Re: FA Cup Weekend 4-6th Nov

Sorry if this has gon. If it comes back we can mix it. I never knew it was the FA Cup proper. I love this round. Sorry if anything i mention was previously covered.

Wrexham won 2-0 at Port Vale in April and were undefeated v them last year. 4/1 looks big to me. Southend and Oxford i could like.

Burnham v Aldershot is a bit derbish aint it? Aldershot anyone? Grimsby beat Bristol Rovers not long ago whilst Yeovil have never beaten Macclesfield (3w 1d)

Boston? anyone?

Blackpool i could like at that price after beating Doncaster there in the league a couple of months ago.

Aye im excited

Re: FA Cup Weekend 4-6th Nov

Quality,

Cheers komp was unsure whether to repost or wait....

A few more books are out now like Stan James and the Tote so i've had a few bets away tonight.

The first one is Oxford United away to Eastbourne Boro 8.5 pts @ 1.72 (Bet365)

There are two divisions effectively seperating these teams. Oxford united do have problems scoring away from home but Eastbourne Boro have managed to scrape it into the first round proper by the skin of their teeth. A decent Conf South team last season this season has been beset by injuries and although they have resolved somewhat their form has not.

They've won just the one home game in five and that was against the crisis hit Newport County. Currently they are fourth bottom with three teams with very poor starts beneath them.

Yeovil 6/5 away at Macclesfield 3 pts

Well, the tale of the two Div 2 challengers last season couldn't have been different. Macclesfield have started extremely badly and their first win in 9 came at home to Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

Like their promoted colleagues Yeovil have done well after stepping up to Div 1 and have recovered from the loss of Gary Johnson (whether GJ has recovered from inheriting a piss-head, underperforming squad at BCFC remains to be seen..). I fancy Yeovil to provide a test for the majority of teams away in Div 1 so the 2.2 on them away to a Div 2 side is mighty tasty considering they were last season and pressumably won't be afraid to buckle up the shin pads and get stuck in.

Swansea away to Stockport - 3 pts @ Evens

Stockport are draw merchants and Swansea are on fire. Evens might not be a great price but Swansea have scalped Colchester, Wallsall, MK Dons and Bournemouth on their sacred burial grounds as they've war danced their way to 2nd in Divison one (and aye Runtcrab BCFC 7-1 ). Stockport don't impress me too much and no doubt they're still recovering from the leper's touch of peahead Palmer.

Southport v Woking 7/4 3 points

Both play in the conference. Woking unbeaten in 9 and have beat their opponents 1-0 at home earlier on in the season.

Southport are fighting but sruggling a tad after their promotion from the Naughty North. their home forms not bad but as a rule they generally loose to the better sides in this division and i'd just about include Woking in this bracket. I'd go 11/8 or 6/4 so the 7/4 IMO is very puntable.

I will also be having a few bets on outsiders. Weymouth at 10/1 will be good for 2 quid. Boston away to the poor Swindon for 11/4 stands out also.

More later.

Re: FA Cup Weekend 4-6th Nov

Yeah komp - a fewposts were lost in this thread but not many.

I got stung last time betting against Burnham against Canvey Island. Canvey Island are above the 'shots in the league and more than matched their illustrious opposition over the two ties, even with 10 men in the replay for the entire second half...At those prices I'm gonna give it a swerve.

I like Boston, unbeaten in 9 or so. A few draws but Swindon are coming apart at the seems and 11/4 seems very generous and I'm sure will have a few backers on here.

I know nothing about Burnham bar it proabably being near Burnham Beaches. They can't be that good surely? You saying Canvey are considered below them Amp?

Canvey have gave league teams probs in their time. Wasnt it them that took Charlton to a replay in about 2001? actually i need to have a look at this just to give me some perspective.

Re: FA Cup Weekend 4-6th Nov

Komp,

Burnham are punching above their weight like Eddie the Eagle taking on Evander Hollyfield. On Paper last season's football league chasers Aldershot are a shoe-in at 8/11 or whatever the price is.

Unfortunately I thought this when giving 5 points to Canvey in the last round to beat Burnham. Burnham are three league's below the shot's but in the league they're on a great run (as with the FA cup). If you read the Canvey Island match reports ( The point I was trying to make is that Canvey are above Aldershot in the league) and both forums odds of under evens for the 'shots win don't seem that appertizing.

Kop66 - your boys have got a hard task away at Cambridge City. Is Hereford's poor away form set to continue?

Re: FA Cup Weekend 4-6th Nov

Personally I like walsall but I read something earlier that made me think twice....it was in the RFO but I've not got it on me now, but I'll have a look.
Liked Yeovil first up like AMP, & I thought Gillingham & Torquay looked decent odds.
Might look at Dagenham & Hereford, & Rushden have a new striker dont they ??

Chippenham & Worcester looks worth a shout according to the RFO......1 division apart I think, Worcester are higher, Chippenham are 100% at home, Worcester yet to win away

Re: FA Cup Weekend 4-6th Nov

Carlisle @ Cheltenham 9/5

I've not decided on this one yet but have a few things to consider. Cheltenham are in a slump at the moment and also not playing well by all accounts. They're struggling up front where supposed saviour Gary Bradshaw will be either cup-tied or suspended. Carlisle fresh of the back of a 6-0 thumping of Stockport in the league and whilst the form guide may not necessarily show it I'm told they look bang in form which makes them too long at 9/5. As if you needed any further indication as to whether this is a decent bet, Carlisle have also already won 3-2 @ Whaddon Road this season.

Not sure about team news / suspensions yet but I'd expect that price could be around for a while. Just picked up this from a Cheltenham fan too

Captain out and now grant mccann out, both our best central midfield players,we havent a chance.
Scunthorpe, Chesterfield and Chippenham are worth a look too I think.

Re: FA Cup Weekend 4-6th Nov

I agree Swoops with the Chippenham shout and this season has been part of my punting education.

In this competition over the past few rounds the bookies have given odds like 6/5 on the team from the the league below (Chippenham v Newport County springs to mind actually and from memory they were around the 11/8 mark then) and I think they're being incredibly tight so I don't bet even though i think they'll win and ineveitiably they do.

Anyway, Chippenham I expect will go close at that price but I'd prefer more dis-proportinate propositions at the same price - if that makes any sense...One glass of vodka to go....

Re: FA Cup Weekend 4-6th Nov

Spot on on Woking AMP and ive nothing more to add to that, they should be very slight favourites imo.

HALIFAX 2 bt Rushden @ 13/8 (Bet365)

Odds are bang out of line I think. Look at the 5/4 from WilliamHill to get the accurate picture. They are definite home favourites in my book.

Halifax are a good conference team who have a great home record and the same went for last season when I backed them regularly. They are 6-1-0 thus far, scoring 12 conceding 2. Clearly great stuff and they basically never fail to score at home.

Rushden I would say are a poor League 2 team and they nearly went down last season. Their league away record is 1-3-4, scoring 6 conceding 11. After a fair start theyve been really quite poor recreating the struggling toil of last season.

On those 6 home games Halifax have won, they beat York and Cambridge Utd (both of which went down last season from League 2) and also Hereford as well. I would class these teams as not much different in standard to Rushden. I dont think Rushden would be any more than a decent side in the conference and you can bet your bottom dollar Halifax wouldnt be even close to 13/8 if that were the case.

An added note is that Halifax beat Bury (a team similar in stature in league 2 to Rushden) at home 6-1 in the Ldv Vans a few games ago.

I hope I dont regret this comment but I really dont see Halifax losing this. This also makes bet365s offer of 10/11 for the Halifax draw no bet a real tempter.

Re: FA Cup Weekend 4-6th Nov

Gillingham's injury crisis is reaching ridiculous proportions now. We already had 8 players out before yesterday's game, and yesterday Paul Smith got food poisoning and Tom Williams limped off injured during the game, so we'll potentially be without 10 players for the weekend (not sure yet whether any are due to be back in time for Saturday, will check nearer the time).

I know some of the non-leaguers were talking up Burscough last weekend, and with the form Gillingham are in and the injuries we've got, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of a shock in this one .

Re: FA Cup Weekend 4-6th Nov

Nice info RC.

Only problem I see is that the bookies seem to have somewhat included this into their odds. 4/1 for a team 4 divisions below is more than a bit stingy, Burscough are 2 steps below the conference. Theyre also better away from home it seems.

Re: FA Cup Weekend 4-6th Nov

Saw this in the RFO & thought its worth a look:

Peterborough v Burton

Burton only won 1 in the first 9 games in the conference but they had a lot of injuries in the first 2 months & are 3-1-2 since. That run started at Exeter when the hosts were top.
Mark Wright apparently has a bit of a reputation for not taking cup ties seriously whilst at Chester.
Boro have just let a 2 goal lead slip @ Wycombe, & only Stockport have won fewer at home in div 2.
Boro have only scored 6 in 7 at home. Boro should win, but reading this Laddies 6/1 makes Skybets 13/2 & corals 6/1 look large

Swoops

Walsall 9 players out and an 18 year old keeper who has only just turned professional.

Any chance of an upset here?
