Re: Traeth's Welsh Thread - 7th/8th/9th Oct

Been Looking into this tentavely (sp -Alien?) Komp after reading around the HaverdfordWest financial crisis.

They got knocked out of the cup to a lower leauged team from what I gather last time out and that's lead to the knives being sharpened:

Welsh Premier football is an expensive business these days, and Haverfordwest County decided last week, at an emergency general meeting, that it would be better to manage their present financial crisis, rather than simply sit back and, like Barry Town, run the risk of going under.

This season gates are down and performances and the side’s league position are down. Accordingly the management decided last week to ask all of the playing staff to take a wage cut. First signs are promising because most seem ready to accept this. There are a few doubts over the future of Colin Loss and Lee John, although, at the time of writing on Monday morning, neither had actually left the club.

It is now a matter of loyalty, morale and determination, and of course Saturday’s disappointing result against Goytre didn’t help. But a week is a long time in football and a good showing against Rhyl on Saturday next would perk things up no end. Fans who would like to help at least to put the attendance drop in order will be very welcome at the Bridge Meadow for a 2.30 kick-off.

Lee John and Colin Loss are believed to among the casualties of financial cut backs at Vauxhall Masterfit Retailers Welsh Premier club Haverfordwest County after failing to appear in the Welsh Cup line-up.

Player-manager Deryn Brace received the news from his board ahead of the tie with Goytre United, and Saturday's early exit from the cup at the hands of the Welsh Leaguers will hardly improve the cash situation.

"I've got to keep my chin up, it's one of those times when I could easily just walk away from the club," said Brace.

"But Haverfordwest is in my blood and I always vowed I would only leave with the club in a better position that when I arrived."

The Bluebirds' fortunes have dipped alarmingly since qualifying for the UEFA Cup in 2004 and finishing fourth in the Welsh Premier last season and attendances have slumped by nearly 50% this season.

Midfielder John (pictured), who played in the successful Haverfordwest side that qualified for Europe in 2003/04, only returned to West Wales during the summer after moving back from Port Talbot Town and had been ever-present this season in league and cup.

Loss was a trainee with Brace at Norwich City and also spent time at Derby County, Gresley Rovers, Bristol City and Merthyr Tydfil before entering the Welsh Premier with Barry Town, where he won winning championship medals.

He also played with Carmarthen Town and Rhayader Town before linking up with Brace again at Haverfordwest in the summer of 2002.

My question would be is there any value in the 8/13 about Rhyl?

AMP Jones.

thanks komp and nice to see you here AMP , been busy lately and will be for a few days ,but will try to keep you updated on any news.
No tips with me last in the T.C.

CLUBS IGNORE INTERNATIONAL CLASH

Quote:
WITH Welsh Premier attendances still hovering around last season's low levels, clubs would surely want to avoid a clash with a Welsh international next Saturday.
Not so. While the Dragons kick-off against Northern Ireland at 2.00 - televised live on the BBC - five clubs will stage league fixtures half an hour later.
In truth, stupidity can be the only word to describe the fixture clashes at Bangor, Haverfordwest, Newtown, Porthmadog and Port Talbot.
Haverfordwest announced financial cut-backs on Friday night - the New Bridge Meadow has seen a fall in gates of 49% this season and an attractive fixture with Rhyl would surely have improved the club's cash flow if moved to Sunday, for example.
The same applies at Port Talbot's Victoria Road, where the average gate this season is just 127.
Three games go-ahead on the Friday night, with leaders TNS hosting Cwmbran Town on Sunday.
But it seems that the league and its clubs just can't learn the lessons of previous seasons - or maybe they just don't care?

Financial problems for Cwmbran as well - £50 a game !Cwmbran are doing well but we could see some of the players leaving.

Quote:
HARD-UP Cwmbran Town remain defiant their financial woes can be overcome.
Although the Gwent club have gone public in admitting they have a cash problem, interim chairman Mike Lewis refused to confirm all players and staff are now only being paid £50 each.
"I couldn’t possibly divulge any details of the meeting I had with the players and staff regarding matters relating to the finances of the club," said Lewis.
"The meeting was held following last Tuesday’s training session when they accepted the situation put to them and agreed to certain financial restrictions until the situation can be clarified.
PLUS a reiteration of what amp has posted on Haverfordwest

HI Jonsey

that word value again - I have lost money on Rhyl in their last two league games. I saw them at my local club Porthmadog on Sunday 25 Sept . ,they outplayed Port but lost 2-1 .A defensive error - and great finishing by Port and a terrible penalty decision against an offside player.

komp -re Llanelli - they lack experience but have bought another Spaniard.

Quote:
FIFTH SPANIARD JOINS LLANELLI

Peter Nicholas hopes a fifth Spaniard will help his Llanelli outfit rediscover their goal touch.
THREE Welsh Premier defeats on the trot have prompted Llanelli to add a fifth Spaniard to their squad.
Francisco Jose Dominguez Rodriguez, a 32 year old from Sevilla, has been playing in the Spanish Second Division for Algeciras.
He joins fellow countrymen Rudy Torres, Efren Fernandez, Jacob Mingorance and Ivan Nofuentes alongside director of football Lucas Cazorla Luque.

Friday's matches

Caernarfon v Newi Cefn Druids
I like Caernarfon when they play at home , but they were unlucky against Airbus in their last home game where they lost 0-1 , they have drawn their two away games.
Cefn have drawn 4 out of 6 games losing to new boys Grange ,in recent games Cefn were lucky in 1-1 draw against 4th placed Rhyl , but produced an upset when they beat 2nd placed Newtown 3-0 .

h2h
2005-03-09 Caernarfon 2-0 Newi CD
2004-12-03 Newi CD 0-1 Caernarfon
2004-04-23 Newi CD 1-3 Caernarfon
2003-12-05 Caernarfon 3-2 Newi CD

I will try to get some team news before Friday

Llanelli v Aberystwyth

Llanelli were the gamblers favourite at the start of the season ,but have lost three on the trot .They have the class Spanish players and have bought another.
Aber have drawn 4 out of 6 , losing 4-1 to Rhyl and beating 2nd placed Newtown 1-3 away which surprised me and many others.

last season's h2h are below ,but Llanelli were a totally different side then

2005-02-25 Llanelli 2-4 Aberystwyth
2004-10-15 Aberystwyth 2-0 Llanelli

Welshpool Town v Airbus

Airbus are playing Rhyl in the cup tonight , will wait on the result of that before making any comment.

TNS are firing on all cylinders after a sluggish start. They beat Newtown 6-1 last night [ Tuesday ] in the cup.

Last night cup resiult
Airbus UK 3 - 2 Rhyl FC
James McIntosh (p) 70' 60' Andy Moran (p)
Craig Jones 101' 115' Andy Moran (p)
James McIntosh 103'

Airbus win in extra time , Airbus had lost at home to Rhyl in their opening game of the season. Rhyl inconsistant run makes betting on them a lottery.

COLIN Loss is the first confirmed departure from cash-strapped Haverfordwest County.
The 32-year old midfielder has returned to Southern League Merthyr Tydfil and was named in the Martyrs' squad for tonight's FAW Premier Cup tie at Cwmbran Town.
A trainee with Haverfordwest player/boss Deryn Brace at Norwich City, Loss also spent time at Derby County, Gresley Rovers and Bristol City before entering the Welsh Premier with Barry Town, winning championship medals.
Cwmbran
FAW PREMIER CUP 1ST ROUND
Wed 05 Oct 2005 Cwmbran Town 1-0 Merthyr Tydfil
Paul Bonar 22'

CWMBRAN grabbed a massive financial lifeline with FAW Premier Cup victory at home to Southern League Merthyr Tydfil.

Match report here
Quote:
Oct 6 2005 Western Mail
Cwmbran 1-0 Merthyr

CASH stricken Cwmbran Town improved their bank balance with a superb FAW Premier Cup first-round victory over Southern League Premier Division high flyers Merthyr Tydfil last night.
The all-important goal arrived in the 22nd minute when, after excellent work by Kris Thomas, Paul Bonar fired home a stylish 12-yard drive.
Merthyr's best opportunity came directly from the restart when Jason Welsh rattled the woodwork.
With three of their former players in the Merthyr line-up Cwmbran showed a huge appetite and held on for victory.

Caernarfon v Cefn Druids

A report that I agree with

Quote:
TOMORROW night (Friday) sees a battle between two side who struggled in the league last season but have had very positive starts to this campaign.
Caernarfon and Cefn Druids may have been among many people's tips for a relegation struggle but so far both teams have shown themselves to be more than capable of getting into the upper mid-table positions.
They certainly have contrasting styles of play.
While Caernarfon have improved defensively, they have stood out most for their clever approach play and the cutting edge in front of goal that they so often lacked last term.
Cefn on the other hand have looked to stifle their opponents and grind out results.
Dixie O'Neil's team have picked up four draws from their first six games and conceded just seven goals.
They had been struggling to score but, in their last league outing, they defeated second-placed Newtown 3-0 at home.
They also scored three on Saturday in their 3-2 Welsh Cup victory over Summerhill Brymbo yet Caernarfon will take comfort from the fact it took a goal in extra-time to get the Druids past their lower level opponents.
Caernarfon will go into Friday's match as favourites and will be boosted by their relatively comfortable victory at Holyhead Hotspur where they sidestepped a genuine banana skin to win the game 3-1.
Caernarfon don't need to look down the table at this stage of the season and can show some ambition.
They are just three points off third place but Waynne Phillips would probably be delighted if his team could break into the top six and stay there for a while.
If that were to happen, they would be in a perfect position come the business end of the season.

Caernarfon only need to play as well as they have done so far and they will get maximum points on Friday

2004-05-01 Carmarthen 1-4 Bangor City
2003-12-13 Bangor City 2-2 Carmarthen

this is my bet for the weekend
Bangor City v Carmarthen @ 5.00 with bet365

Bangor's first win was gained because of a very doubtful penalty against Porthmadog and then a 6-0 against last but one Caersws. The win against Welshpool that Carmarthen got persuaded me.
Port Talbot have drawn all their league games.

Porthmadog played very poorly in the cup last week .They appear to be better playing the top clubs. No bet as the price does not tempt me.

Haverfordwest are having their problems but Rhyl are not inspiring me at that price yet - wait on tomorrow's news.

Caernarfon v Newi Cefn Druids

I think that Caernarfon's home advantage will make this a home win.

Quote:
IT will be a case of master against pupil tonight when Wayne Phillips' Caernarfon Town take on Newi Cefn Druids, managed by former Wrexham boss Dixie McNeil.
"It will be great to meet Dixie again," said Phillips, who has half-a-dozen former Wrexham pros with him in the Canaries' camp..
"But this will be one of those nights when the three points will matter most of all, even more so than the performance.
"Three points will keep us up there with the best in the league - we have a lot to fight for."
Phillips watched Druids beat Newtown 3-0 the other week, and was impressed.
"It will not be easy for us," he added. "They have some excellent players, including Martyn Chalk, who was with us last season - and there is Dixie, of course."
Town welcome back forward Gavin Allen from injury, but fellow attacker Marcus Orlik and midfielder Robbie Williams remain out.
Ex-Wrexham goal ace Lee Jones, who took a kick on a leg during the Welsh Cup win at Holyhead Hotspur last weekend, is rated as 50-50.
Druids have lost just once in six league games this season, but joint boss McNeil admits their defensive improvements will be put to the test tonight.
"We're more organised this season, we've worked hard and have shown the right attitude," he said..
"But the key has been that we've been defending well. If you can keep games tight, then you've always got a chance."
The visitors, however, have a couple of injury concerns with forward Darren Williams doubtful with a hamstring strain while midfielder Paul Mazzarella, who scored the winner in last Saturday's 3-2 Welsh Cup success at Summerhill Brymbo, is also struggling with a knock.

Re: Traeth's Welsh Thread - 7th/8th/9th Oct

Llanelli v Aberystwyth

No bet for me here

Quote:
Aberystwyth Town aim to prove a tougher proposition on the road at Llanelli tonight.
Aberystwyth were beaten 3-0 by their Stebonheath Park hosts in the Loosemores Challenge Cup back in August.
But player-boss David Burrows hopes his side can learn their lessons as they strive to become a tougher nut to crack.
"Away from home we've got to be tougher and more disciplined," he said..
"We were well beaten by Llanelli at the start of the season, but I've watched them a few times since and we can tailor our style of play to get the better of them." Midfielder Glyndwr Hughes is still out while skipper Bari Morgan is doubtful with a calf strain he sustained last weekend.
While Aber have been pretty tight defensively, there are still concerns about their strike rate as illustrated by their 2-0 Welsh Cup win against Bettws last Saturday.
"It was pretty comfortable, but we had enough chances to have won by seven or eight," admitted Burrows..
"We're getting into good positions but just not putting the ball into the net."
