Champions day - and more besides
Right as not one of you has started a thread about what in my opinion is the last major highlight of the flat season.
Yes its Newmarket, yes its Saturday the 20th of October BUT no its not the Cesarewitch!!
I am obviously talking about the biggest 2YO race of the season the Darley Dewhurst. There is one horse in this race that really catches my imagination and it is New Approach. At 6/4 he looks a decent prospect, won really well at the Curragh and this weekend should confirm the order with Rio De La Plata. The two who may give New Approach something to worry about is the unbeaten Ravens Pass and the recent Champagne winner Mccartney.
However, I have never seen a horse that gallops as well as New Approach, that run at the Curragh was amazing and I think he had plenty left in the tank that day. If he did he is some amazing prospect.
There are other races tomorrow as well!!!
The Cesarewitch... well I have a shortlist...
1. Macorville
2. Som Tala
3. Fair Along
4. Al Eile
I think the draw has gone against Samurai Way, and I wasn't really in favour of the Cumani runner anyhow. I like Som Tala, the run in the Chester Cup was amazing, coming with a wet sail at the end to run into the places. Fair Along will be up with the pace throughout and looks like a galloper who will be suited by the track. Al Eile is a horse I have great respect for and at 28/1 looks a good EW punt.
I will have some forecasts with those 4 choices as well as little EW singles.
The Champion stakes looks interesting, many things have been said about the group 1 winner Notnowcato, including that he is an unfair group 1 winner. I am of the opinion that he has a leading claim in this race, BUT I look at the bare form and I decide the value lies elsewhere.
I think the 3yo will be the ones to beat here, the classic generation looks a good one with the likes of Eagle Mountain and Literato being leading lights in races like this. Add to that the return of Mount Nelson and the ever competitive Creachidoir and I think one of these will win this. I am having a little on all three EW with forecasts too.
