Im sorry, i didnt intend to step on any toes or tell anyone who they should bet on. I've seen komp around asking advice on Elgin City before and since he's putting on such a large bet, i though i'd give a few facts about Elgin heading into this game, since there is already some about Arbroath. I was just trying to show him the other side of his bet. Im not 100% confident of an Elgin win myself, but i know we are in great form, have the 2nd best home record in the league and are in a great position to beat Arbroath on Saturday in front of our biggest crowd of the season in our biggest game of the season. I didn't want past form to be the reason he was staking so much on Arbroath, because of the circumstances surrounding the last game at Elgin and the fact when they beat us 4-0 and 5-0, one was a cup game and the other when were bottom of the table and the Elgin city of right now are a vastly improved, stronger team. So was warning him not to read too much into those results. Personally, i think it could be a draw, which i was also warning him about.

Sorry if im coming across as someone trying to tell people who to bet on, i dont think i once said in my post bet on Elgin or anything, just Arbroath in my opinion is a risky bet. I'll be the first to congratulate him on his first big win if it happens.

what about stranraer nicking a win at dumbarton?by the reports of dumbartons last few games they are not a good team....the shire should have beat them last tuesday night....very unlucky.......stranraer will want to cement their place in the play offs a.s.a.p......then they can rest players and take things easy for a couple of weeks......

Aye it's all about opinions Parksy and i'm glad we all don't think alike. City Fan has made me hold my horses a bit and i'll just leave it as what i have on. I knew, as mentioned, that the price wouldnt last and i took it. I remember also a game where Arbroath went to Elgin 2 or 3 seasons ago and elgin had 9 out and where playing kids. We all were on arbroath and they were backed in to odds on. Things never went to plan and i believe Arbroath were 2 nil down at ht. Finished 2-1 i think. Hold on ive got my soccerbase searcher in the sidebar....
www.soccerbase.com - The Internet Soccer Database

Nah it couldnt have been that game. elgin had nelson and johnston playing.

actually i suppose if everyone fancied the same team then Betfair would close down. Come on Arbroath make City Fan think of what if's for the rest of the season

Re: 29th March: Scottish 1st/2nd/3rd

Cheers City Fan. As i say its much appreciated. You know what? I fear the draw now myself its gonna be 1-1 aint it? sheeeet.

The thing that got me about them Arbroath wins over your team this season City Fan is that i belive they all came after Arbroath getting poor results and putting in poor performances. As you say the first win was when your team were raped and you lost at least 6 of your top players from last season. The loan signings though have been immence for you this season though and im sure your like me in that you would never have thought you would be in striking distance at the start of the season. a great season all in for you guys.

Scottish Division 3 Arbroath 2-3 East Fife 11-08-2007
Scottish Division 3 Arbroath 1-1 Dumbarton 18-08-2007
Scottish Division 3 Montrose 3-3 Arbroath 25-08-2007
Scottish Division 3 Arbroath 4-0 Elgin City 01-09-2007

Well it was ok form going into that one.

Scottish Division 3 Stranraer 1-1 Arbroath 06-10-2007
Scottish Division 3 Arbroath 2-2 Stenh'semuir 20-10-2007
Scottish FA Cup Arbroath 5-0 Elgin City 27-10-2007

Again i cant use that as a reason.

Scottish Division 3 Dumbarton 1-1 Arbroath 03-11-2007
Scottish Division 3 Arbroath 0-0 Montrose 10-11-2007
Scottish Division 3 Arbroath 2-2 Stranraer 16-11-2007
Scottish Division 3 Arbroath 3-4 Forfar 01-12-2007
Scottish Division 3 Elgin City 1-3 Arbroath 08-12-2007

again i cant really say that. Interesting to notre so far that they have always seemed to bounce back v you guys. A few draws then they 'beat the elgin'.

Scottish Division 3 Albion 5-2 Arbroath 15-12-2007
Scottish Division 3 East Fife 0-2 Arbroath 26-12-2007
Scottish Division 3 Montrose 5-0 Arbroath 02-01-2008
Scottish Division 3 Arbroath 2-0 Elgin City 19-01-2008

I do think thats where im getting my 'need to back arbroath' from here City Fan. I think ive probably considered backing Arbroath in every game v your team and never as 'well they just aint 'the arbroath of last season'. theyve always done the business and ive been a little sick. Arbroath have had such an underwhelming season so far and they havent performed as they could or should. If the chasing pack to East fife weren't all as iinconsistant as each other then Arbroath wouldnt be in a play-off position. No team ever really put a run together. ever. Let me go look at your team's home results this season as it should shit me up a bit....

I wont take the fist couple of months into account though as your team wasnt the team it became

Scottish Division 3 Elgin City 3-2 Albion 15-09-2007
Scottish Division 3 Elgin City 6-0 East Stirling 22-09-2007
Scottish Division 3 Elgin City 2-1 Dumbarton 20-10-2007
Scottish Division 3 Elgin City 2-2 Forfar 10-11-2007
Scottish Division 3 Elgin City 1-3 Arbroath 08-12-2007
Scottish Division 3 Elgin City 2-0 Stenh'semuir 29-12-2007
Scottish Division 3 Elgin City 1-2 East Fife 05-01-2008
Scottish Division 3 Elgin City 2-1 Montrose 26-01-2008
Scottish Division 3 Elgin City 0-5 Stranraer 27-02-2008
Scottish Division 3 Elgin City 3-1 Forfar 01-03-2008
Scottish Division 3 Elgin City 1-1 Albion 05-03-2008
Scottish Division 3 Elgin City 2-1 Dumbarton 15-03-2008
Scottish Division 3 Elgin City 3-0 East Stirling 19-03-2008

as you say you were certainl at the races in the 1-3 defeat by Arbroath. No shame in being beat by East fife 2-1. I read that your team played ok in that 5-0 defeat by stranraer and it was just a bit of a freak and maybe it could be taken with a pinch of salt. aye well your team has done nothing wrong have they?

Arbroath to me never put 2 good results together and where prone to bouncing back from poor results. also their away form was better than at home.Let me have a look at it in the flesh as ive a feeling i aint gonna be that impressed....

Scottish Division 3 Stenh'semuir 1-0 Arbroath 04-08-2007
Scottish Division 3 Montrose 3-3 Arbroath 25-08-2007
Scottish Division 3 Forfar 1-3 Arbroath 15-09-2007
Scottish Division 3 East Stirling 2-3 Arbroath 29-09-2007
Scottish Division 3 Stranraer 1-1 Arbroath 06-10-2007
Scottish Division 3 Dumbarton 1-1 Arbroath 03-11-2007
Scottish Division 3 Elgin City 1-3 Arbroath 08-12-2007
Scottish Division 3 Albion 5-2 Arbroath 15-12-2007
Scottish Division 3 East Fife 0-2 Arbroath 26-12-2007
Scottish Division 3 Montrose 5-0 Arbroath 02-01-2008
Scottish Division 3 Stenh'semuir 0-3 Arbroath 02-02-2008
Scottish Division 3 East Stirling 0-1 Arbroath 09-02-2008
Scottish Division 3 Dumbarton 2-1 Arbroath 23-02-2008
Scottish Division 3 Stranraer 0-3 Arbroath 08-03-2008
Scottish Division 3 Forfar 1-0 Arbroath 11-03-2008

aye i dont mind that form City Fan. After they bust me last week when i took Forfar to beat them at a tasty 10/3 they 'started slow' etc but came back into it. Im hoping that ugly old mcglashen has used last week to his advantage and they'll be right up for this one. I think no matter what i am happy to have my money on Arbroath at 8/5. It's gonna be a nail biter and yes ive lost on this fixture a few times in my life so i aint a stranger to the pain that it can cause. Im confident and hopefull and all i can say is come on arbroath. do it for me, do it for yourself and do it for your fans. yip a draw will suit them but im hoping that they wont have the pressure on them as your boys will have and let them relax a bit and play as they could (like going to East Fife that time on boxing day) I think Arbroath will field the strongest team that they have all season and yip im happy with the price. Theyve got a ....dare i say it...a 6/5 chance imo.

Arbraths remaining games of the season are-
Scottish Division 3 Albion vs Arbroath 05-04-2008
Scottish Division 3 Arbroath vs East Stirling 12-04-2008
Scottish Division 3 East Fife vs Arbroath 19-04-2008
Scottish Division 3 Arbroath vs Stranraer 26-04-2008

And im sure they would like to get safel in the play-offs before meeting East Fife and stranraer even if them 2 have not much to play for. Go on the arbroath

a team that knocked me last week is one which interests me this weekend and thats ayr after their last two super away results surely they could beat alloa who are quite good at home from what i seen, 9/4 in the local, looks like it should be gobbled up

Re: 29th March: Scottish 1st/2nd/3rd

wow kompressaur, you've really thought about this one

Quote:

Absolutely. Even i didn't think we'd avoid bottom spot, it's been an amazing effort from the team this season.

The danger here about processing so much of the statistics about form and past games is that this a must win game for both sides and in games like these form can go out the window.

If we win, it really will be massive for us and i just believe in front of a big home crowd, the big occassion will lift the players a lot and we will have a right good go at Arbroath. Of course, it could be the opposite and we freeze.

It will be interesting to see how Arbroath line up, because i've seen them rip us apart 4-0 and 5-0 at thier place, but in Elgin they set up quite defensively and barely crossed the halfway line untill the sending off. Even against 10 men, they sat back a bit and we had a good couple of chances. A draw would suit them and kill off our hopes, so will be interesting to see how McGlashan plays it.

If we win, i wont be coming on here gloating i told you so, im not that confident we'll win this myself and if we lose I'll applaud you on your win.

For the sake of Elgin City and our fans, I've never wanted us to win more than on Saturday. our fans deserve the glory of reaching the playoffs after so many years of hurt and since Arbroath do it on a regular basis and will believe they can challenge for the title next season, I think our fans want it much more than them. The place has been buzzing this week ahead of the game, while most Arbroath fans seem to not ever register Elgin City as a threat.

Re: 29th March: Scottish 1st/2nd/3rd

If i wasnt so involved City Fan i think i would like your team to win too. Ive always liked elgin even though the banned me from their old forum (i only mentioned this place whilst asking what had happened to Adam Nelson. actually what DID happen to him? did he go to Brechin? speaking of which Has Johnston left Brechin? i think he went to the highland league didnt he?

I was just away looking for our ante-post thread there City Fan. someone was asking us if The Shire will finish bottom and me and few others said NO!!!! ELGIN WILL!!! I wont laugh as it cost folks money. East Stirling were splashing the cash and your team couldnt hold onto anyone. You's had Mckenzie as manager for a while didnt you. Didnt you get a new manager about Oct and he turned it around? Williamson i think. I only can read so much and lately ive been reading less and less whilst i get this forum finished. Only took me 3 years+ fcuk i want elgin to win now. Maybe i can do backward psychology on myself and cheer you on and the money is just a bonus. I have to admit i have since won everything i put on Arbroath back playing some steady poker (in the money about 90% of the time last few days) Still i need the money as i will e homeless at the end of april and i will need to have a job and a flat i presume so im playing to win from now till then. Aye Arbroath at the price i have to be happy with. Im sure that Arbroath had a few out the last time they went to elgin. Infact City Fan, im away to phone my brother and ask him if he can work for me saturday night and im gonna go to the game. brb

Haha Great How far are you from Elgin??

Very suprised you were banned from our forum, the webmaster is a really easy going guy! I do remember seeing you post on there though asking about Adam. Yes he went to Brechin and is still there. Johnston is now at Cove Rangers in the highland league after having a nightmare time at Brechin.

Yeah, McKenzie was manager for a while, a great manager too! probably the youngest manager ever seen in Scotland. Then Brian Irvine (former Aberdeen and Scotland) took over for a year and took us from a playoff challenging team to bottom and then came in Williamson, who has been amazing, saving us from bottom spot at the end of last season and has us pushing for playoffs this season. He really has done a sensational job considering the players we lost in the summer along with the fact the wage bill was slashed!

Pretty far City Fan. Im in Kilmarnock Nope i can't make it as i need to watch my cash. Once i move to glasgow (i presume i am) and get settled i will try and see a game at every football ground in the scots 1-2-3 leagues next season. Ive been working on a saturday for the whole of last season, i think.

Actually City Fan i think i just got myself banned from ezboard come to think of it. The old forum was on that and i think i got globally banned. thanks for filling me in with the managers and players. Looks like i missed a whole season there. You'll remeber the Robertson days better than me Man he could make up some excuses. Talk about over staying your welcome Here's where i lost the most amnount of money ever on elgin

I was in baw deep in that one. think i was getting even money. I forget. actually folks off topic but i found this when looking for my 'kompressaur's wanking for profit' forum i started up on ezboard

Painful to see those deveronvale highlights crazy crazy day. Losing 4-0 after 30 minutes and produce a heoric comeback but still lose 5-4. That header right in the dying seconds that just creeps past the post is still very hard to watch (2 mins 40 in the vid), I was behind the goal and thought it was in, I was about to go mental. Very depressing day, thanks for the reminder :p
