Re: Non League Weekend - 22nd/23rd September

Theres just lots of possible aways this weekend, gota sort out the wheat from the chaff though but the conference is mainly where its at for once. The Conf North and South looks wholly uninspiring to me as does the Southern. Shortlist...

Cambridge Utd v Aldershot @ 6/4
Burton v Northwich @ 3/1
Crawley v Grays @ 6/5
Stafford v Oxford @ 11/10

Ashford v Heybridge @ 5/4

Lincoln v Witton @ 13/8

Other worthy mentionables (which basically means decent looking propositions but nothing I would have thought id personally back unless someone persuades me or something) are....

Gravesend in the conference. Vauxhall and Blyth are both potentially too long in the North. Salisbury its hard not to be interested in for the South at the moment. Tonbridge and Horsham both pretty tasty away prices in the Ryman. Ilkeston and Prescot could both be some value in the Unibond.

Re: Non League Weekend - 22nd/23rd September

Gravesend & Northfleet to beat St Albans @ 13 /8 Skybet

Match-up:

http://www.nonleaguegambler.com/matc...?FixtureID=595

From the match-up you can see that St Albans have suffered 6 defeats from their last 8 games. Conversely Gravesend have been unbeaten for the last 7 matches. They’ve drawn their last 3 away, with the two at Rushden and Halifax being very good results.

True Rushden had a man sent off but a Gravesend fan has this to say about their performance:

“We had a goal dissallowed, hit the bar twice (Danny Slatter and Ross Smith), had one cleared off the line and made the goalkeeper make a fine stop, the ball just would not go in for us in the first half when if you look at things we could have been (I'm not joking) 5-0 up.”

And a Rushden point of view:

“Poor first half, better second against what I think was the best side I have seen this year. Got out of jail a few times and should have been 3 down at half time.”

It’s slightly worrying that Fleet picked up some injuries during the game, most notably to their centre-backs. However, St Alban’s poor run of form has coincided with them having a bit of an “injury” crisis at the moment. Gravesend’s squad should be able to cope that little bit better than the newly promoted part-timers.

The Gravesend pairing of attacking midfielder De Bolla and striker Macdonald have scored 5 times and 7 times respectively so they're bang in form at the moment.

I’d be interested in this fixture at 6/4 so at 13/8 I’m going to invest in it for two points.

EDIT - Since writing this Hills have gone 7/4 apparently

Re: Non League Weekend - 22nd/23rd September

Is there any adverse team news on Witton or anything? I feel like im missing something cos I dont have any idea why Lincoln are priced up favourites everywhere, just seems stupid to me. 13/8 looks pretty massive for Witton I think I really dont know why they arent favourites.

Lincoln have had such an easy set of fixtures to start the season, theyve played ALL the dross and stilll only come out with average points and finding life hard infront of goal (keeping it pretty tight at the back as well to be fair). The only 2 good teams they played they lost both 2-0 albeit away. Take a look at Lincolns 4 home games and tell me your impressed though, you cant cos its really not impressive at all. 1-2-1 at home but those teams are bad teams theyve played.

Witton have had a good 4-2-2 start despite having a really quite tough set of fixtures and are having some very high scoring games. They done pretty good all in all scoring plenty (20 in 8! Conceded 13 in 8 too though worth pointing out) and winning their last 2. 2-1-1 away so far so ticking along nicely.

Both sides had mirror like home and away records last season, Lincolns home being poor and Wittons very good away. Lincoln will have a hard time living with them I think. I see one books going 11/8 that seems a bit more realistic I guess It looks 11/8 at worst off the top of my head tbh.

Weeeeird could be up for a chunk there for sure. No rush getting on though as even though only 1 book goes 13/8, 3 go 8/5 which isnt exactly much worse. Needs looking into but could be a goody.

Re: Non League Weekend - 22nd/23rd September

Btw ive taken Grays 6/5 and Oxford 11/10 for 3pts and 3.5pts respectively, just min stakes 4pt profit plays.

Grays 6/5, I make them Evens at worst 11/10 and Oxford I make 10/11 at worst Evens.

ANY lower a price on either and I wouldnt have taken them but I feel theres a just a little value to each for min stakes profit plays (I will never bet for less than 4pts profit).

Both are just top quality sides who if on form will very likely win. Both Crawley and Stafford are average at best sides on poor form, both equally opposable at the moment. Staffords home record flatters them as well, scoring dead late equalisers to prevent 1-0 defeats in their last 2 homes. Infact in the last 6 games the only goals theyve scored is a peno and a rebound from a peno, not the best form to be taking into a game with an Oxford team with 8-2-0 who havent failed to score in a game yet. First time ive bet on Oxford so far though so no doubt time for them to fcuk up and ill be bemoaning the fact Betfred had to go 11/10 when no one else did

Im going to the Crawley v Grays game live as well so itd be nice to get the ticket paid for!

Re: Non League Weekend - 22nd/23rd September

Heybridge look a tasty bet to me at 5/4 Skybet for their visit to Ashford. Id bet on em at 6/5 as well so the 5/4 is just an extra bit of niceness there and thus a bit more staked at 5pts.

Really like Heybridge, my favourite team in the Ryman (other than my home town team Horsham of course!) Always good for goals and tight at the back. Since their disapointing opening day away defeat theyve won 4 drawn 2 winning both their aways to teams as good as Ashford by 2-0 and 3-1 scorelines. Theyve scored 10 conceded 2 in those 5 games.

Ashford since their opening day win have lost 3 drawn 3. Lost 2 of their games at home and got their arse kicked at Bromley 5-1 in their last game. The main thing I like is the amount of goals theyre letting in, its looooads 15 shipped in 7 games. I fully expect Heybridge to score 2 or 3 if im honest. Ashford are good going forward but the difference is Heybridge are good at the back, I dont think theyll concede more than once. I think Heybridge should be no worse than Evens, Corals go that and I agree with that.

p.s just an added nice stat is Heybridge were bonza on the road last season with a 14-0-7 record.

Re: Non League Weekend - 22nd/23rd September

Witton have a new CF. I'll be writing more on them very soon...

I like Heybridge as they're on a roll but I'm worried about the draw in that particular fixture as the Bromley result was apparently a bit flattering. Would've liked 11/8 but 5/4 is reasonable against a Lincoln team that usually struggles.

I saw the price yesterday morning. I read all the usual material on the Witton/Lincoln related websites and the stuck 4pts on immediately. Didn't want to post anything here straightaway yet in case I was missing something

Re: Non League Weekend - 22nd/23rd September

Worksop v Hinckley

This is Hinckleys first game since the tragic death of Matt Gadsby.

They were in pretty good form before their enforced break. Worksop may not be the complete fodder for a "lets do it for Matt" tribute but they are not far off it.

A touch of conscience can creep in for us punters in not wanting to be seen to make money in such circumstances but life goes on and it will be the bookies who will profit if my punt goes up the swanny.

Anyway I've put an extra £30 quid on and I pledge that any profit on this part of the bet will go to the Matt G fund.

Hinckley 4pts @ 7/5

Re: Non League Weekend - 22nd/23rd September

So, here's my reasoning behind agreeing with Muze and WAS on Witton.

Witton to beat Lincoln United @ 13/8 Skybet

Unibond Prem, Saturday

On their day Witton are a very good team. Despite financial problems Witton finished just off the play off’s in 8th compared to Lincoln United’s 19th placed finish.

On paper just 3 points separate the two teams after 8 games as you can see. However, I believe the difference to be a bit more substantial when you consider the individual fixtures of the two teams. Lincoln’s 3 wins this season have come against the section’s poorer teams, Grantham, Mosseley and out-of form Leek.

In comparison Witton’s two losses have come against favourites Telford and in-form Kendal Town. One thing that catches the eye is Witton’s goal scored column. If you include the recent 3-2 FA Cup home win over Sheffield they’ve scored 11 goals in the last 3 games. Also, they played a Tranmere XI this midweek in the Cheshire cup and won 5-1.

This is significant for me as Lincoln have failed to score in their last two home games. To compete in this league you should really be scoring against the likes of Radcliffe and Ossett. Indeed, 7 times out of 8 this season they’ve scored just one goal or less.

However, you can see that Witton’s goals against column is a bit on the bulky side. Fans blame injuries for this and regular centre back Tom Spearitt playing in midfield as cover. Last night they had a few come back into the team and this bodes well for Saturday.

The 13/8 seems to big for a Witton team that demolished Ashton 5-1 recently and fans thought that they didn’t really get out of second gear. 2 points for me on this one.

Re: Non League Weekend - 22nd/23rd September

Gloucester to beat Northwood @ Evens - Stan James

BG Southern League, Saturday

Match-Up

http://www.nonleaguegambler.com/matc...FixtureID=2578

Towards the back end of last season Tim Harris made a slightly controversial decision to abandon Merthyr and take over at then struggling Gloucester. After that they became one of my favourite teams to back at home as the books constantly over-priced them and they went on a great run of home victories.

This season has started a bit patchy for them. You can see from the match-up that they’ve got the same home record as Northwood’s away with a win, draw and a loss.

In their last league game they were unfortunate losers to the odd goal in five at Stamford. The Stamford match report says that Gloucester created many chances and that’s something that I like about this bet. They may currently be leaky at the back but you can see they’ve scored in every game.

They did struggle in the FA Cup recently to dispose of Liskard at home but they won the replay on Wednesday in good style so I hope they can take confidence from this.

Northwood can’t buy a goal at the minute. 4 league defeats in row and if you include the recent FA Cup game they haven’t scored in three games. Speaking of the FA Cup it seems that Northwood have a few injuries at present. They played Harrow Borough and had to have a “makeshift” central defense pairing. During the game their keeper had to go off with a leg injury in the second half so luck’s not with them at the moment. I’ll update the injury situation when more becomes known…

For my money (or not as the case may be) Corals price this up accurately when they go 4/5. I contemplated a few even money home bets for this weekend and at the time of writing this is the one I like best.

3 points on “The Tigers” for me then….

Re: Non League Weekend - 22nd/23rd September

Halesowen to beat Wealdstone @13/8 (Skybet)

Southern Prem, Saturday

Wealdstone struggled last season in the Ryman league and it looks like they’ll struggle in the Southern too. Having lost their last 3 fixtures the FA Cup could have provided some relief…if they didn’t get knocked out 2-1 to Potters bar from the level below. The local paper says it was the worst Stones performance of the season and akin to a pre-season game. Significantly the 1st choice keeper had to go off after an hour with a recurring injury though this must’ve been expected as the reserve GK was on the bench.

Wealdstone have only two victories this season, against Northwood and Team Bath so that really doesn’t put me off this bet.

Halesowen are another strong team in this section underperforming. They finished just outside the play-offs last year in 8th. One fan has described this season like a “Rollercoaster” though. They just ended AFC Telford’s 20 match unbeaten run in a game that featured 3 red cards, 2 penalties and 6 goals. Halesowen’s Matt Lewis scored all his side’s goals and is nominated for the “Player of the round” award.

On their day Halesowen are a match for any team home or away. They showed this by beating favourites Kings Lynn 2-0 away and Gloucester 3-1 away. Surprisingly it’s their home form which is letting them down with just one point racked up after 4 home games.

I’d award both teams 11/8 in this tie so the 13/8 offered to skybet I will take for two points and hope it’s the right Halesowen that turns up.

Re: Non League Weekend - 22nd/23rd September

I've no big write up for this one it's just a hunch.
Weymouth boss Garry Hill would love to pinch a win at his former club and the 5/2 @ Skybet for him getting it is a touch overpriced imo. He will know a lot of the players that his team faces, both clubs are level on 20 points and it's a tight one to call but i'm on the Weymouth with a small/medium stake.

Exeter and Stevenage have a bit of a past rivalry, the 3/1 for the away was very tempting but Stevenage and Crawley are two teams that i must stay away from this season. I could yet be on Rushden @ 2/1

Good luck all
