Re: The Premiership 2007/08 ante-post
Quote:
Tottenham's new £16.5million striker Darren Bent is 2/1 with bet365 to outscore Barcelona's £16million man Thierry Henry next season in their respective leagues.
bet365 spokesman Steve Freeth said: "It's hard to believe that Darren Bent went for more than Thierry Henry, but we still fancy the cheaper option to get more goals next season."
And Hills aren't overly impressed with the Bent signing either as he's not even favourite with them to end the season as the club's top scorer in the Premiership.
They quote him at 12/5 second best behind Dimitar Berbatov, the 13/8 market leader.
Meanwhile Bent is 20/1 to end the campaign with the Premiership's Golden Boot while Spurs are 9/4 chances to make the top four in the table.
And Sky Bet have noted that on the opening day of the 2005/06 Premiership season, Bent scored two goals on his debut for Charlton playing at Sunderland and make it 4/1 for him to repeat the trick on his Spurs bow at the Stadium of Light.
And with the news that Bent is joining Tottenham, doubts are immediately surfacing about the future of fellow striker Jermain Defoe and VC Bet make him odds-on to move on over the summer.
Last season saw Defoe start just 20 league games and, coupled with Berbatov being one of the stars of the campaign in his debut season with the club and skipper Robbie Keane having signed a contract extension, Defoe looks sure to move even further down the pecking order.
VC's football odds compiler Nick Blezard said: "The arrival of Bent is definitely a step in the right direction for Spurs. With the experience of Keane, the continued form of Berbatov and the ability of Bent to get in behind the opposition Spurs will definitely be a force to reckon with next year.
"But if Defoe wants first team football I don't believe he'll get it at Spurs. The rumours of a move for him from other clubs are definitely going to increase over the next week, so much so that we're going 13/8 about Defoe being there next season and odds-on at 4/9 that he won't."
VC Bet - Who Will Defoe sign for this summer? West Ham 3/1, Aston Villa 9/2, Manchester City 9/2, Portsmouth 5/1, Newcastle 11/2, Arsenal 8/1, Sunderland 12/1 (Bets void if he stays, others on request)

Re: The Premiership 2007/08 ante-post
Anelka at 33/1 for top goal scorer looks a good bet if he ends up at a half decent side like Arsenal or City (ahemm).
No more Henry or Nistleroy, the Prem is lacking strikers and he's as good as any in there at the moment.

Re: The Premiership 2007/08 ante-post
I'm not so sure AFU as Tevez will probably play behind Rooney, Fergie will have bought him to play through balls to Rooney as he does play a lot deeper and United seem to be settling on just playing one up front with everybody from midfield onwards having the ability to score.
On that basis Rooney should be thereabouts come the end of the season but i just cannot see him being the Prem top scorer.

Re: The Premiership 2007/08 ante-post
Nah i dont think its value AFU. Throughout his career so far he has never been a good goalscorer and i dont see anything changing this season.
I agree with Anelka for sure. EPL is beginning to lack quality strikers.
Not so long ago there was Shearer, Fowler, Ruud, Henry.

Re: The Premiership 2007/08 ante-post
I've been reading up on our new man ANDRIY VORONIN.
Aparently he's very poor according to all those who watch the German league, he's toothless, couldn't hit a barn door and his alround play is pretty shite. His record reads 21 goals in 71 games in his time at leverkusen
I've a small feeling he'll be a hit for us though and although on paper he looks like our 4th striker and probably wont get to many games i couldn't resist a fiver e.w @ 100/1 for top scorer, 1/4 odds first four places.

Re: The Premiership 2007/08 ante-post
aye but as a few prem teams will be a lot stronger this yr i have a feeling the usual mid table teams will lose a few more points than usual.
Cheeky bastards have put Man City on par with Sunderland which could be a big mistake because if Sven buys well then I'd expect us to easily to reach the 50 point mark which would leave us in with a good chance on the handicap, I'd be shocked if Sunderland got anywhere near 50 pts.
Pompey could do well given a 35 point start as Harry seems to be buying experience to try and improve on last yrs excellent season for them.
As for the rest West Ham maybe but after last yrs escapade given the talent they possessed i'd rather leave well alone.
I'd have fancied Man U again as fergie seems to have bought well this yr, but he seems to be buying players for cover for players where they allready possess class, they are needed as the likes of Scholes and Giggs are getting no younger but imo he should be concentrating on his defence as thats where they came unstuck last yr , even more so as Heinze looks to be on his way out, Neville also is getting no younger, Brown has shown he doesnt have what it takes just like O'shea after promising starts to their careers , so any knocks to Ferdinhand or Vidic like last yr will leave United in a bit of a quagmire again.
I don't even think Man U have any decent back up for Van de sar as i wouldent put any complete trust in Foster on the big stage as he is untested allthough he could prove me wrong.
They do look more than capable of scoring from most positions midfield onwards though and have increased this strength preseason so i'd expect them to be the Prems top goalscorers again especially if they also capture Tevez which is looking more than likely.

Re: The Premiership 2007/08 ante-post
I've just backed Jose Mourinho for the first manager to leave his post, 20/1 @ Coral.
There a few others who i'd say are more likely but the fact he doesn't get on so well with Abramovich and for a poorish start (they are away at Anfield and O.T before the 3rd week in September) and things could deteriate rapidly. I wouldn't be suprised to see Abramo' go in for Cappello at some point.
