Winners scroll bar

What's TDP's and members thoughts on advertising winning bets on the board. Is it possible, worthwhile or a non starter?
Maybe we could have one of those scroll bars with the daily winners on with links to the winning threads instead of just giving links to any old thread?

The only reason i mention it is because i think if people see their user names up in a scroll bar for winners, (especially newcomers) then it may give a feel good factor and encourage more punters posting?
I just think you need to advertise your winners if you are running a gambling site to encourage more newcomers and posting, maybe?

I gave a small pre season post on why Mourinho was a good bet for first manager to leave his post @ 20/1 and nobodies mentioned it bar me, i think its had 8 views in the last 18 hours, that's a decent pick, today i'm a top tipper tomorrow it will be somebody else, i just think we need to show people why we are here a bit more?

I agree Kop and it's something ive been trying to install since day one. Problem is that the forum software is stoneage and it would have to be a hack. If it has to be a hack then you would be relying on me, mick or slick to post it and as ou know you couldnt expect us to be able to keep up with that. If we had our forum on software that offered us more otptions and was compatible wit hte front page software then we would have all this and more and all members, mods and admin can sipmly click a button on the forum and we have what we want. I'm in the middle of trying to move us to better software but i have to say that this has caused me a lot of arguing iuth folks since last april. We have to take TDP out of just plain and simple foruming and start moving with the times. well imo. Most of have seen the same things for 7 years now. threads and threads and thats it. No change allowed by the luddites that dont want to move with the times. Ive gave up trying Kop. well i thought i had but i see now everday im about the more and more frustrated i get in how limited we are on TDP and its like banging my head against a brick wall.

I'll have a think of what your saying Kop and work out what we can do. Options are-

a) Add an rss to the forum like the one we have for latest threads. Nah that wont work as Mods will have to copy threads in. Actually i could look at members being able to move/copy their threads in.

Actually i cant think Kop. This has been a prob for so long for me. I dont like the forum software nor any of the hacks for it and thats it for me. end of.

If Slick tells me how to get some code into the bit below the Livecore and arcade navbar and above the forum Kop we could maybe do something. Again though for them to autodisplay and not entered manually (dont go there ) i think the only way around iot would be to let folks be able to copy their own posts and threads in there. Ill go have a look. sounds all a bit hard to sell tho 'TDP SHowpiece' Up to you all though. Ill see about the move threads and posts

We have that one in the red text that i like , it states the latest threads , could it not be something like that ?
I know bugger all about software with regards to the + and - points but the one we use seems okay , but i am a Luddite , whats the best software ?
And why do we use the one we use ?

Ive never clicked results or members lists or arcade , i use the Livescore and the radio and the search facility ( when its working ),
I dont like all that tag stuff at the bottom it looks a mess , Top posters i look at , mainly to see who has been the most active over the last 24 hours , i use the new post one every time i am on here , its the best feature of the lot.

I suppose its like working in a factory , could we ( Komp Slick or Mick ) not train several people up to help with these tasks ?
My worry while im tapping away is , what if the site goes down , i think we only have three people who are capable of getting it back and running , ive always found it a bit of a worry.
Surely some other folk should be trained up as such to get things back in order ...

Truth is Winrew and believe it or not there is one thing i would never ask one man or 3 to do and thats do anything fo rthe rest of their lives. Its all well and good having good intentions between us all but we cant make more work than we should. No offence to anyone but do they really care in the end for all the effort. No they wont. It's like Mick and the front page. i couldnt watch him spend the rest of his life opening up dreamwaever and uploading pictures just to update a front page for the rest of his life. It needs to do it automatically and from the forums but sadly the forum and the front page is not compatable(?)

Likewise with what kops asking. It would be easy if everyone had access to the front page via a log in and also the forum. The prob with vbulletin forums is that the mods cant do any admin. Its all too set in its levels. Frontpage and with another forum software (Fireboard) you have up to 10 levels and it would allow us to give evberyone greater 'privileges' and more that everyone can look after. To tell you the truth barr slick that when the forum goes down there's nothing anyone can do about it at the mo barr sending the server people an email. maybe that address and log in could be placed in mods.

Regarding kops idea let me think.

With vbulletin - we run a rss feed off a set new forum where people can copy in their 'look at my great bet' and then it would appear.

On joomla frontend - same thing really as we're using vbulletin forum software and the only interaction between the 2 is via rss. Remembering of course rss only looks at the 1st post in any thread we would have to ensure memebers can copy in their indivisual posts and not threads. As i say my hands are so tied with vbulletin ad whilst its good foru software its very limiting and stuck in the stone age.

I (komp) can copy posts to the new test foru down the bottom but as a regged member i cant (only MOVE my own thread) I posted this on a vbulletin forum

I know that you can let them MOVE their own thread but is it possible to let them COPY their own posts into another forum?

I was wanting to display 'best posts of the week' but to let my members choose their own best and copy it and let my mods get on with other things. Is it possible? thanks

It's the only way around it i can see. Obviously we would just take the rss feed from the forum that folks move the posts to and display that somewhere on the forum.

Also i noted Dan Dan is still a mod. Surely that can't be right. No offence to Dan but it doesnt sound right to me. anyone fill me in?

Daft question , but how can we make it compatable ? Is it just a case of getting better software or is it not possible regardless of what software we use ?

Nah Winrew we don't have the tech know how. Its all serverside stuff and very confusing. I am however good at sending our hosting company manic emails at 5am saturday mornings going off like a penny banger

We need to move from vbulletin to Fireboard (or SMF) forum Winrew. thing is slick's never tried to run a blog or used a CMS system (like Joomla) and thinks that vbulletin is the bollocks. It is good as a forum but it doesnt offer anything frontend (dont talk to me about vbulletin) and a very limited non inspiring things to 'hack' backend (the forum) also the Admin system is terrible and there is no options for mods bar the simplest of things and also there is no stable bridge between vbulletin and joomla. Why oh why shouldnt we have a frontend to go with the backend like here for example-
Football Forum from Football.co.uk.

It would just open up so many options to us all. There will be more to see and do and things would just have a far more contained feel to it.

It's a groups commune. I wasnt interested it in the groups way as who needs groups on a forum. that would lead to bother I as just as ever having to use something differantly for what it was intended for and maybe get something out of it. That looks a big waste of time though but there would be wee bits we could use from it. Here ill tell you all what ill go give a demo of the backend of the front end as it would be. Ill bang a forum on a site and show you all
