Eng v Windies: 20/20 & ODIs

First 20/20 begins 5.30 tonight; another tomorrow same time. Both at the Oval.

First game odds: Eng 2/5. Windies 9/5.

Windies very new to this malarkey and in their warm up games have swung from being dire to not bad. This stuff can be a betting lottery, and if weather intervenes, a D/L farce. Wd suggest big time not to get on England for one reason: crap odds.

Windies is worth a tickle but you're pretty much betting on Chris Gayle, skipper and opener, giving it the biffo and staying there for 6 or 7 overs.
Looks like Trott will play, not Bell, and our new SA chum could do a KP and fire from the off in an England pyjama top.

Cook to open with Prior mooted for England, nowhere near the two best 20/20 openers in England.

Windies highest score first 6 overs @ 6/5 at 5pts
Trott H/S England @ 6/1 at 2pts

both Sporting Odds

stakes recommended!

Re: Eng v Windies: 20/20 7 ODIs

That '7' in the header was meant to be '&'.

There are in fact 3 ODIs, first one at Lord's on Sunday.

Poor odds on England but it is hard to see them losing.
A likely Eng team would be
Cook
Prior
KP
Trott
Shah
Collingwood
Mascheranas
Plunkett
Panesar
Sidebottom
Broad.

Seven of those have played plenty of 20/20 so should know whats what and of the four who haven't it is likely that KP will have little problem adapting.
A possible problem with that team is maybe a need for a specialist 20/20 slow bowler instead of Plunkett. The other problem is Collingwoods lack of experience both of captaincy and of 20/20 cricket in general. They should still be too strong though for the WIndies who have hardly played the game.

I like the WIs 6 overs HS bet Pie & I was nearly tempted to join you in it but I'd already said to myself it was a game to miss tbh I find these 20/20 games too much of a lottery in truth & whilst I fully expect England to win, I dont expect them at the price of 2/5, its just got nothing going for it

Top show from Windies. Gayle and Bravo both failed, who I thought were the danger men. If one of them can get going today, it would have to be Windies again, still at odds against.

Monty in (for Sidebottom?) surely. Still don't like this opening pair for England.

Just looked at weather. Very grim. Shame, as last night's slogathon was good fun.

Re: Eng v Windies: 20/20 & ODIs

Weather looks to be more promising around 5.00pm.

First 6 overs Eng: 5/6; Windies: evens. Will Moores have the balls to ditch Cook? Admit mistake. Trott and Prior open and Bell comes back. Trott looked OK before he missed a straight one yesterday. Will try again.

Windies first 6 overs @ evens at 5pts
Trott Eng H/S @ 6-1 at 1pt.
(void if doesn't play).

Re: Eng v Windies: 20/20 & ODIs

Was that the rebirth of WIndies cricket post Brian Lara.
I think Bell is injured and can't play.
England should have the same 1-8 as yesterday with Panesar and two from Broad/Sidebottom/Anderson. They need to vary the bowling more (although it would not have made much difference yesterday).
Both Broad and Sidebottom have good records in domestic 20/20 games and both lead their teams to last years finals so I would go with these two. Hopefully they will be encouraged to bowl the way they do for their counties rather than how they bowled last night

They were too short yesterday but I'll risk 5 points on England tonight at 1.62 on sporting odds.

im with you, England need to bounce back.

They also need to learn how to play 20/20 properly before the WC

Re: Eng v Windies: 20/20 & ODIs

Sammy.. England need to bounce. But will they? They also need to play 20/20 properly before SA. But will they?

It doesn't sound like you are saying 'this is a good squad to get to the semis at least, in SA, and yesterday was a glitch'. When you get stuffed by a team that have totally played as much 20/20 individually as Trott has as one bloke, it doesn't auger well.

Colbro, I'd want 10/11 either team to get back on England. Still can't see the value as it is. Collingwood win toss, bat... maybe.

Re: Eng v Windies: 20/20 & ODIs

1st ODI starting now. I couldnt get much enthusiasm going for this with the werather & everything but theyre starting on time & WIs have put England in. Pitch has been under covers for a couple of days & there should be movement so I'll keep stakes limited as its WIs but bowling first should give them an advantage really, so:

WIs win @ 2.12 Betfair 20pnts

Re: Eng v Windies: 20/20 & ODIs

181-4 off 42.4 with drizzle stoping play. Chris Gayle doesnt look overly worried at the prospect of chasing 225-230 & WIs fancy themselves here I reckon, even though they didnt take early wickets as they would have liked

Re: Eng v Windies: 20/20 & ODIs

I was about to punt and post with a few considered and juicy gems but fortunately got totally way laid in the local 'pub' at lunchtime. (Game starts 6.00pm here.) All based around WI making a real go of it.

England's bowling attack looks potent for the first time in a while and Sidebottom is back in the frame. Fidel Edwards and Daren Powell look spikey as well.

Hard to go against an England repeat on Wednesday, but again cannot back them at 1/2.
