Agree 100% with kris, these short handed games are normally very agressive, so, my idea was that I wanted to see the flop for as little as possible bearing in mind I know I need to hit. A pre flop raise from me with a mid pair would only have the AK guy bumping in a big re-raise which then gives me a tough decision with the most likely outcome being that I need to lay it down. Still think I did the right thing pre flop, my only doubt was that with the turn bringing very realistic straight/flush possibilities I should probably have raised before I did, like on the flop then turn..
