Re: NFL: 7-11th Sep

At this early stage I must admit that I like the Rams, Eagles, Seahawks & Cowboys. Plus my Raiders have probably their only chance of the season to be over .500 - although they're gonna be better than last season aren't they that's for sure....isn't it

Re: NFL: 7-11th Sep

pydoom, you are a Raiders fan? Nice! I've been a Raider fan all my life. It's fun being a Raider fan here in San Diego. Believe me, we will be much improved compared to last year, and our D will be even better too

Here's my short list for week 1 (I'll probably have a few sides too)

1. TOMORROW'S PLAY, WILL POST LATER

2. PITT. -4.5
3. JAGS -6.5
4. PHILLY -3
5. NE -6.5
6. SEATTLE -6

Re: NFL: 7-11th Sep

Good to hear Sponger - I think there could be some very good opportunities this season for the Raiders ATS, as they are being totally written off by a lot of people. I don't know how many games they will win, but the losses are certainly going to be tighter than they were for the last half of last season.

Glad you mentioned seattle there as I had missed them and they should cover 6 points easily.

Bravo to Sky for expanding their NFL coverage this season with punters offered three games back-to-back on Sunday plus the Monday night games as well.

The coverage this weekend kicks off with an absolute screamer - the New England Patriots travelling to the New York Jets in a repeat of last season's AFC Wild Card clash which saw the Patriots come out on top 37-16.

So, first day of the season, two divisional rivals plus a little extra added spice with no love lost between New England head coach Bill Belichick and his protege Eric Mangini on the opposite sideline.

As mentioned in our outright season preview, the Patriots have taken a completely different tack in the off-season by raiding the franchise coffers to bring on board a string of high-profile free agents.

Main area of concern was the receiving corps and that has been revamped with Wes Welker, Kelley Washington, Donte Stallworth and coup de gras Randy Moss all arriving at Foxboro.

That is a huge upgrade compared to the likes of Reche Caldwell (cut the other day) and should put a stop to a rare rumbling from QB Tom Brady that former favourite target Deion Branch had not been adequately replaced.

But with such a stellar cast comes potential problems.

Giving them all enough game time to match their egos could be interesting - the hugely gifted Moss in particular can be selfish and disruptive if he feels the ball thrown is not being thrown his way.

However, the early signs are that Moss has bought into the Patriots 'team first' outlook, although there has been no sign of him during pre-season due a 'hamstring injury'.

Perhaps Belichick is shrewdly keeping him under wraps until the season proper.

They will be without DE Richard Seymour and safety Rodney Harrison though - big losses both and an early test for Belichick's legendary ability at shuffling his pack.

The Jets are clearly progressing in the right direction and Mangini has all the trappings of becoming a top-class head coach.

QB Chad Pennington's return to near his best from injury plus the WR Jerricho Cotchery's breakout season were factors in their route to the post-season while RB Thomas Jones has arrived from Chicago to help bolster the ground game.

But they do still look a little way off the Patriots overall despite a 17-14 regular season win last November and may just have to give best again in what is sure to be a highly-charged encounter.

Chicago then get underway again after losing last season's Super Bowl to the Colts.

They travel to the West Coast to face San Diego, who will be looking at improving on a premature exit from the playoffs last season when they underperformed against the Patriots.

New HC Norv Turner has been installed while they have retained the vast majority of the personnel that took them to a 2006 13-3 record - the best in the NFL.

All eyes will be on Bears QB Rex Grossman.

Yes, he guided them to a Super Bowl.

But he also had a hugely inconsistent campaign that saw him swing from the sublime to the ridiculous - usually in the same game.

He believes that he is more than up to the task but this is going to be a real test of his credentials against a team that reckons on being live Super Bowl contenders.

Some fascinating live action to watch but in terms of a Week One wager, I like the look of Tennessee at Jacksonville.

The Titans are a young and improving side who produced some dramatic, confidence-boosting wins last season after rookie Vince Young took over at quarterback.

They could prove better still as they develop and can turn a productive pre-season into a successful start at a Jaguars side under a bit of pressure.

Incumbent QB Byron Leftwich was one of the surprises in the final cull as teams trim their roster to 53 players and the job now goes to the more mobile David Garrard.

HC Jack Del Rio is under scrutiny himself to get his side winning and the vibrant visitors might be able to take advantage of any early jitters and a 6.5-point start.

Re: NFL: 7-11th Sep

I like your ML play on KC--I've been looking at that one. I'll def take the points though.

This will be a very strong play for me: OVER 37.5 Jags/Titans
Quote:
The last 4 times these 2 teams played each other they went over the total
12/17/06 JAC 17 - TEN 24 TEN O 40.5
11/05/06 TEN 7 - JAC 37 JAC O 37.5
01/01/06 TEN 13 - JAC 40 JAC O 36.5
11/20/05 JAC 31 - TEN 28 TEN O 39

-Over is 7-1-1 in TEN last 9 games as an underdog
-Over is 13-3-1 in TEN last 17 games overall
I'm still finalizing the rest of my card. Here's what I have so far:
KC +3
PITT. -4.5
PHILLY -3
NE -6
SEATTLE -6

I have a good feeling about my Raiders, but won't play it as it could just be a homer pick.

Grga--Where are you buddy?

Re: NFL: 7-11th Sep

Hey...

I have cut mine down to this so far, but will only play half stake this week.. Maybe also next week...

Jags -7 (jags is superior to titans. And i have them as a 10win team this season. At home they are very strong)

Eagles -3 (Eagles has experienced team, vs packers with old favre.. At least 2INT from him.. 1 returned for TD)

Broncos -3 (I see bills as one of the worst team this season, after they have lost so many great defensive players... Broncos gotta get out and win from the beginning, so they wont be humiliated in the last game like last year)

Steelers -4,5 (Browns, also one of the worst teams.. While i think Big Ben could do some great things this year. Have them to reach playoff)

Panthers/Rams U43 (panthers only 1TD in preseason. And rams wont score that much.. also they both has trends of Under in week1)

Dont like to bet so many favorites in the first week.. (and already have bet colts) And only jags is home team...

So will problably remove a game or 2 before kickoff.. But by now i like these..
