Was looking at Hibs at the asian handicap of -2 - what do you think? Got to fancy it as hibs likes goals.

Re: Scottish Cup - 6/7/8 January
Right I am for Aberdeen. The price is nearing 2/1 on Betfair and I am snapping that up for 3pts if I can get it. Its a cup tie, form goes out the window as they say and Aberdeen surely got to be up for this. Talk down here in Glasgow that Celtic are to bid for MArk Wilson now, a player Strachan really rates

Re: Scottish Cup - 6/7/8 January
I like the look of Motherwell 6/5 also to win at St Mirren. The SPL gulf should show here and I am sure Motherwell have a great cup record in recent times reaching many semis and 1/4's and they are also on a very good run at the moment.

Re: Scottish Cup - 6/7/8 January
Quote:
St. Mirren 0 Motherwell 2 in the CIS Cup at Love Street on 20th Sept 05.
There was one change to the starting line up with David Clarkson replacing the injured Jim Hamilton following the 5-0 hammering of Falkirk at the weekend.
The Saints made the better start with a Potter volley from a Murray cross flashing just over the bar in the second minute. It took only another 13 minutes before Graeme Smith was called into action when he had to produce a stunning save to keep out a close range John Sutton header.
We did respond moments later when McDonald and Clarkson combined for the young striker to send his shout wide of the target. Then on 25 minutes we created our best chance of the half when Foran’s deep cross from the left found McDonald in acres of space but the Aussie striker sent his shot high and wide.
As half time approached Saints were dominating possession without posing any real threat until they were awarded a free kick at the edge of the box which saw Smith react sharply to smother Lappin’s effort low to his right.
The home side almost took the lead straight from kick off in the second half when Murray’s cross to the front post was turned over by Mehmet. All we had to show in the early stages of the second half were two long ranges efforts, the first from Clarkson that sailed over and one from Foran that bent wide of the far post.
On 66 minutes it looked as though the Saints had taken the lead as Lappin’s free kick to the far post found the veteran Andy Millen and his header looked net bound until Shaun Fagan popped up to head off the line from under the cross bar.
As the game headed into the final minute Saints were once again denied a normal time victory that they possible just about deserved. They were awarded a free kick 20 yards out and it was superbly struck by sub Adam but he was unlucky to see his effort crash back off the cross bar.
The game was then forced to go into an extra thirty minutes to decide who would progress to the Quarter Final stage. It looked as though at this stage that the first goal would be crucial and it came as a relief when on 97 minutes we grabbed the initiative. A Hammell corner was bulleted goalwards by the head of Craigan but his effort was blocked but it fell kindly for Clarkson to force the ball over the line.
We doubled the lead, and at the same time put the tie beyond Saints, seven minutes later when Scott McDonald released sub Darren Smith and the youngster outpaced the defence to poke the ball past the advancing keeper.
That was pretty much that with the only real danger in the second period coming from a Van Zanten volley that whistle past the post from the edge of the box.
St Mirren: Smith, van Zanten, Broadfoot, Millen (Corcoran 105), McGowne, Potter, Murray, Lappin (Adam 79), Sutton, Mehmet (Kean 98), Reid.
Subs Not Used: Hinchcliffe, Maxwell.
Booked: McGowne, Broadfoot.
Motherwell: Graeme Smith, Paul Quinn (McLean 48), Hammell, Kerr, Craigan, Clarkson, McDonald, Fagan, Foran (Keogh 117), Andy Smith (Darren Smith 71), Kinniburgh.
Subs Not Used: Meldrum, Connolly.
Booked: Paul Quinn, McDonald, Fagan, Foran.

The second period saw Well emerge with far more hunger than in the first half and they took the game to Saints right from the off. For some 25 minutes they took complete control and had the buddies penned back deep inside their own half, but again the buds refused to buckle. This is a Saint side to be proud of on this showing. Time and again Well threatened but time and again up popped a last gasp Saints shirt to deny them. It was gripping stuff.
i wasnt interested really till i saw that. I like a team that comes fired up in 2nd halves. They'll remeber their last visit and im sure the manager will remind them of this before the start of the 1st half. I know St Mirren aint as potent upfront with their chances as theyve been and probably is the best time to go against them this season. Aye if team news is good i could have been talked into Motherwell by the time sat afternoon comes.

Re: Scottish Cup - 6/7/8 January
reading the st mirren report actually just makes me think more that Motherwell saw the best of them and they'll be ready for this. Their away record this season v teams outwith the glasgow and Edinurgh 'firms' reads-
Scottish Premier Kilmarnock 4-1 Motherwell 13-08-2005
Scottish Premier Inverness CT 1-2 Motherwell 10-09-2005
Scottish Premier Aberdeen 2-2 Motherwell 01-10-2005
Scottish Premier Dunfermline 0-3 Motherwell 29-10-2005
Scottish Premier Dundee Utd 1-1 Motherwell 19-11-2005
Scottish Premier Falkirk 0-1 Motherwell 10-12-2005
Scottish Premier Livingston 1-2 Motherwell 31-12-2005
.....pretty well actually

Re: Scottish Cup - 6/7/8 January
for the record here's the same for Aberdeen
Scottish Premier Dundee Utd 1-1 Aberdeen 30-07-2005
Scottish Premier Dunfermline 0-2 Aberdeen 17-09-2005
Scottish Premier Inverness CT 1-1 Aberdeen 15-10-2005
Scottish Premier Kilmarnock 4-2 Aberdeen 29-10-2005
Scottish Premier Falkirk 1-2 Aberdeen 26-11-2005
Scottish Premier Livingston 0-0 Aberdeen 17-12-2005
Scottish Premier Motherwell 3-1 Aberdeen 26-12-2005
If there was nothing too bad in their Killie performance i suppse it looks ok. Well no bad. Well just prob as it could. Nope it could be a hell of a lot worse. This doesnt mean that they'll win just an intersting stat. To me.

Re: Scottish Cup - 6/7/8 January
Killie game could have ended up any score really. mackie missed a pen to make it 4-3 with about 15 minutes to go, prior to that a complete lapse cost them a few goals at Killie. Perhaps its safer to go with the DNB on Aberdeen, i just think they have the better players, this hasnt helped them thus far though! hehe

Re: Scottish Cup - 6/7/8 January
It is strange to say this concerning who the opposition were, but whatever we say of Hearts - the fact is - they lost. And when you play well and lose, it is not something to give you a boost. And they conceded three in 45 minutes. So, no thanks, no Hearts for me.
The second one is Alloa - Livi, well, cant resist these Alloa odds. Whoever they are, the wasps can always make an upset. Once
And the third one, Spartans. I know of their steep pitch and all, but QP have always been a disciplined side, and 1.90 against a non-league team is not to miss easily.I will think of that one as the most intriguing game, and worth thinking of as the main bet.

dunno mate...
dodgy i think... i hear hibs will be playing a few reserve players, and although i think hibs will win, could only be 1 or 2 goals in it...
i'd love to think we'll score, but i can't see it to be honest, bar a dodgy penalty or something.
2-0 hibs is my educated guess

Re: Scottish Cup - 6/7/8 January
11/10 in corals Snowman if you can get it. I thought you were gonna be another Spartans fan there Snowman and i would start looking at myself in doubt.
Cowdenbeath look to have strengthed well (soz wrong thread)
http://cowdenbeath.net/
Reckon they'll finish the season strongly. Mckenna will be on the bench apparently for St Mirren against Motherwell Saturday. Just thought i'd mention.
Everyone seems wary of Spartans. Mmm maybe rightly so i dunno about backing QP amatuers now QP were poor v Albion some QP are saying but i thought they done ok from the reports. Maybe it was Albion that was just bad.
good post from a QOS fan over at P & B
A wee cup run would be nice and in a one off match, particularly at Palmerston where still, even in this season of crap, only St Johnstone have come and won comfortably, I see no reason we can't win. Accies were a wee bit fortunate to pinch their win last time they were down. I remember in our last season of absolute crap in 1989 when we finished with 10 points we still managed to eliminate high flying Kilmarnock from the Scottish cup in a replay!
