Re: FA Trophy 26/11
Just seen the fixtures priced up and I'd be extremely surprised if some of them stay the same come Wednesday as they look too big. Maybe the odds compiler has factored in an element of the higher league teams not taking it seriously but the Trophy is a respectable enough competition and I've had a few punts already...
Leighton Town v Eastleigh @ 1.72
In-form Eastleigh are 1.72 to beat Leighton Town, a team mid-table 2 leagues below them...A check of the stats shows me that Leighton have lost 8 of their 16 fixtures, 5 of these at home. They have lost four of their last five home games.
After a poor start Eastleigh are climbing up the Conf South. A nine game unbeaten streak finished on Saturday after they lost 2-1 away to a strong Cambridge City side. They are more of a home side admitedy but they score for fun at times and have Andy Forbes who on 11 goals is 3rd top of the Conf South hotsots.
I'd personally price this up as 1.5 so in my eyes 1.72 is worth a reasonably large investment for a cup competition.
Hinckley @ 2.2 V Histon
Moving on readers of the NL threads would have seen that I've taken to backing against Injury Hit Histon at the moment.
On Saturday they are away to Hinckley from the Conference North. I've taken the 2.2 on offer as IMO a price above evens would be tasty. Hinckley are 7th in the league and have drawn 5 at home.
Histon haven't won away for the last four an that included a 0-0 with the dreadful Carlshalton. It will be interesting to see how they get on away to another side in poor form, WSM, tonight.
Sailsbury V Newport County 4.33
Sailisbury are league leaders of the Southern League, the league below Newport's Conference South. I wouldn't be surprised if they won this game but the 4.33 on offer for Newport who are under new management and have become tenacious in recent weeks is in my eyes way to high. i'd probably make Sailisbury slight favourites but they're well odds on here and I'd don't agree.
The points made above are underlined by Newports draw away to high flying Sutton at the weekend. Sailisbury got turned over by lowly Yate a few weeks back which was a turn up for the books. A point on this game for me.
Bath City v Yeading @ 2.5
Again, another price I don't agree with. This game is the same as above featuring yeading from the higher level. Yeading have had patchy form with some decent results so far this season. 5 wins away from 8 including a 4-0 spanking of Basingstoke at the weekend.
Bath City are a decent Southern Prem team who should be there or there abouts at the end of the season. They do seem to be a bit out of sorts this season, especially up-front. They've only won 2 from 8 at home and a disapointing 0-0 draw in their last home game against poor Glioucester City makes me think that Yeading could turn these over at a decent price. 3 points on this one for me.
It'll be interesting to see what Skybet and Stan James price these games up as.
Muze - are you tempted to gain revenge on Hucknall Town with the Vics mate?

Re: FA Trophy 26/11
Word of warning in case anyway was away thinking that Nuneaton Boro were nailed on certs (hah!) at Farsley... They've not won a trophy game in 10 years :loon There is some banter to this effect on the new Boro forum now but my Dad pointed this out to me a couple weeks ago.
Bet365 prices seem about fair. But I'm very very tempted to put maybe a point on Farsley at the sort of odds Sky are throwing around (3.5) as they have priced Boro as low as 1.8. Only have to look at they hard work Boro have made of their other cup ties so far this season even with them flying high in the league. And I really do think that they will be more interested in the FA Cup tie the weekend after to try and get to the 3rd round. Not a cert but worth a bit of thinking about.

Re: FA Trophy 26/11
My side Tonbridge Angels host East Thurrock Utd.
We've got no suspensions this weekend, and the only injury concern is striker Leroy Huggins. Doesn't really matter as we have enough in that area of the pitch. Poor form as of late but it's well known fact that we always play well against the bigger sides, and especially in The FA Trophy which has become somewhat of a priority of the last couple of seasons. Gunning for promotion in Ryman 1. In front of home crowd, looking for a victory, I reckon it could be our day...
Our visitors have just signed Danny Knowles, golakeeper on loan from Gillingham so he'll definitely be a good addition to the squad. Already boast a couple of excellent players in Steve West and Danny Hayzelden. Not the best away from home but are midtable in the league above...
For anyone that does fancy a flutter, put maybe a couple of quid on a home win, or possibly a draw. Going to be close whatever.
Also spotted Welling to win the competition outright. Grays did it from Conf South last campaign, why cant Welling do the same this term? They've certainly got a good enough squad, plus some of the bigger Conference sides aren't really taking the Trophy as seriously as some may thing. Worth a flutter maybe? I reckon so...

Re: FA Trophy 26/11
Theres a lot of interesting and potentially lucrative contests going on here this week. I have particular fancies with Chippenham (8/11) at home to the shite Carshalton and St Albans (Evens) away to Ryman team Heybridge. Both great prices imo and ill be on both of those im almost certain.
Others worth looking into are Yeading (6/4) and Eastleigh (8/11) as AMP pointed out, both away to lower league opposition.
Barking & East Ham could be good things at home (Evens) as could Harrogate at 4/5 away to Solihull.
The 2 'trouble' ties which im also interested in are Welling (6/5) and Nuneaton (11/8). Welling trouble because of the midweek game against the same opposition drawing 2-2 and Nuneaton trouble because of Kriders earlier post!
Quite a lot to get through there!

Re: FA Trophy 26/11
Sittingbourne v Cambridge City 4.33 3.60 1.61
Info only:
Sittingbourne news. Eight first teamers out as per the kentish express:
Sittingbourne manager Steve Lovell is anticipating a very tough game when they host Nationwide Conference South outfit Cambridge City in the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy at Bourne Park on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.
But the Welshman admits his injury hit squad will need to be at their best to progress into the first round.
In an EXCLUSIVE interview with www.kentishfootball.co.uk, Lovell said: "It's a very tough game, they are two leagues above us and doing well in their league.
"They will be expecting to come down and win the game so it's going to be very tough, but hopefully we can put up a good performance and cause a bit of an upset."
Lovell calls on his fringe players to impress as eight of his squad are unavailable. Paul Ainsworth (foot), Lee Browning (shoulder), Steve Williams (back), Mark Lovell (knee), Jon Neal (hamstring), Dan Edwards (cartilage), Dan Tanner (ankle) and Michael Smissen (cup-tied) all miss out.
And Lovell asks the fans to get behind his team. He said: "We've got a very good home record so I'm pleased. We should have a decent crowd down there and if all our players perform the best we can. I think we can get a result. But we need to be at our best."
Lovell admitted former Welling United striker Paul Booth will "be a danger" to his side but he is looking forward to meeting visiting manager Paul Roberts, the former St Albans City, Braintree Town and Baldock Town boss.
"I know their manager very well and he's had a good record in non-league football," said Lovell. "He's been around a few years, like myself, so it will be quite interesting how the game unfolds."
-----
Cambridge City having beat Eastleigh last time out 2-1, with ten men on 45 minutes says to me they've hit a bit of form.
----
Heres the report from the CCFC forum, Sorry no link available, but at least you've got some pictures....
Paul Booth’s stunning lob rounded off an heroic second-half display by the Lilywhites as they secured a battling 2-1 victory over in-form Eastleigh despite playing for half the game with only ten men after Dale Binns’ controversial dismissal.
For the sixth game in succession City were unchanged, although the red card picked up by ‘keeper Danny Naisbitt in last Saturday’s draw at Lewes meant this was his last game before suspension. | Matt Langston tries to force the ball home following a corner
|
Eastleigh boss Paul Dowsell has seen the Spitfires soar into the top six on the back of the best current form of any team in the division. Most recently two late Andy Forbes’ goals secured victory over Sutton at Ten Acres.
In near perfect playing conditions on a crisp winter afternoon both teams started in confident mood passing the ball well and probing for an early opening.
City forced the pace in the opening exchanges, Dale Binns’ left wing corner finding Matt Langston whose powerful downward header was flicked on by Robbie Simpson but Wayne Shaw was well placed to collect.
Eastleigh countered through the imposing Steve Forbes who stroked an accurate through ball into the path of Neville Roache, scorer of two goals on his last visit to Milton Road, but the former Basingstoke striker fired over the angle of post and crossbar.
A sweeping move then saw the hosts grab an early lead. Mark Molesley powered forward from deep switching play from right to left where Binns’ first time ball put Paul Booth in behind the Eastleigh defence. Showing good feet City’s leading scorer clipped a perfectly flighted near post centre into Robbie Simpson who glanced a header across Shaw and into the far corner of the net.
The Lilywhites looked to press home their advantage. Simpson rose impressively to head a lofted clearance into the path of Booth who drew his man before playing Craig Dobson in behind Martin Thomas. Dobson sped towards goal but Shaw stood his ground and made a good block with the former Lewes winger looking to add to his two goal haul from last Saturday.
Having shown little as an attacking force up until this point the Spitfires seized on a rare moment of uncertainty in the City rearguard to grab an equaliser. There seemed little danger as Matt Langston rose to deal with Jack Smith’s free kick, delivered from deep on the right hand side, however he and Craig Pope both went for the same header, neither cleared their lines and both were out of the game as the ball dropped invitingly for Australian U21 international Nick Stravroulakis and he made no mistake, chipping over an unprotected Naisbett from ten yards out.
 | Robbie Simpson is knocked to the ground
|
The Lilyhites almost regained the lead minutes later. Simpson again dominant in the air, rose to meet Lee Chaffey’s clearance before playing a one-two with strike partner Booth and surging through the inside left channel only to be thwarted by Shaw who was smartly off his line.
Eastleigh’s 3-5-2 formation was by now giving them the edge in midfield with Steve Forbes orchestrating from his central role.
With just under twenty-five minutes on the clock they came close to snatching the lead, Ryan Ashford’s deep corner found Andy Forbes on the far post who headed powerfully back across goal where Craig Pope was well positioned to clear off the line.
Pope was in the thick of the action again when Jack Smith crossed for Steve Forbes but the close attentions of the City full back forced the tall playmaker to fire wide of the target.
Eastleigh’s midfield stranglehold starved City’s strikers of any real service however the incredible workrate of the front two meant that they were still able to carve out openings of their own making. Booth’s measured through ball exploited Simpson’s blistering pace as he accelerated between Thomas and Shaw but the full back recovered to clear at the expense of a corner.
Moments later Booth seized on an under hit back pass and rounded Shaw, but forced away from goal, by the time the former Welling hit-man was in a position to shoot Chris Collins was back in front of goal to clear.
With the regulation 45 minutes complete the game exploded into life as the result of a controversial incident which influenced proceedings for the remainder of the afternoon.
A swift break out of defence saw Dale Binns get the wrong side of visiting skipper Danny Smith. As the City winger sped clear he was impeded by an outstretched arm across his body. A challenge which resulted in referee Comley awarding the hosts a free kick. However, as Binns tried to free himself Smith fell to the floor holding his face. The assistant referee flagged and after consultation Binns was shown a straight red card, presumably for use of the elbow.
To say the decision angered the players, management and supporters of the home side would be something of an understatement as the stewards moved in to escort the officials off the pitch at the interval.
There were no signs in the early stages of the second period that Eastleigh intended to press home their numerical advantage. In fact, Jack Smith and goal scorer Stravroulakis both committed untidy challenges which earned them yellow cards with Mr Comley coming under increasing pressure to maintain order.
 | Lee Chaffey chases down the ball
|
The game settled into something of a stalemate. With Robbie Simpson withdrawn to the left to fill in for the departed Binns, Booth was isolated. Eastleigh for their part, were either unable, or unwilling to use their extra man to stretch City’s well organised and well disciplined defence.
Despite a double change just after the hour the visitors were unable to alter the pattern of the game. The Lilywhites grew in confidence as a result and Mark Molesley and Josh Simpson began to see more of the ball in central areas.
When City did find themselves with their backs to the wall Booth and Simpson were still working exceptionally hard to occupy the Eastleigh defenders by chasing a succession of hopeful clearances.
With sixteen minutes remaining Booth was rewarded for his hard work when he chased one such upfield ball through the inside right channel. Showing great pace and strength the twelve goal striker held off Nick Burton and as Shaw raced from his line to avert the danger sent a perfectly executed lob soaring over the ‘keeper and into the back of an empty net. City fans are becoming used to such moments of quality but in the context of this game it was a quite exceptional piece of finishing.
Stung into action Eastleigh pushed forward but as is often the case in these circumstances teams who have not played at a pace and tempo to pose a threat to the opposition goal find it very difficult to move up a gear at such a late stage in the game.
City found themselves defending deeper but aside from a Steve Forbes shot which whistled narrowly wide the Lilywhites rearguard offered Danny Naisbitt such comprehensive protection that he didn’t have a shot to save. In fact it was Booth who came closest to scoring when he collected a flick on from the tireless Robbie Simpson, muscled Thomas off the ball and tried another audacious lob from deep on the left which had Shaw scrambling back to collect from under the crossbar.
The City players deservedly soaked up the applause at the final whistle but if they are to continue to build on a run of only one defeat in the last seven league games they are going to have to do it without two key players who both face three match suspensions.
----
Those suspensions dont appear on the FA Suspension list, so I guess they'll be blazing to get the match over this round. http://www.thefa.com/TheFA/Disciplin...dedPlayers.htm
I don't like cup matches, but I think I might have 1pt on this one.

Re: FA Trophy 26/11
More on Heybridge V St Albans...
Here is a part from a previous post I made in regards to Heybridge when i backed them to beat Redbridge last week...
Quote:
Heybridge are a funny sort as underlined by their 7-1-6 league record and 3-0-4 away record. I remember backing them to beat Windsor (the side who Redbridge got that draw against and they obliged 2-0) and I cited then that Heybridge beat the crap teams and lose to the better teams. Looking back on this assumption I found some killer stats. Of course I dont bet purely on a stat but this is a goodun.
Heybridge v Top half team, 0-1-6 (scored 3/conceded 16)
Heybridge v Bottom half team, 7-0-0 (scored 16/conceded 4)
|
Since this they beat Redbridge 2-1 as expected but then lost at home to lowly Wealdstone 3-1. So they bucked the trend there but losing at home to a poor side is good for this bets prospects...
As you can see Heybridge really struggle when they face a good side from their own league, let along St Albans who are currently top in the league above! Its also noted how many goals Heybridge can concede, 16 in 7 games against top half sides not to mention the 3 on saturday to Wealdstone. St Albans are the conf souths highest scorers.
At Evens I think the price is a right steal and ill be giving it serious attention.

Re: FA Trophy 26/11
Tally ho old chum good stuff!
Chippenham v Carshalton 8/11 StanJames
This looks so much like a no brainer its sick. Heres league records...
Chippy home record 8-0-0
Carshalton away record 0-1-8
Chippenham are in the league below Carshalton but in this case it is worth noting that in Cups Chippenham have beaten Newport 4-0, Sutton 1-0 and Basingstoke 1-0, all in the same league as Carshalton those three teams and theyve had them all.
One book goes as low as 4/9 on Chippenham and you can see why. It almost seems too perfect in a way.
Its worth noting that Chippenham lost one half of their strike partnership last week (went pro with Walsall) but they still scored 3 away to Hitchin which suprised me so maybe it hasnt affected them as much as I thought it would.
Im not a big fan of backing big odds on singles in cup games though (for obvious reasons) so I may take the cautious approach although I wouldnt blame anyone in taking a hefty single.
The ht/ft market appeals. 12 from 13 of Chippenhams home games they have been leading at half time and gone onto win this season. In contrast 7 from 9 of Carshaltons away games they have been losing at half time and gone on to lose. So what do StanJames give on the Chippenham ht/ft? 7/4 :loon
I cant see any way I can not back that, its just stupid high odds imo.

Re: FA Trophy 26/11
I'm on a roll tonight. Looks like Eastleigh striker Andy Forbes will be being watched by Brighton tomorrow so I'm guessing he'll want to impress. His strike partner Neville Roach is on-trial at Oxford so will miss the game.
Update on Heybridge, their top striker Cliff Akurang (who destroyed St.Albans last year playing for Thurrock) has signed for Dagenham and Redbridge. St.Albans on the other hand have strengthend thier defence by signing former Farnborough captain Nick Burton (highly rated by Borouogh fans) from of all places Eastleigh.
Big injury problems for Croydon Athletic too

Re: FA Trophy 26/11
That St. Albans shout looks good to me - finally got around to reading up on things. Also like the look of the Chippenham (possibly the HT/FT) and Barking punts at the moment based on the news in this forum, and the usual stats/forum reads.
Was briefly tempted by Marine but I'm too concerned about the draw and best odds of 2.1 are a bit too low given that. I'm also staying away from Newport because of the 2 jailed players (was somewhere online and also mentioned again in NLP). I agree the pricing is out but wont bother myself to invest.
Braintree/Hayes should be a good game. Two sides in decent form so I'm staying away from that one too.
