Re: Newcastle Managers Position

Might have a look at that tbh. He is a geordie though so he has got a head start, but the position blues are in is rather similar to the one Blackburn were in when Souness left I agree that it would be an iffy choice but Newcastle have to smell the daisies......they think theyre something theyre not, theyve never won anything & for Shepherd to say its one of the top jobs in world football is just plain ludicrous. Keegan inspired the club in the early 90's & theyre still on that wave IMO. Only Robson really stabilisaed them since. I go back to the 9k a week they were pulling in prior to KK......

Re: Newcastle Managers Position

Aye swoops - from the ones I listed before, how many do you reckon would actually want the job?

Any manager with a decent reputation would be mad to go for this job. In the summer there will be jobs galore up for grabs. Newcastle rate about 6th in England for me. Assuming that there are a similar number of decent clubs in Italy, Spain, Germany a couple in France, Holland, Portugal and also the International jobs (plus old firm too) - I would honestly rate Newcastle around about the 40th best job in world football.

With 40 better jobs to pick from, only someone mad would pick Newcastle. Someone with limited ability and ambition. This isnt having a dig you understand, its my attempt at being rational.

I think unless they have something up their sleeve, they are looking at a hum-drum Premiership also ran.

Re: Newcastle Managers Position

MON will not be going to Newcastle. As far as I know, the position with his wife has not changed and he is not ready to come back to football.

The named being banded about a fair bit today is Hitzfeld. Make of that what you will.

I am also sure I read that Tommy Craig could take over as temp manager once Roeder and Shearer's 12 weeks is up.

As for Man Utd, I also don't think MON is a front runner and have maintained this for some time. He had a chance, I suppose, when the Coolmore lot had a stake in the club but won't be a candidate now IMO. Man Utd are probably the biggest name in world football and with all due respect to St Martin, he isn't and I have a feeling that the board will look at a bigger "name" than him, to match the clubs's status, to takeover once Fergie goes.

The £5k was on Scolari a week or so ago Swoops, a day or so after Souness was emptied. Apparently placed by one elderly man who decided that Scolari was the manager "by process of deduction"

He has been as low as about 5/2 on Betfair but drifted back to about 10's there on the evening after the bet was made/reported.

Yeah this is true as Craig possess's the relevant badges for this job.

As for Newcastle job. Bit of a tough one to be honest as i can't see managers like Allardyce etcwanting the job and AFU makes a good point about there being many better jobs going about.

Maybe a manager like Hoddle would make sense as it would give him another chance on the big stage once again.

Very hard one to guess though

Re: Newcastle Managers Position

From Readabet:

Ex Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri's odds to be the next Newcastle manager have been slashed by Ladbrokes - following a sustained gamble from Spanish punters.

Ranieri, who has been out of work since an ill-fated spell at Valencia, initially saw his odds shorten from 16's to 12's, 10's and finally to 8's in response to the punt. And the 53-year-old Italian has made no secret of his desire to return to the Premiership.

Martin O'Neill remains the 7/4 favourite, with Luiz Felipe Scolari at 5/2. But another onslaught from Ranieri's backers could see him further shortened.

Ladbrokes spokesman, Nick Weinberg, said: " Despite Ranieri's poor showing at Valencia the Spanish can't seem to get enough of him for the Geordie top job. We've also seen the money backing Sam Allardyce dry up."

Bolton's chairman, Phil Gartside, yesterday revealed that 'Big Sam' had no desire to swap The Reebok for St James' Park.

I heard Allardyce on the radio say that he was interested in the England job, perhaps that is why.

There is no chance of Glenn Hoddle coming!

Fat Fred will take his time and finally get the right man imo!

Re: Newcastle Managers Position

I think if Freddy gets this one wrong, he could be out on his arse.

The fans didnt want Souness but cant agree on who they do want. If he appoints someone before the summer it will be because he is feeling pressured. Ideally, they would wait til the summer and get the best man for the job.

There could be an awful lot of decent jobs up for grabs in the summer; England, Man U, Rangers, Portugal, Real Madrid to name but a few - Newcastle comes way down the pile.

I wouldnt employ Glenn Hoddle as a Lolly Pop Man, let alone a football manager - he's shite. But people seem to like him. I reckon newcastle will be too snobbish to pick someone such as Paul Jewell/Mike Newell and will end up with some auld shite that'll last 6 months.
