Re: Non League midweek 21/22/23 Nov inc. FA Vase

fa vase stanway rovers 11-4 at broxbourne replay, 1st game 5-5 aet!!! stanway played 13, won 11, drew 1 lost 1 in ridgeons div1, one step lower than broxbourne who are in the spartans south midlands, just above mid table.the ridgeons league is a stronger league than most and has got the most clubs still left in the competition. no team news but 11-4 looks good value imo and worth a punt

Not happy about this. Welling have rested their top striker Kedwell. They should still have too much for Basingstoke but its a bit annoying

NB - Welling just gone 1-0 down

Re: Non League midweek 21/22/23 Nov inc. FA Vase

Well, I've never seen odds on Alvechurch before Bromsgrove ?? You know anything about these boys ??

Its where I'm from as I've played cricket for alvechurch for 20 years. I know the groundsman at the footie club so will try & have a word tomorrow daytime & try & get team strength. I know nothing about Buxton tbh but the weather tonight & tomorrow isnt great is it ?? Freezing fog & possibility of snow & presumably it was a frozen pitch that called it off in the first place. I would be amazed if Alvechurch are taking a full strength side up there tbh, staggered in fact, due to work commitments & it may be a touch on the short side but I would think Buxton are worthy favourites.
Those with longer memories, this is not the Alvechurch set up that always played pre-season friendlies v Birmingham, or that used to get close to the FA Cup proper, or where Alan Smith started, theyve been bust several times since & I know a few who've lost money in them due to that over the years.

Re: Non League midweek 21/22/23 Nov inc. FA Vase

Alvechurch view above, & also I found this for the original tie:

ALVECHURCH head to Buxton for a crucial FA Vase clash this weekend with manager Shaun Cunnington hoping to have skipper Keith Rostill back ... in attack!

The Lye Meadow boss was forced to field his star striker in goal on Saturday, something which Cunnington knows is unacceptable.

"I had a phone call from our regular keeper at around 12 noon saying he could not make the game because of an illness in the family," the manager explained.

"The youth team keeper was not available so we had to put Keith in goal. He has had a bit of experience playing there but it is not acceptable to be playing your star striker as a goalkeeper."

Robert Gregory scored the Church goal in their 2-1 defeat at Biddulph Victoria but the home side had already netted twice on their way to recording their first home league win of the campaign.

"We had enough chances to win the game but it wasn't to be," Cunnington added.

"I am now looking to bring in some new players and I have one or two options I will be pursuing this week."

...I know Rostill as I've played cricket with him & he is a decent footballer, pretty decent. He will definetly play I would think as he just bums from job to job connected with his football tbh, & its highly unlikely that he wont be allowed to play.

Re: Non League midweek 21/22/23 Nov inc. FA Vase

Well, I've found this in a local Buxton rag & theyre saying theyre parallel leagues & whatever but this lot sound quite decent & theyre up near the top:

Action in the Vase for fizzing Bucks
ON SATURDAY Buxton take time off from their promotion push to entertain Alvechurch in the FA Vase, 2nd Round, at the Silverlands, kick off 3pm.
Extra time will be played if necessary, with a possible replay arranged for next Tuesday, kick off KO 7.45 at Alvechurch, which lies adjacent to the junction of the M5/M42.

The visitors play their footballin the Midland Alliance, a league parallel in status to the NCEL.

If Buxton are successful, their opponents in the Third Round will be known on Monday, with the tie scheduled for Saturday December 10 – a date when three Buxton players will be suspended.

Stewart Copnell and Anton Foster, who is already cup-tied in 'the Vase', have accumulated five bookings and serve a seven-day suspension, while Sean Hutchinson serves 14 days for his dismissal against Pickering. All three bans begin on December 5.

Provided there is a positive result to Saturday's tie, next Wednesday on November 23, 'the Bucks' will be at home to Belper Town in a Derbyshire Senior Cup, second round tie, KO 7.45pm.

'The Nailers', managed by ex-Leek, Matlock and Hucknall team boss Ernie Moss, are currently in the relegation places in Division One of the Unibond League, the level above the NCEL in the non-league pyramid.

Meanwhile, manager Nicky Law has continued to add to his squad with the recruitment of two midfielders, one of whom, Michael Towey made his debut last Saturday as a half time substitute for Anton Foster.

Towey (21) is the brother of former Silverlands striker, Chris, and like the other new player Danny Hiner (27), has been playing in Sheffield amateur soccer.

Another boost for the management was the decision last week by fit-again striker Jonathan Froggatt to stay at the Silverlands despite an approach by Sheffield FC. Last Saturday, he completed his first full 90 minutes since April.

While Sean Hutchinson against Brodsworth was scoring his first goal for almost exactly two years, his last being at Lincoln Moorlands in a President's Cup Tie, Mark Reed hit the net for the first time in seven games to take his season's tally to 12. Aaron Brady's hat trick took him to 10, while Stewart Copnell has nine to his credit.

Manager Nicky law took the opportunity afforded by last Saturday's league cup tie to 'shuffle his pack'. Injured centre-backs Darren Brookes and Lee Winfindale continue to recover from leg injuries, while midfielders Andy Brownrigg and John Knapper were given further time to recuperate allowing Shaun Doxey his first start since late September. Left-winger Alvyn Riley was rested.

Meanwhile, Buxton's successful season continues to throw up some interesting statistics. Although 'the Bucks' did net seven at Blackwell MW last season in a Derbyshire Senior Cup tie, last Saturday' demolition of Brodsworth was the highest Silverlands total for the home team since October 1980 when Tamworth were on the wrong end of a 7-0 NPL thrashing.

While attendances for matches at the Silverlands continue to be encouraging, club officials are also hoping for a good turn out for the 'Evening with John McGovern'. The former Derby, Leeds and Nottingham Forest star will be speaking in the Silverlands Social Club on Thursday, December 8 with tickets priced at £16, including supper. Club officials also hope supporters will make every effort to sell Christmas raffle tickets on their behalf.

Although the Silverlands pitch was fit for play last Wednesday, nonetheless Buxton's top-of-the-league clash still had to be postponed.

For the second time in less than six months a delivery vehicle reversed inaccurately at the entrance to the ground, bringing down the electric cables above the main gates, causing a hazard to spectators.

Repairs were made in time for Saturday's match while club officials have renewed their aim to locate the offending cables underground. Fortunately, the clubs new flag pole, itself a replacement for the one damaged beyond repair in the July accident, escaped injury.

Though a new date has yet to be found for the Liversedge fixture, Buxton's visit to Sutton Town will take place on Boxing Day.

Re: Non League midweek 21/22/23 Nov inc. FA Vase

Match report 17/11 makes interesting reading though, loads of players out:

BUXTON secured second place in the table – two points behind Liversedge who won 7-2 against Glapwell on Tuesday – by winning with a makeshift side against opponents who made it hard for them in a competitive and thrilling second half.
Lacking players of the calibre of Brookes, Hutchinson, Knapper, Wharton, Foster, Brady and Willis, mostly through injury, Bucks still produced a committed and convincing display that should have yielded more than a single goal victory.

The visitors most dominent period was in the opening half hour.

Fit-again Winfindale and then winger Riley, fed by a Reed pull-back, both went close early on with drives wide of post.

Brownrigg fired straight at keeper Brooke at the far post as he latched onto a Riley free kick.

Thereafter, Buxton seemed to lose their way before notching a goal just prior to the interval with Copnell heading in Doxey's in-swinging free kick.

The opening period had been lively enough on a bitterly cold night but the second half positively crackled with action as play swung rapidly from end to end.

Garforth went for broke at half time by introducing all three substitutes and made an immediate impact as Hartley was forced into making a superb save from a far post header.

Substitute winger Andy Rowan posed a particular threat with several forceful runs.

The Bucks however continued to make the clearest openings but still could not increase their score. Reed's low pull-back set up Copnell, whose goalbound shot struck a defender, while Copnell, from the by-line, lifted his cross over his waiting team-mates.

Froggatt and Reed then worked the best move of the match on 70 minutes, but the former lacked composure on his finishing shot which flashed by high and wide.

Reed, as ever, was the sharpest thorn in the opposition's side and could twice have sealed victory in the last quarter hour. First he made something out of nothing, but his shot from the by-line and therefore an impossible angle, hit Brooke to ricochet clear and then he beat half the defence only to fire weakly at the keeper.

However, the game finished on a heart-stopping moment for the sizeable visiting contingent as veteran ex-Emley substitute Charlie Bradshaw wasted town's best chance scuffing his shot from close range into Hartley's arms.

Buxton: Hartley, Brownrigg, Winfindale, Middleton, MacPherson, Froggatt (Hall,87), Towey, Doxey, Riley, Copnell, Reed. Subs not used Smith (L), Hiner.

Re: Non League midweek 21/22/23 Nov inc. FA Vase

The 7-1 win in the previous game was a league cup game so its difficult to judge tbh but at this level of footbal on a midweek night game you've got to fancy the 2nd placed home side surely ??
