Re: Non League Thread: 12th August

Agreed WAS, if all those players mentioned in your previous post play it'll be a much more hard fought match than you'd ideally like. Though Strevens was on a decent wage at Barnet so I'm not sure what the situation would be with him.

Re: Non League Thread: 12th August

I agree with you there WAS.

I can't fathom why the 5 players that the article mentioned stuck around though.

I think some of the trialists involved in the Brentford game have got fixed up but i can't be sure. A bit busy to check at the moment.

As Muze earlier stated anything about evens is value but the weight of money has driven this through the floor.

Re: Non League Thread: 12th August

I think you're right Bandaide (and welcome to TDP btw).

Why else would players have no contract at this time of season and join a team who could be wound up in two weeks that have outstanding debts to players?

Don't want to put a dampener on the Crawley bandwagon, although I am in as heavily as anyone else, but I wouldn't want anyone to think that it will be walkover.

Rushden were reasonable value at 13/10 and 5/4 . But if you read the forums, the Crawley view point is that they can put out an experienced team who are more than capable of winning. Personally I haven't got a clue how good they are but it won't be a side full of teenagers.

The encouragement is that the nucleus of the team were comfortably beaten by Brighton reserves in a pre season friendly but on the other hand they also held a Brentford first X1 to a draw.

I am still confident because Rushden will be a strong side and Crawley are "up the wall" but this is not printing money like we did with Runcorn last season or Southport reserves in pre seson
Totally agree Was and I dont think anyone should be taking it at all at the shortened odds in all honesty. I dont want to piss on anyones tits but its really not anything more than a reasonable wager anymore imo.

"The five players who remained from last season - Ben Judge, Dave Woozley, Danny Brown, Lee Blackburn and Tony Scully - are expected to play tomorrow. Trialists Scott Hiley, Jake Edwards and Ben Strevens, who impressed in pre-season, are all expected to play a part."
So hardly a youth player amongst them on Saturday really

Re: Non League Thread: 12th August

Check this out...

I have 2 "accounts" (hypothetical really) one that I expose to match risk and one that's there for the 4 or so opportunities on Betfair to take advantage of crashing prices.

I went on Betfair last night as I topped up heavy on Crawley and layed it off at 1.8. Then the market went mad and I was getting matched at levels like 2.14 and stuff. So I decided to have some fun.

I've just checked and this is the current state of play:

That'd be pretty sweet in isolation but I've still got Rushden bets spread over 4 bookies to contend with.

Did I ever tell you that I love Non-league football????!!!!!

Re: Non League Thread: 12th August

I am no expert but I did read the various pre season previews and I fancy Stevenage to win at Altrincham. The 5/4 price seems fair enough

Re: Non League Thread: 12th August

Yeah, I also like Stevenage.

Here's a write up I did:

I expect both teams to be at opposite ends of the table come May.

Altricham fans are still moaning about the defense lacking pace and having too many strikers.

It's a pity that speedy winger Dale Binns is currently out until September as he would've definitely tested the Alty back line. However, Stevenage are expected to play with two wingers and have Binn's clubmate from Cambridge City, Craig Dobson and a survivor from last season, George Boyd. New striker Hector Mackie has also been told to "mix up his play" as he's been taking on players at every opportunity in pre-season.

The pre-season form of both sides hasn't set the world alight but Altrincham's results have been less than impressive loosing to Man City youth and Leigh RMI from the league below.

I'm taking the 6/5 (edit - as WAS says 5/4 is great) on Stevenage because I think this fixture should be priced at around even money. Unfortuanately Altrincham haven't got the budget to compete with the signings that teams like Stevenage make. They only have 6 defenders in total I think and are struggling to add more before Saturday.

2pts for me as I'm limiting my stake due to the absence of form. The 6/5 does offer a nice premium to fair value IMO.

I'm also on Stafford at 5/1 for a point as a nice outside shot.

Re: Non League Thread: 12th August

Bet365 have Halifax @ 2.50 to score the first goal at Oxford, tasty odds i think if you consider how well they did last season. They have recently signed Andy Cambell..

The 27-year-old began his career as a trainee at Middlesbrough before joining Cardiff for £950,000 in March 2002.

He also had loan spells with Oxford, Doncaster, Bolton and Sheffield United.

He could stick one past his former employee's. They also have Lewis Colleen, Ryan Sugden and Steve Torpey capable of getting one. Halifax could win this at a big price, i've taken first goal though.
