Re: Weekend Non-league

I agree Burt. I remember Burton going to Barnet and winning last season and winning and theyve beat Exeter at theres already this season. Dunno what it is about them but they seem to raise it against the top sides. As you say you did beat Stevenage 3-1 last game as well which shows youre scoring goals, something which Hereford certainly arent, although Hereford are pretty mean at the back it has to be said.

Hereford have been held at home by Canvey (atrocious away team last season), Gravesend and Altrincham already this season. My 'Jays lays' system also chucked this selection up as well and I may dabble with it yet as I dont think Hereford should be odds on all things considered.

Underrated Accrington can prove their title credentials .... Dan Childs

Accrington Stanley, 4pts 9-4 (Blue Square)
York City, 4pts 8-11 (general)

THE KIDS in the famous milk advert didn’t have toomuch respect for Accrington Stanley, but the Merseysiders are major players in the Conference promotion race this season and they are worth punting at 9-4 to beat Stevenage at Broadhall Way today.
Accrington closed the gap on leaders’ Grays to just a point with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Hereford last Saturday and it is a shade surprising that Ladbrokes and Stan James are still offering 10-1 about John Coleman’s men lifting the title.
Stanley forwards David Brown and Ian Craney have featured heavily in the Lancastrians’ storming start to the campaign – the duo have bagged 12 goals between them this season.
And the pair could get plenty of joy out of a Stevenage back-line which is without the powerful presence of central defender Jason Goodliffe.
Goodliffe, who picked up a knee injury in Stevenage’s 1-1 draw at Canvey Island on September 27, was badly missed in last Saturday’s 3-1 loss at Burton.
Goodliffe’s replacement Barry Laker was withdrawn after just 32 minutes at the Pirelli Stadium and coach Graham Westley must decide whether to give Laker another opportunity or deploy former Spurs trainee Ron Henry in an unfamiliar defensive role.
Boro also have problems up front due to an injury to top scorer Anthony Elding.
And while Stevenage’s squad is stretched, Accrington have bolstered their options by signing Wigan midfielders’ Kevin Lee and Philip Edwards on loan deals.
And Stanley are further boosted by the return from suspension of Robbie Williams and the availability of Benin midfielder Romuald Boco.
York City have got their act together after making sweeping changes to the club’s playing personnel in the summer and they should confirm odds-on status by beating Canvey Island at Kit Kat Crescent.
The Minstermen demonstrated their promotion credentials with a stunning 4-2 victory over Exeter in their last home game.
City’s problem is a tendency to concede too many late goals. Five of the goals scored against York have arrived in the 88th minute or later. But Billy McEwan’s back-line may be strengthened by the return of Nathan Peat.
Canvey have picked up just two points from their last four away matches and they are weakened by a suspension to midfielder John Kennedy.

A bit late, but a cracking bet none-the-less.

Bromley to beat Ashford Town (Kent) @ 2.10 (bet365)

I wasn't sure how seriously Bromley would be taking this game (with matches at home to Aldershot in the FA Cup and AFC Wimbledon in the league next Saturday and Tuesday), but team news shows that other than injuries this is a full strength side.

Bromley are unbeaten in 9 (all competitions), with 6 wins and 3 draws. Opponents Ashford have won just twice all season, and are struggling a divsion below Bromley.

It seems that Bromley are going all out for the win, to avoid a replay in the build up to an important week.

Oops, doidn't see that thread. I blame whoever didn't make it a sticky.

Interstingly, Skybet fo 500/1 for Bromley to win the Trophy, with AFC Wimbledon 50/1. Given that Bromley are as good if not better than AFC Wimbledon, you have to wonder what the odds compilers are thinking. Realistically neither are going to win, but the difference is ridiculous.

Remarkable, Bromley 750/1 at bet365, with AFC Wimlbedon still 50/1. Anyone who follows non-league football even slightly knows that AFC Wimbledon are finding things tougher at this level, and there's 2 levels above them that are in this competition.

Southport look a nice price to do Altrincham at home. Altrincham relying on getting bodies behind the ball and have score just 3 times in the last 6. Southport are finding their feet a bit now and have just the one defeat in the last five. Low scoring draw saver if that's your style. Actually even though I'm not a fan of the bet the under is available at 1.94 on Betfair and that's not bad value seeing as Altrincham have scored just 3 times in the last eight...

Called this a bit wrong as Altrincham won 1-0 but the unders bet won.

Aldershot are looking a nice price to beat floundering Kiddeminster now they're getting some confidence and injured players back. I'll just check Betfair.....Nothing doing.

Aldershot won 1-0.

Unbeaten Grays looked nailed on to heap more misery on Scarboro and I'll keep them in mind for doubling with something as I work my way down through these league.

Grays won 5-0.

Moving on to the North the 'Vics look good value at 1.85 to do away with Worcester - bottom of the form guide against top here and sorry Worcester have scored just 5 times in the last 6 compared to the freescoring Vics 23. They've also lost their last two home games and if it wasn't for the Cup I'd be tempted to have a medium sized single on that one.

my cup bets better have won as the Vics oblidge Muze and win again 1-0

Moving on to the South I think Farnboro are overpriced at 5/2 at Histon. Boro have some good results of late and whilst Histon are riding high in the league they've been getting results without particulary playing well. Plus they failed to beat Carlshalton away last time which cost me some money!!!!

Farnboro won 6-3!!! What a game.

Another recent let-down Yeading should overturn the poor from Newport County for the nice price of 11/8 when Evens would be more of a fair price.

Yeading won 3-1.

If you're into getting some form of revenge out of Eastbourne Boro then backing against them ar Weymouth could be the way forward. Boro really struggled to beat injury hit Chelmsford from the league below and although decidely dodgy away the terra's are strong at home now and starting to gel. A terrible price but if a short odds home double is your price I'd be confident in Weymouth and Grays at a combined odds of 2.16.

That double came in as Weymouth won 2-1 so ODM things are looking better but their away form needs to pick up.

Anyone having a bet in these sections?
