Premiership Sack Race 2005/2006

from Sporting Life:

Quote:

Having just guided West Ham into the Premiership, Alan Pardew has been installed as 7/1 joint favourite by Hills to be the first Premiership boss to leave his club.

Promotion to the top flight should go a long way to appeasing Hammers supporters yet to be won over by Pardew, whose position at Upton Park was seemingly on the line every weekend earlier in the season.

However Hills still reckon he's vulnerable and bracket him alongside Fulham's Chris Coleman and Portsmouth's Alain Perrin at the head of their market.

"It is the nature of the beast that those managers expected to be in charge of struggling sides are always the front-runners in this market - but David Moyes has proved that even in the Premiership there can be shock successes," said Hills spokesman Graham Sharpe.
The full list of odds is as follows:
8/1 Alan Curbishley,
9/1 Bryan Robson,
12/1 Paul Jewell, Mick McCarthy, Graeme Souness,
14/1 Sir Alex Ferguson, Steve McClaren, David O'Leary,
16/1 Rafa Benitez,
20/1 Steve Bruce, Mark Hughes, Martin Jol,
25/1 David Moyes, Stuart Pearce,
33/1 Sam Allardyce,
40/1 none to go before the end of 2005/6 season,
66/1 Arsene Wenger,
100/1 Jose Mourinho.

Tottenham have spent a lot of cash and are rumoured to be speding a lot more this summer. 20/1 looks good to me if Jol doesn't get his side of to a decent start.

McCarthy, Pardew and Souness are three others I would consider.

A good shout for Pardew.

He,s only just managed to keep his job this season,so a bad start which is likely i could see him gone within the first two months.

Re: Premiership Sack Race 2005/2006

Agree with what has been said so far. Not so sure why Curbishly is favourite. Way i see it is, he maybe has taking them as far as he can, but who is there out there that could take them to the next level? Not many. Bryan Robson is another im surprised with being so low - even if they got relegated i dont think he wouldve been sacked.

I like the look of O Leary, mainly for the same reasons as Jol with O Leary being given some money this season, expectations are high and if they get off to a poor start then they are in trouble.

What about Souness guys at 12/1? 14th in the prem first season, a bad start and he will definitely be out.

Is it Sack only or does walk out count?

Anyway wouldn't disagree with any of the above but the Pompey chairmen is interferring git and will struggle to get on with most managers so i fancy Perrin could go early on.

Re: Premiership Sack Race 2005/2006

Souness would be a good bet as Newcastle arent a team to hang around and will do the deed if they feel it neccessary. But i see a big season from Newcastle next season so i think his job is safe. Although, it all does depend on the new faces the teams get in - then i will have a proper look at this market!
