Intertoto Cup 18/19th June

The lineup has been confirmed for the 2005 UEFA Intertoto Cup - with three former European champions and several other big names among the 61 entrants.

Göteborg bid
In the first round, two-time UEFA Cup winners IFK Göteborg will begin what they hope will be a marathon bid to regain that trophy with a two-legged tie against Luxembourg's FC Victoria Rosport. In all there are 21 ties at this stage, played on 18/19 and 25/26 June.

Hamburg reward
The prize at stake for FK Smederevo of Serbia and Montenegro and F.Y.R. Macedonia's FK Pobeda, is a second-round match against 1983 European Champion Clubs' Cup winners Hamburger SV, who reached the Intertoto Cup final in 1999 only to lose on penalties to Montpellier Hérault SC. Other luminaries entering at this point are UEFA Champions League perennials RC Deportivo La Coruña, who will play Valletta FC or FK Buducnost Podgorica, and VFL Wolfsburg, hoping to go one better than their 2003 Intertoto Cup final defeat, starting against either Andorra's FC Ranger's or SK Sturm Graz of Austria on 2/3 July and 9/10 July.

Big names enter
Then, on 16/17 July and 23 July, comes the entry of the six teams seeded to the third round, after which follow the semi-finals and the finals offering three UEFA Cup berths. Among this sextet are two clubs to have triumphed in the Champions League, Olympique de Marseille and BV Borussia Dortmund, as well as 2004 UEFA Cup winners Valencia CF, the last UEFA Cup Winners' Cup holders in 1999, S.S. Lazio, and 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup victors Newcastle United FC.

Class of 2004 graduate
While no former Intertoto Cup winners are in the draw, two other beaten finalists are among this third set of teams - Newcastle from 2001 and UD Leiria, pipped last season by LOSC Lille Métropole who joined Villarreal CF and FC Schalke 04 in the 2004/05 UEFA Cup first round. Just to show that an early start to the season need not necessarily hinder a side's campaign, those three winners have now earned Champions League places for 2005/06.

Re: Intertoto Cup 18/19th June

Olympiakos odds surely cant be correct? Or is this a different team to the greeks im thinking of?

I think there could be some value in Gent away to Bohemians as they are a decent side and finished just outside the european spot if my memory serves me correct. Although more times than not i get muddled up with Genk/Gent.

Dont really know any of the other teams :think

think
I wouldn't like to try and judge how superior the Belgian League ought to be compared to the Eircom but beware that the Irish team are in good form and will be at peak fitness.

The Belgians only returned to pre season training last Wednesday.

Having said that I wouldn't attempt to pick a winner myself ( but I might look further into it) and I can't help but remember what a difficult time Shelbourne gave to Deportivo in The CL last year.

Bugger

Would have been having a full 50pts TDP bet on Bistrica v Olympiakos Nicosia. Nicosia playing with youth team today. Bistrica hammered from 2.00 into 1.38 on Betfair, £113k matched on event, £111k on Bistrica

Anyway, one for tomorrow

Lombard Tatabanya v WIT Georgia Tblisi

Have taken 7pts on Lombard of Hungary at 1.72 on Betfair. This could well be tomorrows steamer.

From Georgian poster at Bettingadvice

Hurry up to put money on Lombard Tatabanya!!!!

Quote:
It will be nice home win and I am sure Georgian team won`t even manage to score
Reasons:

1) I am from TBilisi, Georgia, and I know quite well the team (WIT-Georgia)
2) Too many young players went in Hungary, even 17-18 year boys.
3) They went from Tbilisi to Baku by bus!!!!! and this evening (18.06.05), they will fly from Baku to Hungary (and the game is tomorrow)
4) we have no coach and reserve coach is training the players.
5) Today called me my friend and said: "how are u man? u know that we are gonna loose in Hungary?", I said, why? and he continued: "man, I am sitting right now with the player of WIT-Georgia ( I won`t name him), and I am playing Domino with him )) He said that they don`t even care about that match.
6) Just one main squad player went in Hungary, others are having vacations.
7) And that only regular players said that they are goona play just they have to.

nothing to add people. I am sure the odds will be slashed, so hurry up and put some money on home team. IN this condition I don`t think WIT can make anything.

Btw, bookies have been all over the place with odds on this competition, they really are struggling with knowledge of the sides involved.

B&W priced Xamax at start of the week at 2.10 and then dropped them to 1.18. Currently 1.25.

Re: Intertoto Cup 18/19th June

Nah, never really go big on anything in this competition as you are taking a lot of the information on trust alone.

It does feel good to have a nice price on them though. Having said that, I got a couple of cracking prices today (or whenever they were matched) on Betfair. Had Vilnius at 1.40 v Lisburn, avg 1.23. Unfortunately I also had Sturm Graz at 1.22 (avg 1.11) away to some set of Andorran goat herders - and they could only draw 1-1 Happy with both the prices but disappointed in Sturms result.

Everyone has been all over the place with this competition and therefore if you can dig out some tasty info you are sitting with a possible big advantage. I mean look at Bistrica, 2.00 into 1.35 or so (last I looked) and they won 5-0. All due to Olympiakos playing practically a youth team.
