Re: no 1 downloaded song within 3mts

As interesting as that is, it's probably too taxing for the bookie to price it up and given the timeframe involved would suggest they'd be the ones most likely to be on the receiving end of a bad result.

I'd think you'd have been given ungenerous odds of something like 2/1 and a smallish limit of oooh, perhaps £100 just to make sure there isn't some sneaky shenanigans going on (like encouraging an internet campaign to download the song or something like that).

There's been a few campaigns before encouraging folks in the UK to download certain songs to try and be number one/make a mockery of the new chart rules such as Chris Moyles insisting that people download Billie's Honey to the Bee (it reached number 11 in the download chart and number 17 in the singles chart).

I suppose you'd have to approach the bookie yourself and make it quick if you're that insistent and that you'd be looking at this page for the next nine weeks as to whether or not you've won.

It's something out of the blue and something that would smell a bit fishy to bookies. I remember Heat magazine approaching William Hill back in 1999 asking them that they wanted to place a bet that three singles in three weeks would consecutively be number one in the singles chart and they were laughed out of the building by Graham Sharpe who told them they wouldn't take such a bet.

Those three singles? Lenny Kravitz's Fly Away, Britney Spears' Baby One More Time and Blur's Tender.

Ironically William Hill would have won as Britney Spears kept Blur off to remain number one in the singles chart for a second week.
