Re: Johnstone's Paint Trophy: 3/4th Sept

Should this competition be taken seriously? Unless anyone can post any significant team news i'll just have a fun bet on four prices that look a little bigger than expected.

Millwall @ 9/4
Peterborough @ 7/2
Shrewsbury @ 100/30
Chesterfield @ 6/4

4 x 3.00 wins for now

Re: Johnstone's Paint Trophy: 3/4th Sept

...according team news Millwall could be interesting bet Kop.

Quote:
Swansea v Millwall 03/09/07

Ferrie Bodde is out of Swansea's Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash with Millwall through suspension.

The Dutch midfielder begins a three-match ban following his sending-off during Saturday's defeat by Doncaster.

New signing Warren Feeney also misses out due to international commitments. Feeney, a deadline-day loan capture from Cardiff, is on Northern Ireland duty while youngsters Shaun MacDonald and Joe Allen are away with Wales' under-21s.

Two other new recruits, goalkeeper David Knight and Spanish forward Andrea Orlandi, could be in the squad.

Alan Tate is at least a fortnight away from a return with a knee injury while fellow defender Marcos Painter is still out with a foot problem.

The Swans' League One clash with Cheltenham on Friday has been postponed due to international call-ups.

Millwall boss Willie Donachie could hand a full debut to Jay Simpson.

Forward Simpson, 18, was a deadline-day loan signing from Premier League club Arsenal, and he is likely to be included in the starting XI for the southern section first-round clash in south Wales.

Simpson could be joined in attack by Ben May, who did not play in Saturday's 2-1 home defeat by Huddersfield in League One. Gary Alexander and Neil Harris would be the favourites to make way.

Re: Johnstone's Paint Trophy: 3/4th Sept

and from another forum Swansea fan about their line up
Quote:
Knight
Amankwaah Monk O'Leary Austin
Anderson Craney Allen Butler
Duffy Bussi

The Western Mail predicts we will line up as above. New keeper making his debut, Amankwaah is not a first teamer. O'Leary is a midfielder playing centre half, Craney is rubbish, Allen is a 17yo but won MOTM against Reading, Anderson (on loan from Liverpool) is not a first teamer at present but is quality and perhaps should be. Butler is rubbish. Duffy is a first teamer but is yet to score this season, Bussi is a bench man.

So in short, (if the Westren Mail is correct) only 3 players from Saturday keep their spots. Some of the reserves like Allen, Anderson and Bussi are nearly as good as those playing ahead of them though, and I doubt Millwall's reserves will have such quality, but then they might go full strength so I couldn't say 10/11 is any value right now.

Re: Johnstone's Paint Trophy: 3/4th Sept

Cheers for the info Monty, i was getting a little hopeful reading that but then looked on oddschecker and see it's Swansea who's being backed, a few firms have cut their odds and pushed Millwall out, maybe Millwall are bringing the reserves then

Re: Johnstone's Paint Trophy: 3/4th Sept

Swindon v Brentford
Swndon debuting 3 new players:
Town fans will get their first chance to see Paul Sturrock's deadline day triumvirate of Jon-Paul McGovern, Simon Cox and Billy Paynter but Shakes is hopeful he can steal the show.
Sturrocks resting his stars though:
"We want to win, we don't put teams out to lose. We will put a team out that will be competitive and that hopefully will win the game for us. But we are trying to bed down players to understand our system.
"The problem is there have been 11 or 12 players who understand the way I play and I want to widen that to the new boys who can competently understand what we are asking of them.
"I am very comfortable the players I put out Tuesday will try and win the football game though. It is a chance to learn what we are trying to achieve.
"Hopefully now Monday and Tuesday we can work on set-pieces and the players should respond. So instead of just 12 and 13 I am comfortable we should be getting to 17 and 18 players used to our way."
With a Wembley final awaiting the finalists of the JPT, fans will already be dreaming of visiting the home of football' but Sturrock admits there are other factors to consider.
He said: "If anyone was coming here they would have thought it will be a hard long season.
"We have tasted disappointment a couple of years ago but I would like to think people now appreciate we are competitive in this league.
"Wembley is a big incentive but I watched the League Cup tie where Kieron Dyer broke his leg and you have to weigh up those circumstances with that key player.
"We have one hole left in our team that I am not totally happy with. If one of those were to go down we would toil because it is three weeks before deadline."
Brentford rest most first teamers too so no bet for me here

Re: Johnstone's Paint Trophy: 3/4th Sept

Tranmere v Morcombe

Tranmere field their strongest team
Quote:
Nonetheless Ronnie Moore will not be underestimating his League Two opponents tonight and will field as stronger side as possible. Speaking to tranmererovers.co.uk he said:
"It's an opportunity for a League One club to play at Wembley. That should be enough incentive for everyone involved. The competition comes alive in the later stages. Morecambe are on a nice little roll and I don't think they'll make too many changes. They're playing 4-5-1 and making it difficult for teams so we've got to be patient. We want to go as far as we can.
Good enouth to put them on my acca.
Morcombe are flying in the league cup so may not go in hard here
