, your stake will be lost, unless your opponent's selection is also postponed, in which case you may both make a new selection.

12) As per the bookies, all games are settled on 90 minutes play, whether league or cup. If a game is abandoned it will count as postponed no matter how long has gone in the game. For rules on postponements see above.

13) Any player allocated a place who fails to make a selection for the first round first leg may, in the event that there are still players left on the reserve list wanting a place, be removed from the competition, with their place being awarded to a player on the reserve list for the 2nd leg. Obviously the player from the reserve list may be at a disadvantage, as they will only have one leg in which to beat their opponent's score over 2 legs, but at least this way they'll still have a chance in the competition.

In the event that there are more no-shows than players on the reserve list (i.e. 8 people don't turn up for the 1st round 1st leg, and only 5 people are on the waiting list), those with fewest posts on the forum shall be the first to be eliminated. If that sounds unfair to those newer members of the forum involved in the competition, just remember that as long as you show up for the competition, the post count won't come into it.

Any players who think they will be unable to place a selection in ANY round/leg for whatever reason should PM either Rcgills, Beanie, Grga or Swooperman as soon as possible.

In the unlikely event that two players drawn against each other fail to show up for the 1st leg, are both replaced by players from the reserve list and then those reserve players fail to show up for the 2nd leg, none of those 4 players shall go through, with the place in the next round going to the highest scoring loser from the 1st round
