Re: Welsh Premier League 17th/18th/19th August
Friday
Cefn v T.N.S.
Last season Cefn finished in 13th position with 28 points.
TNS were champions with 76 points.
In the past 5 seasons TNS have won every meeting.
Last season it was 3-2 at Cefn and 3-1 at home the previous season it was 4-1 and 6-0.
Pre season has been busy again with TNS playing in the first round qualifying of the Champions League
1st leg TNS v FK Ventspils (Latvia) 3 - 2
2nd Leg FK Ventspils (Latvia) v TNS 2 - 1 ...Ventspils win on away goals.
Pre season TNS have played against higher standard opposition and have performed decently
Cefn have had a mixed pre season against poor opposition.
TNS have added to their strong squad with players from the English non-league.
Cefn have new management and have strengthened their squads from the WPL clubs.
TNS do have a few injuries going into this game but they have a strong squad.
These players will be missing for TNS - Baker, Holmes, King, Davies , and strikers Toner and Morgan.
I expect TNS to win this one but those odds 1.33 are very low at this early stage of the season.
One bet worth considering is TNS/TNS h.t./f.t.@1.75

Re: Welsh Premier League 17th/18th/19th August
A decent preview from today's Western Mail ...I've dragged myself from that "diomed thread"
Quote:
Aug 17 2007
by Our Correspondent, Western Mail
Aberystwyth
BIG club with an excellent fan base and if they challenged at the top, crowds would be 600-plus.
Brian Coyne has seen it all, having been involved in the league since its inception and his know- how is vital.
Christian Edwards and Stuart Roberts bring plenty of experience to a strong squad, with midfield duo Barry Morgan and Luke Sherbon both key players.
The fitness of Glyndwr Hughes, who has been one of the league’s better players for a decade, will be vital.
Airbus UK Broughton
BIG news for the Wingmakers is a name-change, with the name of their hometown now incorporated.
Ex-Wrexham midfielder Gareth Owen did a great job last season in keeping his team in the Premier.
Airbus is a tough place to go to and home form could prove vital if they are to stay up again.
Owen needs to be an ever-present if at all possible and the signing of Phil Molyne from Rhyl looks very positive.
Bangor City
NEVILLE POWELL, the league’s longest serving manager, has left Connah’s Quay to join the club he won trophies with as a player. This is a big boost for the Citizens after losing the services of Steve Bleasdale.
Powell has signed Tommy Mutton, Les Davies, Mark Linabest and goalkeeper Paul Smith, all good signings for one of Welsh football’s sleeping giants.
Les Davies (The Truck, as he is affectionately known) is a handful for any defence.
Caernarfon Town
THE Canaries came back from the dead last season with a remarkable 3-0 away win at then champions- elect TNS, which started a spirited run to safety.
Ex-Barry Town centre-back Steve O’Shaughnessy saved them from the trap door last season and will look to former Liverpool player Layton Maxwell and the exciting Paul Addo, who is surely destined for the football league, to get the goals to try and reach mid-table security.
Mike Barton takes over the reigns from Mickey Evans, who finished his long career at the helm with last season’s League Cup.
Barton will be assisted by ex-European golden boot-winner Dave Taylor and will need his help, as five of last season’s experienced squad have moved on.
Justin Wickham, recently signed from Newtown, is a decent signing at this level.
Carmarthen Town
LAST season’s Welsh Cup winners have seen a few changes since lifting the trophy and ex-Haverfordwest manager Deryn Brace replaces myself at the helm.
Mark Aizlewood is still at Richmond Park and will assist Brace who has already brought in Tim Hicks, Richie Adams and Nicky Palmer, who all played under him at the Bluebirds.
Kaid Mohammed has joined Swindon and Mark Dodds has joined Blue Square South club Newport County. Both were instrumental in bringing European football to Richmond Park over the past few seasons, but there is enough talent with the Old Gold for them to compete for silverware again.
Connah's Quay Nomads
ANOTHER club involved in the manager merry-go-round this summer, as Jim Hackett takes over from Neville Powell.
The Westenders had a decent season last year and fifth was a very respectable finish in the league.
But the loss of Powell and key players Tommy Mutton and Mark Limbert could mean leaner times ahead, unless the talented Adam Dickinson can produce the form that kept FC Twente of Holland watching him very closely last season.
Haverfordwest County
THE Bluebirds will have ex-Cardiff City defender Derek Brazil in charge and his experience from his debut season last year should stand him in good stead.
Lee Kendall and Terry Evans have both seen football league action and they will be a great help to Brazil, who has a relatively young squad.
A new strike partnership of Jack Christopher and Ian Jones, who has joined from Afan Lido, could be a handful if supplied by the ace wingers at the club, Lee Hudgell and Welsh boxing champion Chris O’Sullivan.
Llanelli
THE league’s second full-time squad, managed by former Welsh international Peter Nicolas, finished well last season after having a bad run just after Christmas.
It’s fair to say that if Nico can get his squad playing well from the start, they will be challenging for honours.
The prolific Rhys Griffiths will start odds-on favourite for the golden boot, which he has won comfortably for the past two seasons.
Jacob Mignorance, who has graced the Welsh Premier for the past few seasons, has returned to play in Spain and his boots must be filled by a player of class.
Llangefni Town
THE new boys from Anglesey won last season’s Cymru Alliance and will be managed by former Caernarfon manager Adie Jones, who has plenty of WPL experience.
The club have made a great effort in building a new stand in order to comply with Welsh Premier rules and Jones has gathered together a squad of players who could well survive in their first season in the top flight.
Neath Athletic
WON the Welsh League with a record points haul last season and have a manager and group of players who have been together for a few seasons.
Andrew Dyer, brother of ex-goal ace Simon, has done well and has been backed up by a hard-working committee who will see Welsh Premier action at Llandarcy Park for the first time. All home games will be vital.
Newi Cefn Druids
WILL open the season at home to champions TNS this evening.
Ex-Wrexham pair Lee Jones and Wayne Phillips will manage a squad packed with experience.
Tim Edwards the ex-Rhyl captain and Ricky Evans, brother of Welsh international Steve, could make the Druids a hard team to beat and mid-table comfort must be a strong possibility this time around.
Newtown
EX-BARRY and Merthyr winger Darren Ryan has been busy in the transfer market and is keen not to get close to the wrong end of the table this season.
Ryan stabilised Newtown after a rocky ride last year and his side brought in record league goal-scorer Marc Lloyd Williams, who is determined to show fans that he can still score goals at this level, therefore helping Ryan’s team into the top half of the table.
Port Talbot
THE Steelmen are now threatening to challenge for honours and have improved as a club dramatically, on and off the park.
Tony Pennock’s appointment to fill Wayne Davies’ shoes was a shrewd move by Andrew Edwards and Pens will look to keep the club going forward. The return of Gareth Phillips from Merthyr is good news for the fans and watch out for powerful centre-forward Martin Rose, who could threaten the 20-goal barrier.
Porthmadog
CLAYTON BLACKMORE takes over the reigns from Welsh football’s new technical director, Osian Roberts.
Port are a tight-knit group of players who have established themselves over the past few years.
Goalkeeper Richard Harvey is one of the league’s better keepers and Jason Sadler and Carl Owen are a decent front line, if Blackmore opts for a 4-4-2 formation.
Rhyl
WITHOUT a doubt one of the league’s strongest contenders.
John Hulse has won the title before and thinks this is his strongest squad since landing the crown in 2003-04.
The fixture secretary has given the Lilywhites the toughest of starts as they play Carmarthen, Bangor and Llanelli in the first week.
Last season’s average crowd of 500 could be surpassed if they start well and Hulse keeps close tabs on his long time friend McKenna at TNS.
Will be there or thereabouts at the finish.
The New Saints
THE reigning champions TNS were playing football of a standard not seen since Barry Town’s halcyon days towards the end of last season.
If they can reproduce that form again, they will be tough to stop.
McKenna’s brand of playing from the back is welcomed in footballing quarters but some of the league’s grounds are not prepared for total football. So it will be a case of mixing and matching his systems to get the best from his squad.
When he picks his best back four, plus captain Doherty in goal, they are a Scrooge-like and this is vital to all winning teams.
Welshpool Town
TOMI MORGAN has come close over the last two seasons to a first coveted European spot for Welshpool, and a few close-season signings may give him that little bit of extra quality he needs to finally achieve his goal.
Chris Venables is a great signing from Caersws, and his strikeforce are usually full of goals Calvin Davies, Steve Rogers and Aden Shannon scored 37 league goals between them last season and a repeat could see the Lilywhites land some silverware.

I see 2.53 for No Goal at Globet for the game between Druids and TNS - maybe a must bet with low stakes and will hope the home team not to score.

Re: Welsh Premier League 17th/18th/19th August
First week so small stakes 1pts
Llangefni Town [prom] v Connah's Quay Nomads [5th]
Llangefni one of the newly promoted sides could pull off a surprise.
Llangefni ground is not an easy place to win. They will be hoping to get off to a good start. They have signed a few players with WPL experience ,at least 3 from my club Porthmadog.
Connah's Quay have had a complete reshuffle in management and have lost a few of their better players to Bangor.
Last season was an exceptional one for C.Q. but I cannot see them having anything similar this season.
A home win for the newly promoted side.
Newtown [16th] v Bangor City [9th]
Newtown were very poor last season .They only avoided relegation because Cwmbran were even worse. Newtown had a poor home record with only two home wins. They have lost quite a few players , but have gained the experienced striker Lloyd Williams from Bangor and defender Jellicoe from Connah's Quay.
Bangor have a new manager Neville Powell from Connah's Quay who brought many of his beeter player with him to Bangor . Bangor fans are very upbeat about this season and they have had a good pre-season .
An away win for me.
Llangefni @3.4 with bluesq 1/10 stake
Bangor @2.2 with Coral 1/10 stake

TNS are a good defensive side Flame , so that bet looks decent ,but Cefn have scored in recent matches. I do not have an account with globet but i've never considered that bet. Not usually the ideal bet for the WPL , this fixture has been high scoring in the past.

Think I was a bit lucky with my bet.
I've made No Goal bets last year ot most of the TNS games - they was good in defence and Globet aways gave odds over 2.00 for their No Goals.
The same situation was in Norther Ireland with the favourites.
If we have the same situation this year I think Welsh and Northern Irish league could bring us good money.
GL to all!

well done flame
that's sounds a good system , TNS rarely conceeded in the league last season , they leaked more in the cup and the last month of the season.
Welsh Premier League
Cefn Druids 1-0 TNS
Cefn also missed an early penalty.
An upset to start the WPL , I do not like betting on Friday evening matches in this league [ too many upsets but I would never have predicted that result ,glad I avoided it ], Cefn will be playing a lot of their home matches on Friday evening.
