Re: Midweek Non-league 15/16/17

Cor blimey! 2.20 for Hereford looks like a possible bet

I went to watch us play yesterday and although it was the opening day of the season i came away thinking we're gonna win the league.

Hereford 4-0 Scarborough

Hereford enjoyed a second-half scoring spree to claim a comfortable home win.
The home side had the better of the first half and Guy Ipoua hit the woodwork twice before Dean Beckwith headed home on 64 minutes.

Ipoua added the second five minutes later with a close-range header from Jon Brady's cross while Ryan Green stroked home the third.

Substitute Daniel Carey-Bertram came off the bench to seal the win in the closing stages.

Here's how Cambridge Utd faired...

FGR 1 Cambridge Utd 0

Ten-man Forest Green held on to edge out Conference newcomers Cambridge.
The U's were on top for large periods of the first half but both Andy Duncan and Fola Onibuje were unable to beat keeper Ryan Clarke from close range.

And Rovers made the visitors pay when Scott Rendell headed home Matt Gadsby's cross four minutes after the restart.

Rovers had Abdou Sall sent off for a professional foul on 63 minutes but the U's failed to capitalise and Onibuje missed another good headed chance.

I'll put this one one my shortlist and go look into Accrington Stanley at 2.40

Accrington dont look as solid as first thought now and i'm now looking at Canvey Island @ 2.50 for a homw win against Aldershot.

Basingstoke and Tiverton anybody?

Just spent an hour going through the conference and i'm now on the North....

Solid shout that regaring Hereford and I'll probably be on them. I also liked your Stanley tip as newly promoted Altrincham got spanked by Stevenage at the weekend.

I'm currently eyeing up Vauxhall motors....

By the looks of thinks with 8 new players the shots are in a state. They aren't too happy about it on their forum. It's like your reading my mind Kop! Tamworth sounded great and if I can get evens on them I'll probably take it.

Re: Midweek Non-league 15/16/17

I was thinking of keeping my powder dry this midweek but it looks like Stan James are due another hammering.

They have Tamworth for evens and that will be quality bet. Weymouth will also be getting my support at evens. The gulf in class should show against newly promoted
Eastleigh.

Re: Midweek Non-league 15/16/17

In the Southern League I might double Merthyr and Kings Lynn. I don't know if I'd back against bath as Scott Patridge (ex brentford and Bristol City) grabbed a couple at the weekend as they got off to a 3-0 win. From reports tivvy were quality though.

Actually I'm in the process of having a bet on Banbury to beat grantham at evens. A solid 3-0 away performance at the weekend to newly promoted Yate Town (and the match report says it should of been more) whilst Grantham were getting turned over at home by the same scorline by Bath.

I've just realised I had 3 points on Hearts and not just the 1. Result. must've put it on drunk. So I'll kick my weeks bets off with 2 points on Banbury at evens. I'll follow this with a nibble on Weynouth at two points as well.....

Talked myself out of the double but really want to back Merthyr - 1.57 is too small unless I decide to have a 10 pointer....

Oh - heres a good links page for all you NL'ers....

Re: Midweek Non-league 15/16/17

I would advise caution with Aldershot and Canvey. Looking at both squads Aldershot's look alot stronger though out of all of the promotion favourites from the conference Aldershot's still look the least justifiable odds. If anything I'd be looking at the away win there as Terry Brown is an astute manager and they'll be coming out fighting on tuesday. Canvey only losing 1-0 to Accy isn't much of a shock because in McEviliy and Prendergast Accy have lost their two most influential forwards.

Morecambe, Accy & Exeter (possibly York) look decent bets to me but Hereford sticks out like a sore thumb. They have the quality and have the depth to change things if the game dictates. This is not a good game for Cambridge to have on the back of a defeat to an albeit improved FGR side.

Evens on Weymouth looks massive to me though I don't know much about Eastleigh. What do you think AMP?

Re: Midweek Non-league 15/16/17

Good post Frodo and welcome

Cambridge Utd v Hereford Utd, live on sky Tuesday.

My views on a couple of markets…

I’m only allowing myself a win single on Hereford but I’ve just looked at a couple of the other markets and from what I watched on Saturday think there is value in our back four for goal scorer bets

1st/last/anytime

Tony James 14/1 14/1 4/1

Our club captain comes forward for corners and has an impressive penalty scoring ratio for us

Dean Beckwith 33/1 33/1 9/1

A new signing who is almost as tall as Peter Crouch. Obviously comes forward for all our corners, scored and hit the bar from two of them on Saturday.

Tamika Mkandawire 33/1 33/1 9/1

Also comes forward for Corners and scored a few more than expected for us last season.

Ryan Green 40/1 40/1 12/1

Stays back at corners but does make some good runs into the box. Scored on Saturday

From the HT/FT market I favour Draw/Hereford (9/2)or even Cambridge/Hereford (28/1)

The reason I think like this is because I know G.Turner likes to be a little more cautious in the first half and he also likes to have a strong bench to bring better players on when we are in control in the second. Although we were the more dominant team in the first on Saturday we did go in at Half time 0-0.

I don’t think G.Turner will change it to much from the way we played at home, in fact we have been better scoring away from home over the past couple of seasons (63 away goals two seasons ago).

The above are not markets that I recommend but if you’re going to be taking an interest in the live game then these are just pointers for interest bets. As already said I’ll be taking Hereford on the win market, I see enough of us on Saturday to convince me that Cambridge Utd will have to be bloody good to get anything from us.

Re: Midweek Non-league 15/16/17

Reading the match reports from the weekend I will be having a small interest in WESTON in the Conf South this midweek. Whilst Weston conceeded two late goals to lose 3-0 on SAturday by all accounts they put Cambridge under some serious pressure after going behind early in the game- as usual reports suggest that Weston are 'well organised' and 'difficult to beat'. It was this organisation in particular that contributed to Weston's good home record last season (contrasting with their awful away record). They are up against Basingstoke who I expect to struggle this year. They did not excel whilst beating a struggling Dorchester side on Saturday.

So the 2.4 being offered by Gamebookers looks good to me

Also thinking of doubling up with Newport, but may just leave it as a win single.

Re: Midweek Non-league 15/16/17

IMO there's some cracking bets to be had over the next few days.

To address some of the questions raised - mainly by Frodo. I've already taken a couple of points on Weymouth to do the business against Eastleigh. After their promotion from the Ryman the buzz is that they're a mio-tableish side. They did loose their last PSf at home to Salisbury from the Southern division 1-0. It seems like they put up a decent second half display going down 1-0 to Hayes at the weekend. Both match reports say that they we're unlucky not to get a point.

The Terra's should be a different class of oposition on Wednesday. Being a full-time team and consisting of many players from higher levels i'm hoping their fitness will count. However, as the reports from the H&W game suggests, i fancy teams will sit deep and be happy with a point against Weymouth. However, I feel their may be some value in betting on Weymouth when they play away as the onus should really be on the home team.

The bet I'm really liking is Canvey at 2.5. It just seems that the shots have too many problems at the moment. I take your point regarding the quality of their squad - however they're carrying a lot of midfield injuries at the moment and are really light on strikers. From their forum the 8 dubutants didn't really play well as a team and defensive blunders cost them.

Their boss has this to say speaking about their last game and Tuesday:

"I wouldn't even look at Tim Sills coming on at half-time, he’s not ready yet and I haven’t got the facility to replace a Tim Sills and replace a Gary Holloway and a Steve Watson, if I put those out there today I’ve got a different team. But I haven’t got them so I can’t use them as an excuse, and I won’t have them on Tuesday or next week. So we’ve got to formulate a system or a side that is a bit stronger defensively, and we’ll look at one or two options that we’ve got open to us."

It also sounded a hard fought victory for Stanley at the weekend against Canvey and their forum is no where near as downhearted as the shots on. The under's market (bearing the above comments) could maybe be one to keep an eye on.

In other news I'll be following Kop's Hereford tip for a couple of points. I like their confidence in contrast to Rob Newman's (Cambridge boss) comments regarding their prospects.

I'm already on Accrington for a point. I agree that they sounded no great shakes against Canvey but I believe that Altrincham will struggle against an established conference side after making the step up from the north. o.k, they played class oposition inb Stevenage but they didn't have a single goal attempt until stoppage time and Stevenage missed a penalty.

Good Luck All,

AMP

Good stuff again AMP, Kop and Frodo (plus others!).

I am on Banbury and Weymouth for a little punt on Tuesday night. Can anyone tell me where I will be able to get final scores for these games?

Re: Midweek Non-league 15/16/17

BBC Vidiprinter. Sky also does in running (I think) and definitely half times / full-times for both. I'll be up and about so I'll post the results.

The list for me goes on.....Newport at Maidenhead (as mentioned earlier) have some solid claims at 11/8 (skybet). Last season's strugglers Maidenhead are in for a tough seaon again after slashing their wage buget as loosing to Sutton 4-1 at the weekend. They've also got problems in defense with the centre-back berths being filled by players playing out of position due to injuries and waiting for international clearance for a new signing (which I think he has now). They are another "re-built" team with 8 debutants last weekend - some fans think they're even worse than the bunch that finished 3rd bottom (and escaped relegation on a technicallity) last season.

Newport beat struggling Carlshalton (who with Maidenhead I will oppose at every viable opportunity) 4-1 at the weekend and put in an impressive display. Newport will have a big away following for this level and will seek to follow up the 2-0 win away from last season.

I'm in vast danger in having my bets too diluted. I do like having 1 or 2 "main bets" but I'm finding it difficult to seperate the 4 or 5 I've backed so far. I will sumarise this on Tuesday afternoon.

Good luck all,

AMP

I've gone for Canvey Island as well for the same reasons as you

Any thoughts on Forest Green. I read that they have now gone full time and perhaps their 1-0 win against Cambridge was therefore no surprise.

Tamworths win at Aldershot may have flattered them to some extent for the reasons that we have already uncovered
