West Ham v Everton Carling Cup 12th Dec

Carling Cup
Dec 19:45 West Ham v Everton 2.37 3.25 2.75

Odds Bet365

Good win for both sides over the weekend and i should imagine they will both be putting out pretty strong squads for this game as either wouldent mind a bit of silverware this yr.
Close game to call but i should imagine both will be going out for a result and i'm gonna give Everton the slight nod here as at the moment the have that extra bite up front allthough Dean Ashton will only get better the more games he gets under his belt as we saw today against Blackburn.

Suppose at this early stage its best to wait for an incling of team news b4 deciding anything mind.

West Ham v Everton
West Ham's Freddie Ljungberg is set to replace the cup-tied Nolberto Solano, while Dean Ashton will be looking to start after scoring against Blackburn.

Henri Camara is also cup-tied while winger Matthew Etherington is a doubt after suffering a groin injury.

Everton's Leighton Baines is out after a scan showed a hamstring tear suffered during the 3-0 win against Fulham.

Phil Jagielka could take Baines' place while Tony Hibbert (back) and Nuno Valente (hamstring) are in contention.

Quote:
West Ham and Everton meet in cup competition for the first time in 16 years on Wednesday night and both teams will be confident of progressing to the Carling Cup semi-finals as they are both in decent form.

West Ham have lost just once in their last eight games - away at Chelsea, while Everton are unbeaten in their last 10 matches, a run that has coincided with the return of midfielder Tim Cahill.

As always with the Carling Cup trying to second guess team news is a worthless task, as most Premier League managers tend to change at least certain sections of their team.

Alan Curbishley has been selecting second-choice goalkeeper Richard Wright in the Carling Cup this season, but with a Wembley final only two games away he may be tempted to stick with the in-form Robert Green.

He was outstanding at Blackburn on Sunday and Everton would receive a real boost if his name were missing from the home side's team-sheet.

However, at this stage of the competition we can be pretty certain both managers will field strong line-ups so we can gauge an opinion on the possible outcome by evaluating their respective league form.

The table suggests this one should be close - West Ham are five points behind Everton with a game in hand and they have also been collecting similar results against the same types of opposition.

Both teams acquitted themselves well at Chelsea recently - West Ham lost 1-0 while Everton's Cahill scored a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw.

Both teams have also hammered struggling newcomers Sunderland and Derby too - Everton beat the former 7-1 while West Ham eased past the latter 5-0.

And both have drawn 0-0 at high-flying Portsmouth recently as well. Clearly we are dealing with two teams that have a similar level of talent.

All things considered we are happy to leave the win market alone, it looks too close to call and there does look to be a spot of value in the anytime goalscorer list.

Dean Ashton made a pleasing return from injury with a goal against Blackburn, but his odds are very skinny (prices as low as 13/8) considering this is only his second game back - if indeed he starts.

We want to be with Everton as they are in a rich vein of goalscoring form - David Moyes' team have scored 17 goals in seven games since their last Carling Cup appearance.

The obvious value is Tim Cahill. He is 11/4 to score at anytime with a number of layers and that looks too big considering he has scored four times since his winner against Luton Town in the last round of this competition.

It is no coincidence Everton's unbeaten run has been since Cahill returned to the team, and he showed against Zenit St Petersburg he is a man to have on your side in a tight encounter.

He is 17/2 for the first goal and that is a price worth considering to small stakes, but we'll back him to score anytime as 11/4 looks a touch too big.
