Newcastle Managers Position

Can someone confirm whether the following is correct or wrong as i possibly might have mishead it.

Had Sky Sports News on the other day and they said basically Newcastle have until the middle of April to install a new manager as Shearer and Roeder don't possess the correct badges in order to manage the club any longer.

Basically if i heard correctly and this is true i think it throws up a whole heap of new problems for Newcastle in finding a new manager.

Firstly they were always going to struggle to get their main target as if its Allardyce, O Neil etc i think they would much rather wait until after the WC to see what their chances of getting this job is.

Secondly how many managers bar the ones that are out of jobs are going to want to leave their club with around 6 games left of the season as it would really hamper their current clubs end to the season if they are challenging for Europe, avoiding relegation.

I think its going to end up with them having to get in another second rate mnager similar to the Souness situation and he wasn't one of the names expected at the time.

Thoughts?

Re: Newcastle Managers Position

Correct Kiko.

Roeder can stay in charge for 12 weeks. Dunno what would stop them from appointing shearer or terry macdermott (for example) in 12 weeks with Roeder pulling the strings again.

Not sure if the 12 weeks max applies only to that one guy or 12 weeks in total, through out the season for the club itself.....If you see what I mean. Hardly ideal is it?

Managers want to see how things pan out over the summer and equally newcastle should get a higher calibre of manager should they wait til the summer.

Benitez & Mourinho for example would never have left their club (voluntarily) in April surely.....

Re: Newcastle Managers Position

Newcastle can apply for an extension to this 12 weeks. Clubs appointing caretaker managers without the UEFA Pro License have done this before (Eddie Gray at Leeds for example). It would make sense for Newcastle to apply to extend it to the end of the season I would think.

Re: Newcastle Managers Position

I read this morning that Newcastle are going to approach Martin O'Neill this week. This was a quote from a club source so that could be a goer. Whether MON is in a position re his wife's illness to take the job is another matter. It was also mentioned that MON is reported to prefer the Premiership to the England job.

Quote:
FREDDY SHEPHERD will offer Martin O'Neill a £30MILLION transfer kitty to lure him to St James' Park.

We can reveal the Toon chairman will make an approach to the former Celtic boss within the next few days as a replacement for Graeme Souness, who was sacked on Thursday.

Shepherd's No1 choice, England boss Sven Goran Eriksson, is unlikely to decide on his future until after the World Cup.

But with Newcastle now facing a battle for Premiership survival, Shepherd will try to persuade O'Neill, who quit Celtic to look after his sick wife, out of retirement.

A Newcastle source said: "Martin will be approached this week about whether he'll move to Newcastle. The club hope he will accept the offer but everything is still up in the air.

"However, Freddy will make it clear funds will be made available to bring in the players he wants."

Re: Newcastle Managers Position

If Martin O'Neill ends up at Newcastle I'll be amazed. Even if you ignore the fact that Fergies on his last legs & MON is one of the few with no United connections that the fans would accept at Old Trafford.....the point remains that under Shepherd Newcastle are a disaster waiting to happen. Its always said that theyre touch & go on the money front & could be the next Leeds, the chairman is a fcukwit who you wouldnt see in charge at any decent sized club after what hes done, & Newcastle as a club try to live the millionaire lifestyle when their club doesnt warrant it.

To cap it all, Newcastle are shit & MON isnt !!

Re: Newcastle Managers Position

Swoops, if Fergie gets nudged out at the end of the season which I agree must be on the cards surely, (don't see him going of his own accord) MON would be a front runner for Old Trafford, depending on his domestic situation. He's not daft and from what you guys say about Newcastle I doubt if he would seriously consider going there. I wasn't aware things are that bad at St James Park.

Re: Newcastle Managers Position

Newcastle are in the shit. In short, MON is too good for them.

Freddy Shepherd has been steadily buying shares in the club for a few years now. Some might say he is taking up the slack from the market to keep the price relatively stable. More Here if you're interested

Many have 'speculated' that there are problems behind the scenes with Douglas Hall and Freddy Shepherd, with each trying to out manouvre the other and re-inforcing their powerbase.

Worth noting that NUFC are in the shit and between the 2 of them, Hall and Shepherd paid themselves £1million last year!

Re: Newcastle Managers Position

Newcastle's wage bill is sky high. The ratio of wages paid/total income was around about 60% last year. No income from Europe this year, Souness's settlement (around £5 million including packages for coaching staff), new arrivals on the payroll including Emre, Parker, Luque, Owen and Solano all mean its only going to get worse.

Last year they got to the FA Cup Final (worth about £4 million at least) and did ok in Europe too.

They could well be the next Leeds.

Don't remember that. I remember them getting battered by Man Utd in the semi final though

Re: Newcastle Managers Position

Right, talk of the town courtesy of a source in the Toon. Steve Bruce is in the Hilton in Newcastle tonight on NUFC's tab. I presume he is having an interview re the vacant job. Could come to nothing as I am sure they are interviewing many candidates for the job....

A Year ago (when brum were doing ok) I would have thought it was a viable move - but it would seem a dodgy move. I think this could be as unpopular as Souness! Cant see after being linked with Sven, Big Phil and MON - Geordies will be happy with Fat Head.

Currently at 50's on betfair.

Kerrazy I think but I am sticking a couple of quid on it.
