Because I told them too

I've actually changed my mind a bit on this. I still think Cowden might go through, but it'll be close. Possibly after extra time.

I think my pessimistic attitude came from the friendly results, which is a bit stupid as they don't mean anything. But thinking about it today, we have almost the same squad from the end of last season. The only major people we've lost are Frizzel, Dempsie and Sutherland. At this time of year, we're usually heading into a new season having lost 7 or 8 first team players. Hence why we always have rubbish starts.

One thing that has got me a bit optimistic is our top scorer from last season (and 4th in the division) Darren Shallicker was in the middle east with the RAF over the summer. He's come back 2 stone lighter and I think it could help his game massivly. 12 goals in 19 starts last season and thats while being a fat bastard. The problem is he's only played 2 pre-season games. Another boost is that Martin Charlesworth, who almost missed the entire season last season is back and fully fit. Our strikers may actually score a lot of goals between them this season.

Im going on a bit here, but after being so sure that we were going to get beat tomorrow, I think we have a small chance. We've got a good squad and this season will be capable of beating anyone at home and I think we're actually going to push Cowden close tomorrow. Just wish I hadn't already stuck £25 on them.

Re: Scottish Football League Challenge Cup: 26th July

The team news makes interesting reading on BBC

Quote:
"The Borough Briggs outfit have had a quiet pre-season on the transfer front with no significant arrivals.
New Cowdenbeath manager Danny Lennon has made significant changes to his squad over the summer, with seven players in line for debuts."
So tomorrow we're looking at a game containing a settled squad who've been playing together for a year vs a new squad with a new manager who have been playing together for a pre-season. Lennon is an inexperienced manager and with Cowden being in division two for a while, maybe doesn't know what to expect coming north to play us.

We might not have brought in any significant arrivals, but we have a good squad, that would've been in the playoffs if not for a total disaster of a start last season. Players who know each other inside out, while the Cowden team are still "gelling."

Hmm oh christ, I think I've just gone and convinced myself we can win tomorrow

Re: Scottish Football League Challenge Cup: 26th July

Lovely posts mate, theres no chance I'll have anything on the game now, cant be backing a relegated side facing a long trip north with new players and couldnt back against them as they could gel straight away.

Leaving this one to the rest of you, I'm happy with my deluded Ross County side to beat a team that will be more focused on the long term.

Want to double them up with somebody, if Annan were playing ANY other team from the entire SFL (f'king joke theyve been let in over cove or spartans btw) I'd be on them, I think Clyde will go down this year and will go down terribly, I'd be surprised if they score a goal all year.

Want to back East Fife but I need a pep talk from parksy

Re: Scottish Football League Challenge Cup: 26th July

Dunfermline Ath v Stirling Albion
SFL

Dunfermline player-manager Jim McIntyre will miss the Challenge Cup tie after tearing his calf - leaving the Pars with just one recognised striker.

Graham Bayne - a summer signing from Inverness - is sure to lead the line for the home side.

Stirling Albion only have 14 players signed up for the new season and may field a few trialists.

Chris Hamilton is likely to get another chance to impress after playing in a midweek friendly with St Mirren.

this is why i've laid stirling in my 4fold despite the crappy odds, cant see the pars losing this one at all. we saw how bad stirling were last season, worse now

Re: Scottish Football League Challenge Cup: 26th July

I've placed one more bet, £20 on Ross County, Clyde, QOTS and Dunfarmland to beat Stirling Lions.

£52 staked overall, bit stupid considering the time of year and the great footy ahead but its the first week and I'vr missed it

Anybody else on to post their final bets?

Re: Scottish Football League Challenge Cup: 26th July

I'm on Clyde and Partick.

Thought I had left them alone but my Aussie double won and when I was checking to see if the bet was settled I noticed it wasn't a double but I had added Clyde and Partick..... too much and cant remember

Re: Scottish Football League Challenge Cup: 26th July

Well im waiting or ayr in coral's tomorrw and im gonna grab it on the way home from work. Looks like thee best bet of the weekend to me. Im just waiting on some team news on the radio before taking QOS. I cant see me not being on clyde and partick. Ross County spacecat brave brave man. good luck to you on that one.

I gave up on Aussie football 2 weeks ago Keg's. i maybe wrongly blamed it for me being skint all summer. i coudnt even look in there this week nor update ass

Aye Parick and goals at home could be a worry parksy but im hoping o see an improvement in their home form this season and what better place to start in front of an expectent crowd v a disheveled QP side. bah why am i getting worried again. It's the lack of info/team news. it's the time of the season, it's the 'diddy cup' it's all these things. That all said i still think their well worth their 1/2 quote and lets hope to see the winning like the odds suggest.

Thank SGR. I was lying in bed thinking about this one. Dundee have to be worth hte 4/5 i saw on them especially with alloa's team news. aye i think i will chance them on a tentative 'shout on' line.

Ross county look ready for this spacecat but i ca't help but fear some of the players st j have in their team for today. my recommendation is over 2.5 in this one with st j's defensive probs and with them conceding a ew pre-season. i wouldnt like to back either team though but good luck.

Im leaving Cowdenbetah too. too scary. As mentioned 7 debutants v a settled and good at home side. i think the price is about right on cowdenbetah but good luck those on them.

away with you Spacecat clyde are gonna have a good season and i like the look of them trouten, kettewell, clarke, aye nicely progressive imo. I think they'lll shine in games like today. aye im gonna look at clyde minus 3 or similar.

Quote:
Clyde will be without three players when his side host league new-boys Annan Athletic in the Challenge Cup.

Forwards Dave McKay and Marc McCusker and midfielder Ricky Waddell are on the First Division side's injury list.
that aint a problem.

Quote:
Jamie Sevenson, Jamie Hay and Pat Scullion have all collected niggling injuries in the past week.
if you add bomber brown and buist to that list then you have to take dundee at 4/5. im getting 13/20 on them and cant take it though.

Forfar i might chance to repeat their performances over Arbroath of last season. A Campbell inspired Forfar side should be better than last season too and the 7/2 has to be a little bit of value

Peterhead i could consider. Stenhousmuir i will take. Injuries don't seem as bad as i feared.

bollocks bet365 have moved clyde into 2/9, partick to 1/3 :shakehead Lucky i put on a bet a few days ago

Queen of South @ 8/13
Clyde @ 1/3
Ayr @ 8/11
Cowdenbeath @ 5/4
Livingston @ 1/2
Partick @ 1/2
Stenhousemuir @ 8/11
35x1pt 4-folds

looks like just a double for me. i need to sort out my betting opions a bit as im a slave to bet365

1 Stenhousemuir @ 8/13
2 Ayr @ 8/11
6pts double
