SPL thread 6-7 October
What's happening to this valuable thread?
I can't say too much as I was AWOL for most of last season but I was lured back by a few weeks ago by cracking quality debate involving Beanie, fasteddy and Crowie. Weegie Dave had become another stalwart. In recent weeks, only Crowie from this group has been around.
It used to be the norm that the ball was set rolling early in the week but now it's Wednesday night and there's no thread up yet, let alone any early comments. We're missing some good early prices. Only good news is the massive number of lurkers are on to plums.

Re: SPL thread 6-7 October
rcgills, thanks for putting the prices up. I didn't mean to sound as though I was complaining about any delay in doing that, more about the lack of activity in the thread these past few weeks.
As you rightly say, I or anybody else could have put the odds up. Those running the forum have more than enough to do.

Re: SPL thread 6-7 October
Aye I'm galavanting for the next month or so...New Zealand at the mo. That's not really that much of an obstacle as Im still online most days, it's more just having the finger off the pulse in terms of news and highlights.
With my spare 5 mins today, some very brief starting thoughts(very very brief, as in 6 minutes I have to pay an extra dollar )
Plenty draws between United and Motherwell, does indeed look a tight one. Hearts tough to back at that price...Falkirk far more tempting. Killie injury situation will be vital for that match...Rangers match not too interesting, on a roll versus dangerous away side, Aberdeen at 1.71 looks good enough, Celtic meh.
More later this week when I have more time, so yeah, gimme a hand folks and folkettes.

Re: SPL thread 6-7 October
Beanie, dontbet Falkirk. We will get humped by the twelve man Hearts team with new player Stuart Dougal..He hates the sight of us after we reported him to the SFA a couple of seasons ago.

Re: SPL thread 6-7 October
Hope your having a great trip Beanie. Didn't think my comments would have reached you so soon down under. That carrier pigeon that set off last night has broken all records.
Agree about Falkirk having more appeal than Hearts at the odds, though they're on a miserable run. Saw Celtic at 1.30 last night with Expekt. That looks an absolute giveaway. Also on -2 on the AH at Mansion at 2.20, look a solid bet.
I reckon Rangers will score goals against Hibs who have been finding the net themselves but tend to leak goals. Strongly fancy a home win in this one and might be tempted on the handicap here too.
Motherwell are playing very well and are another team scoring goals. Put up a terrific show against Rangers and with a bit of luck could easily have taken all three points. I'll need to look more closely at this match but I've got a notion for 'Well.
ICT to maintain their revival at Killie who have nosedived since Naismith left? Caley are a big price here and in with much better than a 5/2 chance IMO.
Aberdeen on the back of a great result tonight should see off St Mirren who are lifeless in attack.
Will try and do some digging and firm things up tomorrow, though I'm not certain I'll manage it.

Re: SPL thread 6-7 October
Yeah travels are good, sun is shining, drink is flowing, and on the net enough to merit keeping up the SPL interest. Top banana!
Killie v ICT - ICT's away record is pretty rotten so far, P4 L4 F2 A10, but it's worth noting that pre-Brewster they had their bad losses to St Mirren and Motherwell, while after his return the games were far more tough, a 1-0 reverse v Hibs which they sound like they should have had a lot more from, and a drubbing by Celtic. Anyway, odds of 4.00 at BetDirect do look too big to turn down.
Will give Falkirk a bodyswerve, and Hearts for that matter.
Dundee United's home form is impressive, 3 wins from 4 and no goals conceded. Motherwell have been just as strong away, and coming into this one after the draw v Rangers, it's tough to pick a winner. Could still be tempted on the draw(pydoom's 0-0 half time draw could be a prime candidate here too.)
You might be right about Rangers Para...Hibs have kept things tight away from home this season with the narrow win v Hearts, scoreless draw v DU and 1-1 with Falkirk, but while giving nothing away at the back haven't produced the attacking flair their home form shows they are capable of. Against a Rangers side scoring for fun this season at home, keeping it tight at the back won't be enough, and if they can't get the attacking side going away from home then could be squeezed out of this one. 1.50 should still be around for a wee while yet so no rush there.
Aberdeen still of interest as well, maybe that Celtic handicap bet too...plenty to come back to.

Re: SPL thread 6-7 October
Hi Para...yep, I must admit I've been awol since the last debate! Scottish footy just doesn't always 'get my pecker stiff' , as my old granppay used to say , but not in a football context, mostly used it as a command...but if you loved puppies and sweets...he WAS the man...lovely guy. aahhh..granpappy.
Anways, Football...oh yes....I'm lovin the Hibees this season- UNBEATEN!!...the battle at the top is good for the game....could do with another couple getting within 3 or 4 pts just to make it even more exciting, but overall its been decent. I can't remember the last time there were so many goals each week...the scorelines have been unreal...great for the Overs punters.
This week has a couple of decent looking matches...
Rangers vs Hibs :
going to disagree with you on this one. I realise Hibs having played an extra Home tie helps their current position, and as they've only been 'away' 3 times and won 1 drawn 2 , it is obviously a weak spot for them.
Ibrox is not the place to be going just now, what with Rangers defending a 100% record and +14 GD!.....throw into the mix the CL 3-0 Lyon result and they'll be flying with confidence.
BUT...there's always a but....the Hibs defeat of Celtic 3-2, and the following 4-1 win over Killie has to be factored into the equation. I'm not bothered about the Cup defeat as such due to it being so soon after their big win over Celtic, plus they responded well vs Killie.
Both teams will be confident, both strikeforces are on form, and Hibs have begun performing better in recent seasons when facing Rangers.
A closer look at the Ibrox results, 4-0-0 GF 16 GA 2, shows they were achieved against the sides currently placed 8th, 9th, 10th and 12th.....in fact Rangers are 6-0-0 vs bottom half teams, while 0-1-1 in the 2 vs top half. I'm not that convinced that they are genuine short odds favs when facing a top half side....and Hibs SHOULD be the toughest SPL test to date ..based on this season's form.
So, Hibs need a quick goal and fortunately they are excellent at doing this with 5 struck in the opening 5 mins so far. Rangers have been all about their 2nd half displays, with the opening 45 ranking them as 6th . Hibs are 1st in that table.
I think there is value to be had when you consider there may be a slight 'Lyon" buzz still in the air, while Hibs should be building on the recent league perfomances.
Rangers are there to be had in the opening 45, and if Collins can get his tactics right we could see Rangers playing catch up.
Hibs +1 @ 2.20 pinnacle
Hibs DNB @ 6.50 coral (great price, I think)

Re: SPL thread 6-7 October
Great shout that eddy. FFS come back next week or your car will need to be clamped. Pity you only managed to cover one match. Well maybe not, you might have put a few bookies out the game
Aye komp, it's a pity things have gone so quiet in here. Beanie will no doubt be back from his travels soon which will go a long way to getting things livened up again.

Re: SPL thread 6-7 October
Celtic to beat Gretna easily today. -2 on the AH at better than evens looks good and will do for me. What would the odds be if the match was at Parkhead? A lot lower than evens that's for sure.
I see Paddy Power offering 7/2 on the straight handicap -3. I can see that coming in too but I'm not greedy.
Also another interesting bet (can't remember now where I saw it)
Both teams not to score 2.00
Both teams to score 1.72
Got to think Celtic will keep Gretna at bay even if it is a long time since they kept a clean sheet away from home.
