Re: FA Communtiy Shield

raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

No suprises who I am on for this game. If I may draw a comparison.... Chelsea are the over paid, under motivated fat heavy weight champion who has lost the will to fight and scrap like Tyson in the early days. Liverpool are the young, eager whippersnappers. Apollo Creed to Liverpool's Rocky Balboa.

Lack of desire seems apparent within the players. if the club is so bloody good and if the team spirit is so excellent - why do so many players (Duff, Crespo, Bridge, Gallas, Del Horno) want to leave??

Attending big name parties and mixing with the Hollywood elite do not make for a productive pre season. They can buy friends but they cant buy match fitness, together ness and above all - trophies.

Joe Cole is a major doubt and I saw yesterday that Crespo had moved to Inter. There are doubts about fat frank and Ballack playing together and concerns too about the formation he may use. In recent years, Chelsea have torn teams apart with their pace and counter attacks. Mourinho seems to be doing everything he can to rid the team of width and pace. If they want to play it through the centre, they'll get whacked.

Liverpool have the upper hand over Chelsea in cup ties. Benitez knows how to play it. His team have had a rigorous pre season and have been worked like dogs. Running up and down steps and beating up frozen meat was apparently part of the regime. Young, nimble and hungry. Above all a team. The meanest defence and the best midfield in Europe, allied with that we now have the pace and dynamism of Pennant Gonzalez and Bellamy.

Victory is assured people. We have balance, pace, skill and now wingers. I havent even eulogised about Crouch yet either. I will leave that for another day.

I will be in the North Stand for this one and I would to see a good humping but reckon 1-0 Liverpool is more likely.

Jose who...?

Steven Gerard might have to stay at home to look after the kids;

Steven Gerrard's fiancee arrested
Aug 11 2006

EXCLUSIVE By GREG O'KEEFFE and MICHELLE FIDDLER, Liverpool Echo

ALEX Curran was today arrested after a teenage girl was allegedly hit with a bottle in a Liverpool restaurant.

The ECHO understands the 23-year-old fiancee of Reds captain Steven Gerrard is being questioned in connection with a scuffle in the Shangri-la Chinese restaurant on Victoria Street early this morning.

Miss Curran was in the restaurant with a group of friends after a night out in the city centre when an 18-year-old from Merseyside was allegedly hit in the face with a bottle during a row between male and female diners at 2.50am.

The victim suffered a badly swollen face and was today set to have x-rays taken of her injuries.

The ECHO understands that mother-of-two Miss Curran voluntarily decided to help police and drove herself to the police station from the home she shares with England’s new vice-captain.

Today one of her friends, who asked not to be named, said: "It was horrible. We were just having a meal after a night out and there was a fight in the restaurant.

"My mate stood up and started screaming for them to stop fighting and one of the blokes came over to her and was really abusive. He was swearing and ranting and knocked her bag off the table.

"A couple of seconds later someone came over and shoved a bottle in her face.

"We got a taxi to the Royal and spent all night there. It was really upsetting because her eye was all closed over. She could have been blinded."

At noon it emerged the Huyton-born mother-of-two had been arrested.

A police spokeswoman said: "We are investigating an alleged assault in the Shangri-la restaurant at about 2.50am today.

"It is believed there was a group of about five men and women involved."

Re: FA Community Shield

you trying to say Gerrard won't take this seriously WAS

Its the opener to the new season and hopefully both clubs will put out a side to make it an entertaining match, Chelsea have not had the best of results in pre season friendlies and are still bedding in a few players but Liverpool midweek did not set the world alight either in their Champs League qualifier.

Cannot see Gerrard being shoved up front for this one and may even get half a game in his usual position, Benitez cannot afford to take too many risks in this game and will probably try a few things out knowing his first 11 for the forth coming season, Mourinhio on the other hand has an abundance to pick from and all will be pushing for a start come the new season.

Chelski have to start upping the tempo from now on in and will probably win this by a couple 2-0 , 3-1.

Have you been on the old chicken tandoori rolls again mate? Bloody hell. The big plate has our name all over it.

2-0 Liverpool, at a canter. Gerrard to break terry's legs (both of them) and to assume captaincy of england.

Re: FA Community Shield

From the BBC...

Liverpool will not be tempted to risk striker Robbie Fowler (knee injury) or defender Fabio Aurelio (calf).

Peter Crouch will come into contention for a starting role after being rested to the bench for the Champions League qualifier against Maccabi Haifa.

For Chelsea, Joe Cole and Petr Cech are injured, Claude Makelele gets extra time to recover from the World Cup.

William Gallas is back after failing to link up for the pre-season tour of the USA, but will not feature on Sunday.

Re: FA Community Shield

everybody understands that i support Liverpool but i'm not gonna put even a penny on this match. It's an opener and afte all who needs this Community Shield?! I believe whatever the result the game isn't going to be entertaining (Chelsea can't play that way). Mr Special wants to win it's clear but hopefully he'll have to moan again after the match

Come on, Reds!

Gerrard, Bellamy, Alonos and Hypia all on the bench. Benitez showing where his priorities lie perhaps.

Chelsea in 90 for me too.

If that's true then obviously Liverpool will leave their "never say die" attitude somewhere else today. It might be for the better, as there's full season to play and there will much more precious trophies to play for.

Still, having said all that, I can't rule out Liverpool win. We'll play let Chelski attack and try to catch 'em on an counter or score after the set-piece.

Have to say i really like Chelsea here and im going to be on them now after originally not being interested in this.

Reason being that i feel Liverpool look VERY weak in midfield with them being a bit lightweight for me.

Essien, Lampard, Ballack, Geremi are all very strong players and up against the likes of Zenden, Gonzalez, Luis Garcia.

Bit of a mismatch there.

Chelsea also look far stronger attacking wise with far more options.

Chelsea to win for me
