Re: Correct play?
C'mon christian you should know better than that.
You've got a drawing hand, if you hit your draw are you definitely going to win the pot ? No ! Someone else could be drawing diamonds to a bigger flush in which case you are in all sorts of trouble. Or as you correctly deduced, someone could have a 2. You could hit your draw and the board pairs and you still lose. Let's say the card values were as favourable suit wise as possible ie 2 Spades 9 Clubs 8 hearts 8 clubs.
This way there's 9 diamonds left to draw to and no chance of runner runner diamonds losing you the pot.....had the 88 included an 8 diamonds this was another way you could lose it.
Sticking those probabilities in a calculator -
57- 23.7%
29- 67.1%
88- 9.2%
Only around a 1 in 4 chance of winning that hand, yet you only got odds of 1 in 3. As you suspected someone had a 2 !!! You should know that even if you hit your hand there's too many hands that could beat you anyway ! Higher flush draw, full house ! Interesting to note that say the 92 off suit was just 94 off suit, ie 4s and 2s. You are still only 31.3% to win the hand.
The key thing is if you are drawing you have to be pretty certain if you hit your draw that you win. With people going all in there it had to suggest they had something decent, the exact hands which would negate your draw.
