On a totally different subject, here's a reminder of the Gold Cup results
1st Kauto Star (Bred in France)
2nd Exotic Dancer (Bred in France)
3rd Turpin Green (Bred in Ireland)
4th Monkerhostin (Bred in France)
All these stats can be very useful if you want to narrow down a handful of selections but anyone who chooses to totally disregard a fancy because of previous stats is a prize tool.

The Gold Cup is over 3m 2f, so the demands on stamina are considerably less that the gruelling 4m 4f Grand National trip.
I agree with what you say about stats only being a guide and that you should never disregard a horse purely on that (HEDGEHUNTER is a good example, he might go really close under a big weight but something with less pounds to carry should be too quick for him late on) but the French bred stat in the National is looking pretty strong and there is logical reasoning behind it.
