Re: English Prem 1st/2nd October

Saturdays games

Blackburn v West Brom 1.80
Inconsistent isn't the word with Blackburn, but i have a slight incling for Blackburn now Bellamy is back, since his return they have looked more comfortable up front and it also give Dickov a wee bit of space to do what he does best i.e annoying defenders and and creating space for Bellamy to run in. No savage but a goal will probably decide this as West Brom have only scored once on the rd to date.

Charlton v Tottenham 1 @ 2.50
Not much in this one but form wise i think Charlton will edge , there flying at the moment and have become a sound defensive out fit only conceding 3 in the prem and 2 of them to Chelsea, Chartton took all the points last yr from spurs if i remember right so know how to play em and Curbishley has no injury worrys so can field an unchanged side that beat West Brom last wee.
Spurs got off to a flyer but though not wobbling seem to be looking a bit jaded of late especially up front, they have some cracking players but i have a feeling Charltons work ethic will edge this by the odd goal.

Fulham v Man Utd
Obviously have to fancy United but current form does not instill confidence in me to back them, havent looked the same defensively since Heinze was injured and theres nothing to stop Fulham doing a Blackburn on them.
No bet for me

Portsmouth v Newcastle 2 @ 2.40
Felt confident about Newcastle earlier on in the week but the more i thought about it the less of a bet it became as even though they have won 2 on the bounce nothing in there play really shone especially last week against City as like stuart pearce said we showed them to much respect when the game was there for the taking.
Since midweek Pompey seem to have a few players out especially ex Newcastle players Lualua and Robert which is a huge bonus for Newcastle as we know they always do come back and haunt you (watch Obrien get the winner), now looking @ the team sheets Newcastle edge it by a distance so i'll have a wee shufty on them.

Sunderland v West Ham 2 @ 2.75

I like the look of this one a lot Sunderland may have got there first win for Donkeys but West Ham have caught my eye this yr and have the sort of team who will turn Sunderland over if they rest on their laurels Seem to be hitting the net for fun up front and spread the scoring out too though Harwood sems on fire, they also have Sheringham who though is getting on still has the potential to run a game and give West ham that extra edge to beat a team Like Sunderland.

Wigan-Bolton HOME WIN

I wasn't impressed with Boltons performance against Plovdiv in Midweek and were lucky to get through, thanks to a joke of goal.

Bolton may also turn up to wigan a bit leg weary. Wigan to sneak it 1-0

Re: English Prem 1st/2nd October

Have to go along with Charlton again.

Much the same write up as last week and Slick has also mentioned a few relevant points that I would bring up. Anyway, here we go. 2nd in the league and this is an excellent position considering they have only played 6 games (majority have played 7). Also excellent considering they have played 4 of 6 away from home and as mentioned, Chelsea are the only side to take anything from them this season. Defensively solid and scoring goals each week. They look a good confident settled side to me at the moment.

Spurs started with promise with 2 2-0 wins but after that they went through a run of 4 games not winning and only 1 goal (at Villa) in those 4 games. From what I remember of the Villa game, they had numerous chances to bury Spurs but couldn't put the ball in the net a 2nd time. Spurs did miss a penalty (I think) but Villa looked the better side overall.

A 1-0 home win over Fulham does not convince me they are "back" but the one thing in their favour is that they have had a consistantly good defence this season with only 3 conceded in 7 games.

Betdirect come out with a price of 2.60 on Charlton (a little higher on the exchanges but thats not taking comm into account) while is it again noticeable that Laddies are ducking Charlton (like the did at WBA) and are bottom of the pile, only going 2.10. 2.60 is good enough for me, Charlton are only this price as they are not a "name", if this was someone like Liverpool, Newcastle or Spurs with the current Charlton form I would argue they would be approaching odds on.

1pt Charlton at 2.60 with Betdirect

Re: English Prem 1st/2nd October

I not sure about Charlton Crowie, They seem to crumble against teams with any kind of quality in them. Tottenham have quality that can hurt Charlton even though they are in a slight dip in form. Charlton have had a very easy start and are in a false position.

Tottenham at 2/1 looks tempting

Spurs dont seem to do it away from home dont you think powpp? Maybe a little more than 2/1 would be in order. Not a match I can call.

Your right christianu, tottenhams away form is a concern but I just think Chalrton are due a downturn. There've been up at the top too long now and I feel its time for them to start thier journey back towards midtable. I think 2/1 for Jols boys isn't a bad price

Re: English Prem 1st/2nd October

Its a toughie to call as are all the Prem games this week i feel. I got a fancy for a lot of draws this week actually but aint gonna back up my feeling cos theres no method to its madness. I reckon bar Arsenal all the Sunday games look like draws.

If I had to back this game Id rather be backing Charlton than Spurs.

No, I would agree with you that Tottenham do have a few quality players Powpp. However they look like a set of individuals at the moment and Jol doesn't seem to know what's his best front line, midfield or defence for that matter where as Charlton look a good settled side.

Its the price thats attracted me to Charlton though, as I said, I reckon if it was a "named" side with Charltons form so far, the sort of side who everyone considers backing each week then they wouldn't be much above 2.00.

GL though even if you do go with Spurs Mind you, I thought everyone knew that Charlton don't crumble til at least March

Re: English Prem 1st/2nd October

I cant see Charlton Crumbling, they have been in the top flight now far to long for that.
There a team and play as a team not as many stars as Spurs i agree but we only have to look @ Madrid to see havent great players doesent necesarily result in a great team.
Charlton may and probably will eventually drop down the league but as long as they keep working for each other they will be a hard team to beat and on current form i'll give em the edge over Spurs who have only themselves played Chelsea to date quality wise and also went down 2-0, Liverpool too but there league form is hardly great and they didnt beat them.
I do like the look of the Korean fella mind who is proving to be quite a handful and they do look better now King is back but like i have said overall Charlton nudge it for me as they all work hard for each other and do have home advantage.

Anyhow come on the Hammers its where my main bet is at, really fancy em for this one. Still up on the day after Southend won so might bung a wee bit extra on em @ 3's betfair.

Cheers slick, I thought it was a gonna at 2-0 as well, but I have just brought my self down from the ceiling after fulltime.

Still mulling over Wigan to beat Bolton. I might take my money and run for this weekend though.
