Re: SPL Weekend 30th/31st July

Hibs' young players matured a lot last season bigkegman and they did well. Season before they were pretty mediocre in general. Given that Dunfermline are much-weakened this season, Hibs should win. As usual though, you never know

Please just post vbookie bets witha bit of bold and we'll sort them out. No big deal but a worry. Be glad to throw it into the tipster challenge forum truth be told.

Re: SPL Weekend 30th/31st July

Cheers komp. Can I have my bank of 664pts on Rangers to outscore Celtic at 1.80.

Just so you don't miss it, though the blue colour was a tough decision for me

When does the comp finish? I've not had much chance to get in about it so might as well go for some double or nothing bets now.

Re: SPL Weekend 30th/31st July

Now then, good to be back, havn't really got involved here yet, but hopefully that will change starting from today. Been to busy in recent months but now the football has started again...

Thanks to everyone who pointed out the Old Firm Derby bet, that looks like value. Havn't looked at Hills for ages but if they keep coming up with crackers like this then that will have to change. Other than that the only team I really fancy to win today are Falkirk. Not a great set of matches today, looking forward to whrn the lower leagues start...

Anyways, good luck to everyone this season, punting wise and supporting

Good to see you Alex.

BOOKIES today are accused of running scared of a side who may turn up with no first-choice strikers. Motherwell boss Terry Butcher revealed earlier in the week he had only nine fit players.

His star pairing of David Clarkson and Richie Foran are suspended and fellow hitmen Jim Hamilton and Scott McDonald doubtful.

Yet bookies have slashed the Fir Park side's odds to win their SPL opener.

Why? They're facing Celtic, that's why.

After crumbling to a stunning 5-0 defeat in Slovakia in midweek, the industry can't trust Gordon Strachan's men - and who can blame them.

Four days ago anything but a victory for the Hoops against a team with such selection concerns would have been unthinkable. Now you've got to believe anything especially as Celtic won't relish returning to the scene of last season's title failure.

Totesport acted immediately after the Artmedia muddle to cut Well from 8-1 to 13-2.

But even that isn't the smallest price with Blue Square offering 11-2.

That, of course, means Blue Square are tops about Celtic and 4-9 compares favourably to 3-10 at Hill and Ladbrokes.

We'll find out at 12.30pm today if Strachan has lifted his troops - and my gut feeling is Celtic will scrape three points.

If they don't the title race could be over before it starts and the 4-6 which is generally available on Rangers to win the SPL will disappear.

I tipped Rangers to be champions last week and best advice is to back them to the hilt.

The beauty of a two-horse race is that you can always hedge your bet if Celtic improve. You can have 6-5 with totesport on the Parkhead men.

Rangers kick-off their campaign tomorrow at home to Livingston and this one looks a banker home.

The title-holders are a best 1-7 with firms including Blue Square while Paul Lambert's men are as big as 16-1. Gers are 3-10 with Hill minus one goal and 4-5 minus two.

Celtic are 8-11 minus one and 15-8 but considering the lack of goals in the side Well fans could try 10-11 on their men plus two with Hill.

In their mythical match bettingBoylesports have Rangers at evens to beat 2-1 Celtic with the draw 4-1 (Hill).

Here's one Rangers fans will love - 25-1 with Hill on their favourites winning all four Old Firm league clashes this season. Celtic are 33-1 with four draws 80-1.

To win most Old Firm clashes you can have 5-6 each of two with Paddy Power. They make Celtic 4-6 to lose more league games than Rangers (11-8) and Celtic are 8-15 to lose a league match before their Glasgow rivals (11-8) this season. After Livingston you can get 10-1 Inverness, 6-1 Aberdeen and 7-4 Celtic on first team to beat Rangers.

And following Livingston, it's 11-1 Dundee United, 12-1 Falkirk and 11-8 Rangers on first side to beat Celtic.

To go unbeaten the whole season Hill offer 8-1 Rangers and 10-1 Celtic.

Rangers are 11-4 to win their first four league games with Celtic 7-1. And Hill have cut Rangers from 13-2 to 6-1 to lift the Treble with Celtic 8-1.

Aberdeen remain favourites with most firms to finish top of the SPL without the Old Firm. They are 9-4 with Paddy Power who prefer George Burley's Hearts.

The Jambos are a best price 11-4 with VC Bet with Hibs 7-2 (Stan James) and Dundee United 16-1 with Hill. It's one-fifth the first three each-way so United look great value to finish in the top five.

At the other end of the table Falkirk are 11-5 to finish bottom with Livingston 11-4, Dunfermline 5-1 and Inverness 8-1. Although Inverness showed what a promoted side could achieve last season, it's going to be a tough season for the Bairns and I can't see them avoiding the drop.

Dundee United have been impressive pre-season and I'm taking them to beat an Aberdeen side with some injury concerns today.

The Arabs did well to sign Lee Miller and could have a good season if he combines with Stevie Crawford. United are 13-8 with Hill and SJ.

Hibs (8-13) should start where they left off last season and beat Dunfermline at home while the other games look too close to call.

Burley may have to settle for a draw at Kilmarnock and Falkirk will be happy with a point at home to Inverness

Re: SPL Weekend 30th/31st July

I think its best guys if we were to all keep our stakes low for the first few weeks and see how teams pan out. This is a major factor as to why people lose so much money at this time of month as people go with reputations from last season and who they "think" will do well this season.

I still find that scoring betting with Rangers and Celtic dodgy. It will be interesting to see what sort of side Strachan plays today and if it will be lots of changes or keep faith with most of the side from the hammering.

Celtic need a result today and i wouldn't be surprised to see themwalk out like 4 or 5 to nil victors.

Rangers up against Livi should have it all their own way but you never know how sides are going to react to new management etc.

Anyways - all the best for today lads. I hope for the love of god Celtic don't get done over today. Think i would have to top myself if they did again

Re: SPL Weekend 30th/31st July

As you know I am in no position to put forward what would be regarded as expert opinion but I like the look of Falkirk to beat ICT.

From what I gather ICT have injury problems and they have quite a small squad in the first place. Pre season should be no real guide but losing to Ross doesn't inspire confidence either.

2pts @ 2.50 Falkirk

Good luck everyone
