Re: Scottish Premier League: 1/2nd Sept

Falkirk not up to much it seems after todays game, possibly worthy of opposing a little longer depending on opposition. Robson did manage to score which was a handy 10/1 shot .

Hibs managing to get the win, although a little tighter than they would have imagined, almost a good lay there for Beanie .

Killie-Aberdeen as unpredictable as ever although the Dons apparently defended well and the loss of Naismith no doubt was a blow to Killie.

Rangers-Gretna wasn't the best of games. Gers lucky to go in 1-0 at HT as they played poorly, but managed to get the goals to clear the very good value bet of -2 goals (got 11/10 myself at the Ibroxs in-stadium bookies).

Onto tomorrows game;

St Mirren vs Celtic

Form (recent L-R oldest): StM - WWLL ; Cel - WWWD

Home/Away Form: StM - 1-0-1 (F 2, A 2) ; Cel - 2-0-0 (F 7, A 2)

H2H(Last 6 games) C 5-1 S, S 1-3 C, C 2-0 S (other 3 pre 2001)

Interesting trends/points to note

* Celtic 3 wins out of last 3 games.
* 2/1 Overs/Unders - 1 out of 1 Overs at St Mirren.

Players signed before transfer window closure

St Mirren: Chris Birchall - very good midfielder, made 3 appearances for Trinidad and Tobago at the 2006 World Cup. Should be a starting player easily.

Cel: Only a 16 y.o Italian defender added to Brown, Donati etc, but will only be one for the future. No one else in.

Team news: BBC SPORT | Football | Scottish Premier | St Mirren v Celtic (Sun)

I've been impressed with the level of some of St Mirrens signings this season tbh. Haining (D), Mason (M), Dargo (F) to name just 3, but the latest one now has International caps, including 3 at the WC in 2006. Birchall (otherwise known as the white bloke playing for T & T) should find himself a regular starter and is a v.good player. Anyway, St Mirren in good form in the league with a late 0-1 victory away to Falkirk last week. They will need to bounce back from a v.poor 0-1 defeat in the CIS cup to 3rd division leaders East Fife and also up their average 1-0-1 form at home. Looking a little shot-shy at Love Street, scoring and conceding one a game there. Dargo (F), Malone (D), Molloy (M) and Maxwell (D) are all out and may affect them negatively.

Celtic surprisingly got rid of Kenny Miller before the transfer window shut (think he was avg. 3 goals in about 3 games) and didn't bring anyone in to cover. Never covered any other positions tbh, so Strachan must be happy with his lot, although I still think he's a little weaker at the back than he could be, but I dont get paid for being a manager . Celtic won 1-3 last time out here (went 0-1 up, then 1-1 before winning iirc) and have a good recent record at Love St. 2 wins from 2 away games and scoring plenty on their travels, although Miller has some of those, so may be more pressure on guys like JVoH, McDonald, Zurawski and Killen to keep this up. Celtic coming off 120 mins plus penalties against Spartak Moscow in midweek, so may be interesting to see what effect (if any) that may have in the later stages of the game. 4 days between games should be plenty time to recover though imo.

Prediction: Celtic to look for early goals and come away with a victory to keep pressure on Rangers at the top.
Other bets?: Interesting that St Mirren have scored in 2/3 of the games, No - Celtic clean sheet? above evens would be ok, and possible Draw/Celtic HT/FT @ 5.1 as Celtic seem to be performing better in the later stages of games so far this season.
