Re: Scottish Premier League: 1/2nd Sept

Falkirk to get something at Dundee Utd? Maybe just a hammering. A few goals poss?

Kilmarnock v Aberdeen games are always hard fought affairs. i wouldnt like to call. I used to always take the over 2.5 goals in this one but its let me down well at least for a season so i might bin that automated betting pattern.

Rangers/Celltic i wouldnt like to say. Anything in that old thing of the old firm being beat at ht and then winning at ft? That used to be a popular event and would happen often.

Re: Scottish Premier League: 1/2nd Sept

Dundee Utd have only conceded 2 goals in their first 4 games, both coming at Killie when they had been reduced to 10 men. Kept a blank sheet for 60 mins v Aberdeen with 10 men, held Hibs to a 0-0, won 2-0 up at a poorish ICT.

Will be interesting to see if Falkirk can break their defence. Early yet but Levein looks to have Dundee Utd on the up.

ICT appear pishy so far but there is something about Hibs at the moment that doesn't make me want to trust them, especially at those prices. Be intresting to see if Brewster can repeat the miracle he had first time around at ICT. The most impressive aspect of his time there was their away record, think it was something like 1 defeat in 17 aways and that was at Celtic. Maybe too early for him to be working the magic already but I don't think I will be touching this one.

I am always hesitant to take handicaps bigger than -1.5 but I am on Rangers -2 at 1.893 with Pinnacle. Gretna have bucked up their ideas a little in the last couple of weeks but Rangers are on the up and up and have a strongish squad now (with possibly another 1 or 2 additions before Saturday - Stefanovic, Naismith possibly, now the CL football is confirmed).

Boyd, Darcheville and Cousin could do some damage to Gretna here, I can't see Rangers only winning by a single goal and goals are coming from all sides (witness the 7-2 win v St Mirren) so the -2 handicap is worth the risk as the minimum I expect from Rangers is a 2 goal margin of victory.

Not sure about Killie v Aberdeen, will give it some more thought later but watch out to see if Naismith remains at Killie or not, could have a bearing on this game.

Celtic have started to turn on some decent performances in recent weeks and I can't see anything other than a victory at St Mirren. This is another case of considering the AH but I am more reluctant to take on handicaps away from home than I would be at home. Will have a think about it and wait to see how Celtic are after tonights CL game.

Re: Scottish Premier League: 1/2nd Sept

Thoughts on the Friday games...

Good record for Falkirk in this fixture, and while I'd agree that United are playing well 3/1+ does look a bit too generous on the away side - train usually has his sides chances well calculated too(altho the 6/4 may be pushing it a tad ).

Couldn't touch Hibs at that price, infact would consider a lay. As bad as ICT have been, the return of Brewster(against one of his old clubs too) could give the team the little boost in confidence it needs, and they can get back to protecting some of the fine away records they can boast.

Plus, it gives them the option of a Brewster/Niculae partnership up front...Niculae really does look the real deal...never mind losing Dargo with this fella up front. Against a weak Hibs back line they could have some joy, it just depends how many the leaky ICT defence gives up. Goals and a lay of Hibs.

It's been 3 seasons and I'm still nowhere nearer working out Killie. Players like Nish/Wales etc should have no place in the SPL and Killie should be down the other end of the league, but they keep on doing the business. I'll keep away.

That -2 could be a tempter crowie - the gap between old firm and the other clubs looks so much wider this season that this one should be a stroll for Smith's men.

More later on.

Re: Scottish Premier League: 1/2nd Sept

Another week, another SPL thread.

Ok, will only do Saturdays games just now due to time constraints.

Dundee Utd vs Falkirk

Form (recent L-R oldest): DuU - WDLW ; Fal - LLLW

Home/Away Form: DuU - 1-1-0 (F 1, A 0) ; Fal - 1-0-1 (F 6, A 7)

H2H(Last 6 games) F 2-0 D, D 1-5 F, F 5-1 D, D 1-2 F, D 0-2 F, F 1-0 D

Interesting trends/points to note

* 3/3 OVERS/UNDERS - 2/1 at Dundee Utd.
* Falkirk have won all of the last 6 matches between the two teams.

Players signed before transfer window closure

Dundee Utd: Youngster Jordan Robertson (loan; Sheff Utd) - played well on debut in CIS cup and scored. Should lead the attack on Saturday due to Utds injury probs up front.

Falkirk: None as yet

Team news; BBC SPORT | Football | Scottish Premier | Dundee Utd v Falkirk

Having watched the highlights, Dundee Utd were pretty lucky to take the lead at ICT last week, getting the first goal in the 2nd half after a first half of sustained ICT pressure, and 2 penalties, one of which gained from defender Wilkie playing up front and flicking the ball on to his advancing team-mate. Good record at home, but struggling to score. They will have to work hard to maintain their clean sheet at Tannadice looking at Falkirks good scoring trait on their travels and their superb record in this fixture over the years. Wilkie should be back in defence alongside Dods with the new lad up front. Robson has recovered from a minor knock and should be fine for tomorrow which is a boost for them. Szamotulski in goals has been one of Utds standout players so far this season and a main reason why they haven't conceded at home yet. Falkirk should provide a big test against this though.

Falkirk 1 win and 1 loss away from home this season. Their poor recent form doesn't really tell the whole story as 2 losses were to the Old Firm and the previous one was a very unlucky defeat via an 89th min goal from Mehmet of St Mirren, who had a 2-1-0 record away to Falkirk in their last 3 games there. They have been playing extremely good football in all that time, Arnau Riera has been a good part of that and will be missed tomorrow. Other than that Falkirk appear to be at full strength. Superb record of 6 wins in 6 games over the years and if the fact that St Mirren continued their good trend at Falkirk holds, Falkirk may be a superb value bet at 3/1 or thereabouts with a trend of their own. Leveins team will be well organised and difficult to break down however, something that Latapy may hold the key to if he plays to a high standard.

Betting wise, I do like a good trend , possibly something to do with the differing styles of teams involved in games that show them, but I do fancy Falkirk to continue theirs and get back to winning ways at Utd, although it won't be easy. 3/1-ish is too hard to pass on given the recent results in this game. Reckon Higdon could play a huge part in this for Falkirk, with Barry Robson as ever the key player for Utd.

Prediction: I'll go for a tight Falkirk win, possibly a 0-1 or 1-2.
Other bets?: Robson To Score is always good value, Higdon too may be worth a punt.

Hibs vs ICT

Form (recent L-R oldest): Hibs - DDWW ; ICT - LLLL

Home/Away Form: Hibs - 1-1-0 (F 7, A 5) ; ICT - 0-0-2 (F 2, A 4)

H2H(Last 6 games) I 3-0 H, H 2-0 I, I 0-0 H, H 0-2 I, I 2-0 H, H 1-2 I

Interesting trends/points to note

* New manager Brewster takes charge in his 2nd spell at ICT. Also plays up front, scoring 2 goals against Hibs for Aberdeen last week.
* ICT record is 2-1-0 at Hibs (will mention this later).

Players signed before transfer window closure

Hibs: Antoine-Curier (F). Signed from Haugesund in Norway. No idea what he is like.

ICT: Malkowski (GK) on loan from Hibs. Has a reputation for making mistakes tbh, may be used as cover for no.1 Fraser only. Manager Brewster still plays up front and has been in good scoring form in his last few games. Niculae (F) was signed a wee while ago but could be a v.good signing for them. Proctor has signed from Dundee Utd, a player who played under Brewster at ICT 1st time round, signed for him when he moved to Utd and has now gone back to ICT with the new manager. A defensive player Brewster clearly trusts.

Team news: BBC SPORT | Football | Scottish Premier | Hibernian v Inverness CT

Hibs seemingly continuing where they left off last season, playing good passing football but shooting themselves in the foot with defending. After a good start GK Ma-Kalambay succumbed to the Hibs keeping curse and sold 2 unbelievably easy goals to Aberdeen last weekend, one of which to Brewster coincidentally. If they can keep ICT out and improve their defensive record they should win tomorrow given a far superior looking squad, but Brewster will look to organise ICT as he did before to gain a wonderful ICT record in Edinburgh, so agree with Beanie that a Hibs lay may be a decent wager this weekend. Defenders Jones, Hogg and Murphy being fit will help their cause as will Ma-Kalambay regaining his confidence.

ICT have a great looking record in previous matches at Hibs, but beaten 2-0 last time out and their current 4 loss run shows they aren't the team they used to be. Brewster will look to get that sorted however and regain the tight, organised unit he had from his 1st spell at the club. ICT played well last week in the first half (mentioned above in the Utd match), but seemed to lose faith after they went one goal down. Prior to that though, they seemed to pass well and create good chances. Hastings, Paatelainen and Munro are out and would probably have been 1st team players, so possibly a blow there for ICT.

Prediction: I think I agree with Beanies thoughts on a Hibs lay as I could see ICT gaining a point from this match. A lay or a draw bet for me, although Hibs could run over them if they don't organise themselves well enough.
Other bets?: No interest in Overs/Unders. Brewster to score at Hibs for the 2nd week running? . Nothing else really of note for me here.

Kilmarnock vs Aberdeen

Form (recent L-R oldest): Kil - LWWD ; Aber - DLDL

Home/Away Form: Kil - 1-0-1 (F 3, A 3) ; Aber - 0-1-1 (F 3, A 4)

H2H(Last 6 games) A 3-0 K, K 1-2 A, A 3-1 K, K 1-0 A, A 0-0 K, A 2-2 K

Interesting trends/points to note

* Aberdeen are 3 wins of 3 in the last 3 games at both stadia.

Players signed before transfer window closure

Killie: Ryan Jarvis (21 - Norwich striker). Again, don't know anything about this lad. Seems highly rated by respected Scottish coach Jim Duffy, now working at Norwich.

Aber: Jonathan Smith 19 (forward released by Wigan), and Sone Aluko 18, (on loan from Birmingham) who made his 1st team debut against Hereford midweek and is an England youth International.

Team news: BBC SPORT | Football | Scottish Premier | Kilmarnock v Aberdeen

Seems to be a story of injuries for Kilmarnock. Fernandez (F), O'Leary (D - very promising youngster), Locke (D) and Wales (F) are all rated doubtful for this game, with Fowler (M), Invincible (M), Hay, Bryson (D) and Skora (M) are all definitely out. Kilmarnock played well against Rangers last weekend with some nice passing play, which eventually netted them a well-worked counter attacking goal from a Rangers corner. Naismith was integral in the team last week and (as I write this) doesn't appear to be going to Rangers at the end of the transfer window, so should play tomorrow (AS I WROTE THIS, BBC REPORTING THAT KILLIE HAVE ACCEPTED A RANGERS BID FOR NAISMITH). Bit of an average record at home for Killie so far this year and are conceding as much as they score, something which may allow Aberdeen to get something tomorrow. Of the previous players rated doubtful, Invincible, O'Leary and Locke all played vs Rangers last week, with Invincible getting the goal, and would be a sore loss if they prove to be unfit. Bryson and Skora missing are probably 2 more good players that may affect Killie tomorrow also.

Similar story with Aberdeen and injuries. Mair (D), Byrne (D) and Visscher (M) are all out and considered 1st teamers iirc, Severin (M), Clark and Diamond (D) are rated doubtful and would be considered main players as well. Aberdeen getting a bit of good luck last week in their game against Hibs, but they have lost Brewster up front and replaced him with two seemingly untested youngsters, so will be interesting to see how Calderwood and his team cope with that situation. They will be buoyed by the fact that they have won this fixture 3 times out of the last 3 (at both stadia) and will look to continue that good form.

Don't really fancy a bet on this game tbh. Agree again with Beanie on Killie, they are a difficult team to predict games for. One minute they can be wonderful and the next they can lose when not expected to. Puts enough doubt in my mind to stay away.

Prediction: Too hard to choose on this game. No Bet.
Other Bets?: Don't fancy Overs/Unders in this one either, not much else looks value either.

Rangers vs Gretna

Form (recent L-R oldest): Ran - WWWW ; Gret - LDLL

Home/Away Form: Ran - 2-0-0 (F 9, A 2) ; Gretna - 0-1-1 (F 3, A 5)

H2H(Last 6 games) NO PREVIOUS MEETINGS

Interesting trends/points to note

* None to note, really due to previous lack of meetings.

Players signed before transfer window closure

Ran: Amdy Faye (on loan from Charlton for the season). Will probably add depth to the midfield to cope with Rangers CL commitments and allow a bit of squad rotation.

Gretna: Horwood (21 y.o D, from Sheff Utd.) and Buscher (F) may make their debuts.

Team news: BBC SPORT | Football | Scottish Premier | Rangers v Gretna

Smith (D), Buffel (M) and Ehiogu (D) are out but aren't considered first team so otherwise a full squad for Rangers. Can't really say anything other than what everyone will know anyway. Rangers playing well, conceded only 2 goals all season, 4 wins of 4 in the league, 4 games undefeated in Europe (and a bastard of a CL group draw ) and quite frankly should take care of Gretna without much worries, even though they were in Belgrade midweek. Agree with Crowie that -2 should be a steal of a bet as Rangers should put at least 2 past Gretna.

Gretna missing a couple of good players in Grady (F), McGuffie (M) and Canning. They may be starting to get a foothold in the SPL now, played well at "home" to Motherwell last week and unlucky to lose 2-1. Add to that some decent starts in games against Falkirk, Hibs and the draw against Hearts, so may only be a matter of time before they pick up their first win. Should be good odds too if you can time it perfectly. Can't say much else tbh. They shouldn't be a threat to Rangers at home.

Prediction: Rangers win all the way
Other bets?: Rangers HT/FT may be a decent shout if above evens. Crowies -2 AH bet looks to have a lot of value in it, maybe -3 if you feel lucky.

Will post the other games the day before they happen.

gl.

Re: Scottish Premier League: 1/2nd Sept

no much value in the spl this week, celtic, rangers, hibs, certaintys, but three very hard games to call.despite losing naismith killie do well in adveristy so i think they might just sneak it ,falkirk have a great recent record at tannadice and i think they may get a draw, stephen hughes is a great signing fr motherwell and might be enough for them to win a tight game.

Re: Scottish Premier League: 1/2nd Sept

Bet365 Single

Kilmarnock0.0,-0.5 @2.075, 8/10

Rangers Over 3.5 @2.00, 6/10

Rangers 3-0@7.00, 1/10

Aberdeen finished 3rd last season, but remain without a win after four matches this season (2 draws and 2 defeats). The club from the North-East of Scotland has scored in all but one games but their defensive problems is the main reason why they have dropped so many points already. Kilmarnock on the other hand seems to be more competitive. They have already collected 7 points, having drawn 0-0 at Celtic and losing narrowly (1-2) by Rangers.
Aberdeen won the last three meetings between the two sides, however Kilmarnock looks in a better condition

Rangers have started the season very well having a 100% winning record, after the first four league matches. The Glasgow side has the best attack, 14 goals so far, and the second best defence, with 3 goals against. Gretna on the other hand is last from the bottom with just 1 point so far. Rangers are without a doubt the big favourite to win this match, as they are much stronger, more experienced and in better form.

Surprising post this for me trainbairn. Your estimation of Falkirk's odds is generally pretty fair but I don't think 6/4 is accurate though 3/1 does look on the big side. Comments about United having the worst defenders in the SPL are strange too given their goals against figure so far.

I don't fancy Falkirk here, though am not overly confident that it will be a home win. If pushed though, I would take United for the points. They look much more solid than last season.

Think the Old Firm will win with goals to spare and Crowie's bet on Rangers at 1.89 -2 looks very good to me.

Re: Scottish Premier League: 1/2nd Sept

Falkirk not up to much it seems after todays game, possibly worthy of opposing a little longer depending on opposition. Robson did manage to score which was a handy 10/1 shot .

Hibs managing to get the win, although a little tighter than they would have imagined, almost a good lay there for Beanie .

Killie-Aberdeen as unpredictable as ever although the Dons apparently defended well and the loss of Naismith no doubt was a blow to Killie.

Rangers-Gretna wasn't the best of games. Gers lucky to go in 1-0 at HT as they played poorly, but managed to get the goals to clear the very good value bet of -2 goals (got 11/10 myself at the Ibroxs in-stadium bookies).

Onto tomorrows game;

St Mirren vs Celtic

Form (recent L-R oldest): StM - WWLL ; Cel - WWWD

Home/Away Form: StM - 1-0-1 (F 2, A 2) ; Cel - 2-0-0 (F 7, A 2)

H2H(Last 6 games) C 5-1 S, S 1-3 C, C 2-0 S (other 3 pre 2001)

Interesting trends/points to note

* Celtic 3 wins out of last 3 games.
* 2/1 Overs/Unders - 1 out of 1 Overs at St Mirren.

Players signed before transfer window closure

St Mirren: Chris Birchall - very good midfielder, made 3 appearances for Trinidad and Tobago at the 2006 World Cup. Should be a starting player easily.

Cel: Only a 16 y.o Italian defender added to Brown, Donati etc, but will only be one for the future. No one else in.

Team news: BBC SPORT | Football | Scottish Premier | St Mirren v Celtic (Sun)

I've been impressed with the level of some of St Mirrens signings this season tbh. Haining (D), Mason (M), Dargo (F) to name just 3, but the latest one now has International caps, including 3 at the WC in 2006. Birchall (otherwise known as the white bloke playing for T & T) should find himself a regular starter and is a v.good player. Anyway, St Mirren in good form in the league with a late 0-1 victory away to Falkirk last week. They will need to bounce back from a v.poor 0-1 defeat in the CIS cup to 3rd division leaders East Fife and also up their average 1-0-1 form at home. Looking a little shot-shy at Love Street, scoring and conceding one a game there. Dargo (F), Malone (D), Molloy (M) and Maxwell (D) are all out and may affect them negatively.

Celtic surprisingly got rid of Kenny Miller before the transfer window shut (think he was avg. 3 goals in about 3 games) and didn't bring anyone in to cover. Never covered any other positions tbh, so Strachan must be happy with his lot, although I still think he's a little weaker at the back than he could be, but I dont get paid for being a manager . Celtic won 1-3 last time out here (went 0-1 up, then 1-1 before winning iirc) and have a good recent record at Love St. 2 wins from 2 away games and scoring plenty on their travels, although Miller has some of those, so may be more pressure on guys like JVoH, McDonald, Zurawski and Killen to keep this up. Celtic coming off 120 mins plus penalties against Spartak Moscow in midweek, so may be interesting to see what effect (if any) that may have in the later stages of the game. 4 days between games should be plenty time to recover though imo.

Prediction: Celtic to look for early goals and come away with a victory to keep pressure on Rangers at the top.
Other bets?: Interesting that St Mirren have scored in 2/3 of the games, No - Celtic clean sheet? above evens would be ok, and possible Draw/Celtic HT/FT @ 5.1 as Celtic seem to be performing better in the later stages of games so far this season.

Re: Scottish Premier League: 1/2nd Sept

Not touching the Celtic game tomorrow at the moment but it might be worth keeping an eye on the inrunning markets. As WD says, Celtic are taking a while to get going at the moment, Hearts game aside, and seem to have better 2nd half displays.

Despite the 120 mins on Wednesday I expect them all to be raring to go tomorrow as this is the last game, for some, for a couple of weeks.

Really more looking forward to the international games coming now

Re: Scottish Premier League: 1/2nd Sept

exact sentiments on celtic, they should win it, though but the effects of the midweek clash with spartak could take some spark outta their legs, not to mention celtic has been playing better in the second half this season for some reasons...i guess i'll be having a look when celtic goes to -1 on the handicap market, no goals in the first 20 odd mins should see me get that in
