Re: Scottish Challenge Cup: 4/5th Sept

Challenge Cup gives Swanson his stage

Talented Berwick Rangers midfielder Danny Swanson will be the centre of attention tonight in the Challenge Cup. A number of clubs will be watching the young midfielder against Partick Thistle after he turned down a move to Hamilton last week. The fact Berwick reached agreement with Hamilton for his signature has alerted clubs he would be allowed to move on if a deal was agreed when the window re-opens. Manager John Coughlin said yesterday: "I took a chance with Danny and signed him from his juvenile club when a number of others reckoned he was too wee and not strong enough. But I said then that I could see that he could play. He has come on leaps and bounds." Steve Noble, Robbie Manson and Tommy Lennox miss out at Firhill but ex-St Mirren forward Scott Gemmill comes in from the start. Partick are without Mark Roberts and Simon Donnelly.

Morton include recent signing Michael Gardyne and the returning Jay Shields in their squad for the visit to Peterhead, although Iain Russell, signed for £40,000 from Brechin, is cup-tied. Peterhead have Graeme Sharp doubtful but Martin Bavidge, after his hat-trick against Berwick at the weekend, will be looking to add to his goal tally.

Airdrie manager Kenny Black will not make any changes against Arbroath, who have Chris Hegarty back after suspension but Brian Clark, signed on loan from Dundee, is cup-tied.

Forfar's Paul Lunan and Stephen McNally are both suspended for tonight's match against Ayr after red cards at the weekend. Ayr are missing Martyn Campbell but Jerome Vareille could start.

East Stirling manager Gordon Wylde reported a full-strength squad to meet Queen's Park, who will be without the suspended Alan Trouten.

Montrose keeper Mark Peat is struggling and Stuart McKenzie stands by to face Brechin City, who are without John Ward and Richard Walker. And with the loss of the transferred Iain Russell, both Calum Smith and Chris Geddes will get their chance.

St Johnstone manager Owen Coyle has significant selection problems.
Kevin Rutkiewicz and Goran Stanic have knocks which are set to rule them out.
Martin Hardie is also a doubt because he has been playing with a groin injury for several weeks.
Coyle said: ``We've not been able to play the same team twice running this season but that happens to all clubs from time to time and you just have to cope.''
Loan signing Rocco Quinn is also away with the Scotland U21 side.
Coyle will make at least one change and there could be another involving a call-up for keeper Kevin Cuthbert.
He said: ``Kevin will be very frustrated at the moment because day-in, day-out in training he has been outstanding. We'll have a look at whether to bring him in for the cup tie.''

Same here. I am up to 90% saturday bettor. Rest just for fun. Dont like national team games and breaks they are causing. Often after those, card are mixed again and some time is needed to pick up again who is hot and who aint.

Re: Scottish Challenge Cup: 4/5th Sept

Ayr team shows just two changes from Saturday. In come Barry John Corr (very dodgy keeper but hopefully won't be tested too much) and David Lowing (until recently a first team regular).

3-5-2: Corr, Henderson, Forrest, Robertson; Pettigrew, Hamilton, Dunn, Stevenson, Lowing; Moore, Williams.

In the previous round they beat Alloa 2-0.

There is a big difference between the quality of the two sides. Airdrie is much stronger and should win the match easily or not.

Partick Thistle v Berwick

Partick Thistle welcomes last from the bottom of Division Two, Berwick. This will be Partick’s first match in the Challenge Cup. The Glasgow side is strong at home with their only defeat there being the one against Hamilton last weekend, 0-3. Berwick qualified on penalties in the previous round against Third Division Albion (1-1). Influential defender Alan Archibald, is back in the squad for the home side. The visitors will miss suspended Ian Little while Chris McGroarty is also rated doubtful.

Partick is a much stronger side than Berwick and will win this match.

FT 5-1
FT 3-1
