Re: Carling Cup ( 7th - 8th Nov )

Chesterfield vs Charlton is interesting isn't it.

Now If Charlton put out a strong side which im quite sure they will then 1.8 has to represent huge value, sure Chesterfeild have caused a few upsets, again against a completely out of sorts man city and west ham, but the fact is they are still a L1 side, not even a great one and 1.8 from an objective point of view has to look appealing.

This is the only real chance Charlton have of Europe so surely this will be taken seriously, I would be expecting more in the region of 1.5.

Id encourage tentative stakes given just the nature of the game, but then is 1.8 really worth tentative stakes? Im sure this is a long term profitable bet so maybe it is worth serious consideration.

Re: Carling Cup ( 7th - 8th Nov )

all_the_rage I personally would not touch games in the Carling Cup for betting, for a few reasons.

1. You do not know how the teams will approach the game, whether they will be full strength or weakened.
2. Form goes out of the window.
3. Lower league teams at home with full houses, big atmosphere, big nerves for premiership teams

Charlton should win, but do not count your chickens, I expect my team to go all out for another upset which like Doncaster showed last year is more than possible. Surely Dowie must concentrate on the league otherwise Charlton could go down.

maybe Everton and maybe Villa on the AH.
I'll wait for the toffee members to stick up their thoughts
I wouldn't touch Chesterfield either , City laid seige against Charlton on saturday so they aint exactly a form team. If citeh had a striker at the club we would have won.

You've confused me there, Keemanan (it's easily done, don't worry ). From what I can tell you're saying Charlton were pretty poor against City on Saturday, but you say you wouldn't touch Chesterfield? Have I misunderstood something?

Yeah, yeah, yeah

You fancy Chesterfield's chances, jbgb? I've got this idea in my head (well, by that I mean I'm sure I remember reading somewhere, but have no stats to back this up) that Charlton have a pretty poor cup record in recent years. Chesterfield were unlucky to lose (sorry ) at the weekend to the Gills, listened to the commentary, sounds like a draw would probably have been fairer. If I was going to back anyone in this game, I'd rather be on Chesterfield than on Charlton, I reckon.

Re: Carling Cup ( 7th - 8th Nov )

Do you think Charlton will want to be the next victim from Chesterfield ?

Chesterfield v Charlton
Chesterfield team news to follow later.
Charlton boss Iain Dowie may gamble on resting goalkeeper Scott Carson and top goalscorer Darren Bent.

Dennis Rommedahl (groin) is already ruled out and reserve keeper Thomas Myhre is missing, so Stephan Andersen could face the League One strugglers.

from BBC so take with a pinch of salt.......................

I can't see them taking this game lightly (charlton i mean) but i will not be touching this until the team news has been released.

Can anybody advise what the best price is btw on Charlton between Lads, Skybet and Stan James ?

According to Teamtalk Watford's squad look like this:

Watford (from): Lee, Doyley, DeMerit, Shittu, Stewart, Mackay, Powell, Mariappa, Smith, Mahon, Francis, Bouazza, Spring, Bangura, McNamee, Young, Henderson, Priskin, Jarrett, Chamberlain, Blizzard.

Re: Carling Cup ( 7th - 8th Nov )

Wait for teams news is all I can say on the Everton game. Im certain well be trying our best and putting out our best side or close to it but what of the Arsenal team? A complete reserve team? A mix? If they put out a complete reserve side then Everton look a decent price. We should be able to beat an Arsenal reserve side at home, however talented some of them may be.

I saw us go down live at higbury 3-1 to a complete Arsenal reserve side 2 years ago though in the same stage in the same tournament. Different story at Goodison though youd hope. Their best player that day was Quincy Owusu Abeyie, he was running rings around everyone, think they sold him to a Russian side.

I think any side Liverpool put out will turn over Birmingham. The Birmingham side lack any class and look nothing like the premiership side they once were.Imho this will be nothing more than a high tempo training session for Liverpool what ever team Rafa picks.

Birmingham have these players injured at the mo
Upson - Central Def
Dunn - Midfield
Forsell - Striker
