It could easily be a similar thing here. My AK in this example works exactly the same as pocket pairs like 88 or 66 would in this hand as well. Theyd be check/call as well just the same.

Whenever the PFR bets half pot or less you always gota be suspicious. Especially if its just under half pot or exactly the same bet as the amount they raised preflop, thats usually a very good tell. Exact half pot or just a little over is kinda 50/50 as some people value bet with 1/2 pot bets.
