Some hands from recent cash games ive been in (1 OF 4)

Hi guys,

Im gonna stick up a few hands ive played recently in cash games on here, and see what your thoughts are on what you would do on the flop/turn/river etc. I'll try to balance it between ones ive won and lost so I wont look like 1) showing off or 2) crying to the world about how unlucky I am (two things that all poker players are guilty of on occasion). What do you lads (and ladesses ofc) think? Is this interesting? If so ill stick some more up. Anyway heres hand 1 (names of villians changed to protect the innocent)

[Jan 25 15:29:02] : kenjiro folded.
[Jan 25 15:29:02] : CaptnCanary folded.
[Jan 25 15:29:06] : VILLIAN called $4
[Jan 25 15:29:11] : thebapster : u up

I guess we are definately playing but what now? Bet....Check/call...Check/raise...if you check/raise are you prepared to get it all in on this flop?

I'd like to win this pot right now ( 2 clubs on board - possible flush draw for someone) so I'd bet something more then 1/2 pot ( pot is $12), maybe $8 , and then see what happens.

Personally I would stick in a decent raise here to see where I'm at, I reckon you're probably ahead at this point and with the flush now a distinct possibility maybe best to try to win it there and then? Anyway, don't play anywhere near that level Jez so my opinion probably a mile out. Be interested with the oucome anyway.

I am a very cautious player and like to win pots early on, that's why I'll never be a cash player as I'm not willing to build a pot.

I would raise to win the pot there and then as I don't want the flush coming out.

Re: Some hands from recent cash games ive been in (1 OF 4)

great flop for you.. But you gotta find out what the others have...

But what did SB do ??
If SB checked.

The right thing would problably be to raise it 9 or 10$, so you dont give a flush draw a free card.
You might win it right there.. But as you say, what if you get a re reaise??
If VILLIAN has KQ or flush draw he might reraise you, and then you have to come back over the top imo...
But not easy to bet strong with that hand..
If its MUZE you are up against i would fold it, couse he has 66 for a made set.

But you gotta believe you have the best hand here.. So also depends on how they play.. Couse if they call everything with flush draw you gotta bet more than under the pot....

I dont know, im lost.

Re: Some hands from recent cash games ive been in (1 OF 4)

Well I agree on betting out which you all seem to like. I am definately being called by a king with a good kicker, and ofc I cant let a flush draw draw cheap. As a note if i had been against short stacks I would have check/raised as I fully expect a king or fdraw to bet and with a short stack a check/raise would have them commited. However the stacks in play are deep so I lead out. Heres what happened and the turn.

[Jan 25 15:29:22] : Board cards [5c 6h Kc]
[Jan 25 15:29:24] : Guyman28 checked.
[Jan 25 15:29:29] : BBDefendah bet $12
[Jan 25 15:29:33] : VILLIAN called $12
[Jan 25 15:29:34] : Guyman28 folded.
[Jan 25 15:29:35] : Dealing turn.
[Jan 25 15:29:35] : Board cards [5c 6h Kc 8c]

Ok now whats your plan of action...Bet again? (and if so do you fold to a raise)...Check and call?...Check and fold...(or even check and raise)?

Re: Some hands from recent cash games ive been in (1 OF 4)

To be fair obviously first move is bet pot, cant go wrong if you just bet the pot on the flop can you at all.

Now that turn has came I check, and then see how much he bets and ill take it from there.

Im not betting out here, ill get just as much information by checking and seeing what he bets that betting out which is a lot more expensive.

Sure if I check he could try and steal the pot and if he bets a large amount on the turn he probably is trying to steal, so im more likely to call a larger bet on the turn than a smaller bet.

Also he could also just as likely try and steal if you bet out the turn, realising its an obvious scare card, he puts in a raise you have a tough decision dont you, he calls you have another toughy on the river.

To easy to say bet out and see where you are, doesnt work like that at all I dont think.

Im pretty much not really too fussed about this hand now, I could easily let this one go.

Re: Some hands from recent cash games ive been in (1 OF 4)

Well chris I agree with you pretty much here. I completely disagree with the "bet for information" brigade, you can usually get it much cheaper by checking. I had pretty much decided to check and probably fold on this turn. I forgot some info about my opponent here in my original post. I have met him irl (in vegas). Hes a pretty solid player, he plays full time also and I would say he is definately one of the long term winners in this game we are playing. Anyway here is the river and the action.

[Jan 25 15:29:37] : BBDefendah checked.
[Jan 25 15:29:40] : VILLIAN checked.
[Jan 25 15:29:40] : Dealing river.
[Jan 25 15:29:40] : Board cards [5c 6h Kc 8c 5h]
[Jan 25 15:29:42] : thebapster : no
[Jan 25 15:29:51] : BBDefendah bet $35
[Jan 25 15:29:58] : VILLIAN called $35 and raised $65

Sweet, a real gin card on the river for us there to give us a boat if he got tricky and checked a flush behind us on the turn to try and induce a call on the river....now what?

You could just push all in, make it look like a huge over bet, trying to steal. Probably wouldn't work but I don't think people move all in enough.

To be fair I'd probably hesitate a while, not too long, then raise about 150. That should be enough for him to call. Or even rais eyou all in if he thinks your bluffing.

Of course, he could have you beat!

Re: Some hands from recent cash games ive been in (1 OF 4)

Well i agree with your final point there Raisin, if Jez was to go all in now that would mean he has the stone cold nuts cos thats what lots of people do.

If your saying he is a solid player Jez and he knows you, then he isnt going to call a re raise from you with a flush is he, he'll know that you have a boat. Well he may call but its likely he'll fold a flush here.

You have 5's full so lets just call here just incase your beaten by a bigger boat.

That is unless you think he will call a re raise with a flush in which case go to $100- $120 more.

Re: Some hands from recent cash games ive been in (1 OF 4)

You got it spot on chris.Theres only one possible full house he can have really, and thats sixes full with 66 in the hole. I am a little surprised he never raised the flop with this if so but then again a slowplay of a set is not that uncommon and his raise here certainly suggests it. If he had 56s (which is a possibility for a FH) then he would have raised on the flop pretty much guaranteed I think and he smooth called there. However he may also have a flush, if he DOES have one it must be the nut flush to check behind on the turn and raise here at the end. I am pretty sure he will fold the nut flush to me if i reraise all in as it will be clear I have a house so I decided to just call. He had 66 and I lost.

Against a very bad player I may have pushed here and tried to get value out of a flush but my opponent here is both good and able to fold a flush in this spot. However it is still pretty forgiveable for anyone to go broke here I think.
