Re: CC League 1 Close Season News & Links

We all dream of a team of Ivan Sproules, a team of Ivan Sproules, a team of Ivan Sproules

Well so the song goes apparently. Seems like he'll be a good signing - Hibs fans are sorry to see him go.

Re: CC League 1 Close Season News & Links

Quote:
29-year-old forward Matt Jansen has teamed up with United for pre-season in a bid to get himself fit. Jansen, who started his career at Brunton Park, made his name as a talented youngster in Carlisle before moving on to Crystal Palace as a 20-year-old for a £1 million transfer fee.
He then moved to Blackburn, playing 110 games in his 7 year stay, but an horrendous accident curtailed what was a blossoming international and domestic career.
Jansen finished last season at Bolton, but is now with the Cumbrians at his own request.
Neil McDonald told us: "Matt has asked to train with us as he works on his fitness and sharpness, and we are happy for him to do that. He's enjoying himself, working very hard, so he'll be here with us as he gets himself back up to a decent level."

I'm well chuffed with this. Yes, he's only training with us at the moment, but I can see him starting the season as a Carlisle player, much like Paul Murray did after returning from Beira Mar.

He's always been a class striker, right from when he broke into the Carlisle first team up until his moped accident which kinda put his career on hold. He wasn't quite the same afterwards and often struggled in the Premiership, though I don't really think he got that much of a chance. He'd be a brilliant signing for a League One or Championship side in my opinion, so hopefully, with us being his hometown club we'll have him helping us towards promotion this coming season.

Re: CC League 1 Close Season News & Links

I am on my team "Forest" to get out of this division. I got 7/1 e/w 10 days ago, and strangely bookies had Leeds as faves for the division.

If you have a big bank, Leeds are a good lay on betfair. They currently have a thin squad which also incorporates youth players.

As Forest fans like to forget, Yeovil gave as a mauling in the play off 2nd leg last season. Over the summer though, we have got rid of some deadwood, and made some good signings:

In have come:

Neil Lennon: Great experience/leadership skills.

Cohen & Davies nabbed from Yeovil for around a million. One of them nearly joined as back in January, and if he had Forest would probly have escaped last season.

Matthew Lockwood: 300k signing from Leyton Orient. Plays left full back and weighs in with his share of goals!

be confirmed Monday:

Wilson 300k defender from Preston

will be signed shortly

" a right sided player": Didier Agathe was on trial at the City Ground, but he went AWOL.

"a striker"

Then that's our lot. Anything around 6/1 for the title is still decent value, as I can only see the price shortening. (hopefully anyway!)

Re: CC League 1 Close Season News & Links

Unfortunately tricky, Forest are one of those teams that the smaller teams are always looking to beat.

I'm not convinced about Calderwood after watching this division last year, are you?

As you point out Leeds are a ridiculous price and to be fair, I feel your boys are priced more on the size of the club, potential etc than the teams form which was pretty poor over the last few months of the season.

You not got boatloads of strikers anyway? Tyson, Agogo to name but two. Oh and Grant Holt - but isn't he a bit unsettled?

Like every season, in my opinion the favourites are far too tight and the only way to go is with those teams who are over the 10-1 mark. (what price were scunny at the start of last season?)

Your 7-1 e/w is a good bet, how did you manage that when your boys are 6-1 for the title?

What I will say is that I won a few quid backing Bristol City e/w last year - who were an unattractive price, but in my view apart from fans of Forest like yourself who obviously keep an eye on the comings and goings, anyone else is simply looking at the 'bigger teams' in the division and taking a punt.

As you rightly point out, why on earth would Leeds be such a stupid price otherwise?

Re: CC League 1 Close Season News & Links

Neil Lennon has to be a good signing, could be playermanager before long if they dont start well though

Walsall have signed Tommy Mooney who appears to be exciting the fans in their neck of the woods. I dont think they'll be doing much other thansitting in mid table but I think hes a good signing & I rate Dicky Dosh enough to think they wont be in danger

Re: CC League 1 Close Season News & Links

The 7/1 e/w (1/4 odds top 3) was at betfred. I can see with the odds Komp has put up using oddschecker, that the Forest price is still falling, There is also speculation that Andy Cole might be joining Forest. Not sure about the suggested 1 million fee, and his high wages mind; but I guess it could work for a year or two!

Doncaster and Swansea might be two alternatives; and there is usually one club promoted from league 2, who win or come close to winning this league.

I will post more of a preview, and my ante post bets nearer the time.

Re: CC League 1 Close Season News & Links

Does anyone have any thought's on Luton's chances? 20/1 Skybet go. Weren't they a bit unlucky last year and on their day they could beat anyone? Look like ok signings there too to me. Aye i quite like the sound of Luton from what i know.
