Re: UEFA Cup 6th March 2008

Werder Bremen are going well in Germany arent they? I was gonna say that this looks like a game Rangers could win. I aint a fan of them at home in Europe but this one feels ok. As i say though i dont know how good a team Werder Bremen is so my thoughts mean nothing.

Tottenham v PSV looks a great game. Just like the a game out of the 70's. I fancy a few goals in that one poss. Anyone considering betting anything on Thursday night?

Re: UEFA Cup 6th March 2008

I fancy Marseille to win their home leg tomorrow night. They've been in super form the past while domestically and won their last home leg agaisnt Spartak Moscow quite convincinly 3-0. They won 2-0 at home on Saturday and i think they can build up a lead against Zenith whose domestic league hasnt started yet. Although they did well to knock out Villareal they lost the game in Spain 2-1. Marseille have rocketed up the french league table the past few months when they were originally were lying in the relegation places they now sit 4th.

I think Rangers will get it tough against Bremen, no bet for me but id slightly favour the Germans to get a draw possibly sneak an away goal.

Im seeing 4/1 in the local for Anderlecht to beat Bayern a team who couldnt beat aberdeen away. I think theirs value in the Belgians and even possibly +1 they could do well in an acca. Bayern would be happy getting beat 2-1 or drawing 1-1.

Re: UEFA Cup 6th March 2008

Fiorentina vs Everton.

When on earth is Everton going to lose a game???? They are unbeaten in the UEFA group stages and winning their EPL games as well. They are bound to lose a game sooner or later rite??? As a Liverpool fan myself, I would love to see them slide soon...esp the 4th spot in the EPL. If they are going to lose a game soon....Fiorentina is one team that is capable of beating them. At odds of -0.25, I am going to back Fiorentina, esp after their morale boosting win over Juv last week.

Somehow, I just don't trust English teams in UEFA cup...will be on Sporting Lisbon as well.

Team news:

Fiorentina

Adrian Mutu and Fabio Liverani are out injured.

Possible formation (4-3-3): Frey; Ujfalusi, Dainelli, Kroldrup, Pasqual; Kuzmanovic, Donadel, Montolivo; Semioli, Pazzini, Jorgensen.

Everton

Midfielder Mikel Arteta is a doubt for this match.

Possible formation (4-5-1): Howard; P. Neville, Yobo, Lescott, Hibbert; Pienaar, Carsley, Osman, Jagielka, Cahill; Yakubu.

Re: UEFA Cup 6th March 2008

Cheers chaps. I always like a thurday night uefa cup night. It used to coincide with the pub pool league and i'd be shouting on the teletext. I cant offer much but i was just reading htis on Bettingzone.co.uk
Quote:
There's a strong British representation in Thursday night's UEFA Cup last 16 clashes - but none of the quartet involved are likely to have it easy.

Everton travel to Fiorentina, who sit fourth in Serie A and come into the game fresh from a weekend triumph away to Juventus, Tottenham welcome Dutch leaders PSV to White Hart Lane and Rangers face second-placed Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen.

Only Bolton can count themselves relatively fortunate after drawing Sporting Lisbon who are way off the pace in Portugal.

It all means it's a trappy betting night and we'll start with what we feel is the only worthwhile wager of the night - under three goals in the Rangers v Bremen clash.

At first glance that may seem a slightly surprising suggestion - no side has come close to Rangers' 43 goals in 15 SPL matches at home this season while Werder Bremen are comfortably the most free-scoring side in Germany.

But a closer examination of both sides' results suggest anything but an open game.

For Rangers have scored more goals away from Ibrox in Europe this season and go into this game having drawn a blank in their last three European games at home, against Barcelona, Lyon and Panathinaikos.

And that pattern probably shouldn't come as a huge surprise judging by the comments of Gers striker Kris Boyd this week.

He said: "Obviously, you don't want to lose goals at home in Europe, because sometimes it counts double, so if you can keep a clean sheet it is always a bonus.

"The results on the road this season have been pretty good so if we can get a good result at Ibrox it will stand us in good stead for going to Germany.

"It's harder at home when teams come because they don't want to lose any goals.

"They make it tough for us and we have found it a bit tougher to break teams down at Ibrox than we have on the road this season."

And there's also a stark difference between Bremen's own displays away from home - in the Bundesliga they average nearly three goals per game in front of their own fans but on their travels that figure dips to 1.4.

It's been a similar story in Europe for them too - just two goals away from home in the group stages of the Champions League and a narrow 1-0 victory over Braga in the last 32 of the UEFA Cup.

In fact just one of their last six matches in all competitions has reached the three-goal mark so the appeal in going low at 4/5 should be obvious.

Elsewhere it should be a cracker between Fiorentina and Everton because both clubs are going well both in Europe and domestically.

The Italians are unbeaten in eight UEFA Cup games and throwing down a real challenge for a top-three spot in Serie A.

A stoppage-time goal from Pablo Osvaldo stunned Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico over the weekend but they meet an Everton side who also consolidated their fourth position in the Premier League with a 3-1 victory over Portsmouth.

And the Toffees are improving all the time in Europe too as it's now seven straight wins in the UEFA Cup following their thrashing of Brann last time out.

David Moyes has options all over the pitch at the moment and the goals are also being shared around which is another good sign.

There's some 5/2 on offer about another Everton success but this represents their stiffest test in the competition to date and a watching brief has to be the advice.

They'll surely go with just one up front - the in-form Yakubu - so another low-scoring encounter could be in the offing but we'll sit this one out.

Moving on and there's a strong temptation to oppose Spurs, with PSV on offer at 5/1 to grab some sort of a lead at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham came back down to earth with a bump at the weekend following their Carling Cup final triumph, being thumped 4-1 at Birmingham.

In truth anyone who saw that match will know the scoreline flattered the Blues but all the same it's a real worry that Spurs continue to remain vulnerable at the back.

Question marks remain about whoever is in goal and, judging by their respective injury records, it's not going to be often enough that skipper Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate line up alongside each other at the heart of the defence.

And for all their improvement it's still just one clean sheet in their last six - and that was against whipping boys Derby.

For their part PSV are six points clear at the top in Holland but there's also a question mark against them as they were stunned 3-1 by FC Utrecht at the weekend.

And there's also the small matter of Juande Ramos' UEFA Cup record as he's going for a third successive triumph after guiding Seville to glory in 2006 and 2007.

That underlines that Spurs shouldn't be opposed lightly so we'll resist that 5/1 about PSV.

It's an easier decision altogether to sit out Bolton's match with Sporting Lisbon.

The signals from the Reebok are very much mixed as far as the UEFA Cup is concerned - the fans seem up for it and have been rewarded by some great displays from the players, but the nagging feeling is that it's an unwanted distraction in their battle for Premier League survival.

Sporting though have been hit and miss themselves and a dreadful away record - just two wins out of 11 - means they make virtually no appeal.

Re: UEFA Cup 6th March 2008

Cheers Kom.

I will reconsider my lisbon option. Just thinking aloud...Bolton shd be focusing on their relegation battle instead of wasting their energy on UEFA....I mean...whats the chances of them winning the cup????

Re: UEFA Cup 6th March 2008

I'd agree booboo. The money must be 20 times that the cup would bring im guessing. Bolton have been in the top flight for a wee while now havent they? They must have went up in one of the first play-offs. Have they stayed there since anyone? Just out of interest

If anyone has a bet then place it on this thread and it will give me something to consider as im really in the dark at this level of club football.

Hello TDP,
Adrian Mutu and Fabio Liverani are out injured as well as Semioli, Santana and Papa Waigo.
Santana and Waigo scores Juve last sunday, is probably duo attacking will be formed Pazzini-Vieri.
Franchi stadium is full and this is a advantage for home team but I think fiorentina haven' t same experience than Everton in european matches.
My bet is Everton DnB@2.37 Bet365 5/10

Re: UEFA Cup 6th March 2008

Calling on all betting experts !! I can see plenty of draws tonight in the UEFA cup other than the Marseille game which I agree with the above should be a home win. What is the best way of putting the other 7 games in a bet and covering singles, doubles, trebles etc for low stakes and hopefully coming out with a small profit ? Anyone explain the finer details to me please ??

Re: UEFA Cup 6th March 2008

I love fiorentina and hope they win but their team is devestated by injuries, without mutu its bad news and liverani adds some guile to midfield. I think they will be happy with 0-0.

bets tonight for me are:

anderlect+05 @2.22
psv+05 @2.39

Full cover for 7 teams = 127 bets which is a lot to cover.

I have got a formula for working out 6 games and using that you perm 3,4,5 & 6 = 42 bets.

working out the draws at 2/1 if you got 5 right you would basically have a 23/1 winner but laughing if you got all 6

If your bookie has quickslips then just tick the boxes Trebles, 4-folds, 5-folds & 6-folds and enter stake say 10p. This works out at £4.20.

If they dony have a quickslip then mark your 6 games with X and right in Perm box. Perm any 3,4,5 & 6 = 42 bets @ 10p.

If you do a search on Goodle for William Hill Calculator this also is good at working out how much you could win but most importantly how much all your bets will cost.

Re: UEFA Cup 6th March 2008

Marseille for me as stated above as well as anderlecht +1. Also im going to have a slice of Bolton, Lisbon aernt convincing on the road at all. Everton +1 could be another as fiorentina look simply destroyed by injuries.
