Re: Golf : Ryder Cup - September 22-24

Quick over view of bets selected so far:

Top Euro Scorer:
Westwood @ 12/1
Clarke @ 12/1 .....................e/w 1/4 odds 1,2,3
best price for both is now 10/1 ..so not bad.

Top Us scorer:
Cink e/w @ 12/1 ......still available @ betdirect
Henry e/w @ 40/1 .....now 33/1 , as low as 14/1

Top Debutant:
Lay Stenson @ 5/2 ..... drifted to 7/2, general 3/1
Karlsson @ 4/1 ...now best @ 11/4

Top Wildcard scorer
Westwood @11/4 ....top priced @ 9/4

Hit 1st European shot:
D Clarke @ 12/1 ....did cut to 10/1 , but beat bet now.

Hole in One : 9/2 paddypower no change

Biggest winning margin:
4&2 @ 40/1
3&2 @ 80/1
10&8 @ 500/1 all the same

1st day leaders:
Europe @ Evs .....now 11/10 bet365 only.

Overall , not a bad start for value snapped up. I partricularly like the JJ Henry bet as Lehman has view of long hitters , so I'd say Henry will get at least 3 matches , possibly 4.
Clarke/Westwood still look over the odds @ 10's so 12/1 leaves me delighted. I'd advise anyone to back them e/w at these odds , as I think Monty will only be called upon to play all 5 if they are down at the end of Sat's morning pairings.

New Bets:

Henry 2 or more points @ Evs expekt.com
very appealing. His singles could be anyone's guess but after a few matches on the course he will fancy himself to do well in them. That's a near 1pt , plus a couple of halves or a win will do the trick.
Paired with Cink is a good call by Lehman and they could be a tough double to crack.

Cink/Henry:
I'm very tempted by their morning match with odds of 9/5 available......it's just a bit too big when you have Casey/Karlsson opposing them. This is an evenly matched game in my eyes, so 9/5 is huge.
It really can go either way , but of course we are seeing the win of Casey in the Matchplay and Karlssons good form also, being factored in , but it seems to have been factored in TOO much.
Bear in mind they are the TRICKY 2nd match , with a defeat of Monty/Harrington bringing pressure to bear ...all in all it seems a value call on Cink/Henry @ 9/5.

I've also done on Day 1
DiMarco/Mickelson to beat Clarke/Westwood @ 6/5
Woods/Furyk to beat Monty/Harrington @ EVS

I'll be the first to admit I know fuck all about golf. Spent a bit of time reading up on this as I watch the odd tourney if I am stuck at work when theres nothing else on and I am stuck at work this weekend. Some great stuff on this thread as well by the way, great work guys.

Everything I read says Europe wins this and it seems everyone is backing them at 4/5 ish. I dont like gut feelings much I try to ignore them but I have a gut feeling here that I aint ignoring. I am with the "Know fuck all" camp!
U.S.A to win for me.

Re: Golf : Ryder Cup - September 22-24

I know a bit about golf, just never really bet on it. I do know one thing for sure, don't piss Tiger off. Can't pass up taking him and Furyk to beat Monty/Harrington. I can't find this at evens anymore though. I'm also gonna have a little dabble on the US to win outright.

Re: Golf : Ryder Cup - September 22-24

When do they announce whos going to be playing the foursomes? They wait until after the four balls are complete? If so wont be much time to look at it. Do we expect much in the way of changes at all in the pairings?

Re: Golf : Ryder Cup - September 22-24

On the USA side we may well do, MrM.

I personally hope Woods/Furyk stay paired as the 4Somes require a bit more thought as it is alternate shots, so you have to have thought the 18holes thru as certain holes will favour certain players.
e.g you want Woods teeing off on the par 5's to get the distance rather than Furyk hitting the middle but leaving Woods the dilemma of having to wind one up for the green or laying up.

It may not seem to be relevant but it is.
Woods off the tee and putting first on practically all the holes will be the desire , meaning Woods will have the pressure of keeping it straight whilst applying the power....problems looming.

For Europe , those that win in the morning 4balls are usually kept together , but I expect Casey/Karlsson to give way to Howell or Donald in the afternoon. Doubt Stenson will get in on it , or McGinley.

Re: Golf : Ryder Cup - September 22-24

Here is where the value lies in each game if I were to bet on each imo

Monty/Harrington v Woods/Furyk

Definitely 17/10 on Monty/Harrington is the value call there for me. The bookies know everyone and their cat wants to back woods in every golf thing ever, theyve factored that in and made it shorter than it should be imo. If youd only ever watched these 4 players in past Ryder cups youd be reversing these odds. Woods/Furyk are not a good bet at Evens and worse imo and nothing will change my mind on that, whatever the outcome.

Casey/Karlsson v Cink/Henry

Pretty interesting match up this and a case could be made for either I think just depending on different viewpoints. IF the european pair take their matchplay form into this then 5/6 looks pretty good but I think Cink and Henry will be a decent pair and 9/5 is good if Henry plays as well as people think he might. I wouldnt bet on this one myself as it looks like one which could throw a suprise but probably more likely the European pairing wins well. Value wise id rather be on the 9/5 though.

Garcia/Olazabal v Toms/Wetterich

This is definitely Europes best chance for points in the fourballs and the odds reflect that with 4/6 standard. 1 bookie (betfred) has gone 4/5 though and I think this is a decent bet. Garcia is a super great performer in Ryder cups gone by, hes played 12 fourballs/foursomes and only ever lost one (his record in foursomes is 6 wins from 6 btw). I like him to go fantastic again and Olazabal will be a solid foil here. Toms is a good player imo but nothing more than solid and I dont really think this Wetterich guy is up to much and wont offer up many winning holes here. I can see Europe winning this one pretty good and I think 4/5 is decent.

Mickleson/Di Marco v Clarke/Westwood

In theory Mickelson and Di Marco should be a fantastic partnership imo, I really like both players. 1 bookie I can see (totesport) goes 11/10 and I think thats a fair bet here but not great value or anything. Not to fond about backing against the gutsy European pairing though and if there is to be a halved game in these 4 games id back this to be it and maybe that could be worth a chance. I wouldnt back Clarke and Westwood to win here though.

So in conclusion I think these are the possible bets to be made in order of decreasing sweetness

Garcia/Olazabal 4/5
Monty/Harrington 17/10
Mickleson/Di Marco 11/10
Cink/Henry 9/5

Re: Golf : Ryder Cup - September 22-24

Morning Fourballs:

Monty/Harrington vs Woods/Furyk :

bet365 @ 17/10 on Euro pairing is a standout price , but bets on USA is Evs @ totesport.
Close match in all areas so hard to call. I think it means more to USA than Europe in terms of winning, and that's because Europe have such a strong squad that they will feel a loss in match 1 is recoverable, while USA will be seriously screwed if this opening point from the strongest pairing is lost.
That's an edge in terms of 'pressure felt' by both teams.
Got to give the value call top Europe on this one.

Casey/Karlsson vs Cink/Henry : see previous post

Garcia/Olazabal vs Toms/Wetterich;
Who knows how Olazabal will play? He can be very erratic as the last 12 months have shown.
However, Garcia is in good form and Ollie did shot a decent score at the weekend , so it looks ok.
The USA pairing are the weakest couple on show , with Toms and a rookie not exactly any real threat on all known evidence/form.
Having said that this would be a match I'd see a Tie as a possible result.
I wouldn't be rushing to take odds on about this Euro pairing.

Clarke/Westwood vs Mickleson/DiMarco

The match of the morning for me. No contest.
Lefty could have a dream round in these conditions with the greens very receptive and an emphasis on getting it close to the pin , so no long putts are required. It will be a slow paced green all day.
He has the short game to kill any challenge. DiMarco will keep them psyched the way round , so it could be tough to beat these two.
The Euro pairing will have the most vocal crowd, plus being last out Woosie has ensured the greatest support over the last few holes. Smart move.
Clarke is often forgotten for having a great short game as well , but recent tournaments are to blame with only the odd sighting of a low 60's, usually in the 1st or 2nd round. He does hold the course record here, 60, so that's a plus!
Westwood played brilliantly in Germany , losing out to a sublime Karlsson. A repeat of that will put them on the leaderboard early on.

The extensive course experience that Westwood and Clarke have will be invaluable to them , so a big, big edge goes to Europe.
Take the odds on Europe to put one over the Yanks before a very satisfying lunch!

Correct scores for the morning matches of Euro 2.5-1.5 , and Euro 3-1 are sound bets , but I'll have little punt on a whitewash , Euro 4-0 @ 22/1 bet365.
COME ON!!!!!!
