Re: UEFA CUP 30th Nov/1st Dec

looking for the tables. Found this on the uefa site a site im not familiar with. I'll tidy it up and post it all here for an easy read for you all over a morning cup of tea. Its the last round of group matches is it not? Nah doesnt seem so. Need tables.

GROUP A

CSKA Sofia (3/4) Draw (13/5) Viking FK (18/5) 107%
After defeats in their opening two games in UEFA Cup Group A, PFC CSKA Sofia will hope to make home advantage count when the they play host to a Viking FK side who currently lie third in the section. CSKA will be looking to erase memories of their defeats at home to Hamburger SV and away at SK Slavia Praha to revive their hopes in the section.
• The Bulgarian team began their campaign at home but were unable to capitalise as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Hamburg before falling 4-2 to Slavia in Prague on Matchday 2. Their Norwegian opponents on Matchday 3 also lost in their second fixture, 2-0 in Germany against Hamburg, but had opened impressively with 1-0 home win against AS Monaco FC. Viking's third game was a frustating experience, however, as despite leading twice through Nkosinathi Nhleko - the scorer of the winner against Monaco - and Allan Gaarde, goals from Stanislav Vlček and Karel Piták earned Slavia a point.
• CSKA and Viking will meet for the first time in UEFA competition, and Viking will be playing against their first Bulgarian opposition. CSKA, meanwhile, have played a competitive fixture against a Norwegian club on only one previous occasion.
• In the second qualifying round of the 1998/99 UEFA Cup, CSKA were drawn against Molde FK. The first leg in Norway finished scoreless, but goals from Martin Petrov and Valentin Stantchev in the return game at the Balgarska Armia stadium saw CSKA win the match, and the tie, 2-0 to reach the competition proper. There they defeated Servette FC in the first round before succumbing to Club Atlético de Madrid 5-2 on aggregate in the next stage.

Slavia Prague (17/10) Draw (9/4) Monaco (6/4) 108%
SK Slavia Praha, unbeaten in their opening two matches in UEFA Cup Group A, now face an AS Monaco FC side who bounced back into contention with a decisive 2-0 win against Hamburger SV on Matchday 3. Goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and Oliver Veigneau saw the Ligue 1 outfit to overcome the Bundesliga club and, having lost their opening fixture in the section, put their campaign back on course.
• Slavia opened the section with a 4-2 home win against PFC CSKA Sofia, with Pavel Fořt scoring twice and Stanislav Vlček and Karel Piták also on target. The Czech side then twice rallied from a goal down to earn a point at Viking FK in their second fixture, Vlček and Piták again finding the net to secure a 2-2 draw. Monaco, meanwhile, suffered a 1-0 defeat in Stavanger in their first game as Nkosinathi Nhleko gave Viking the points, but bounced back by defeating Hamburg at the Stade Louis II on Matchday 3.
• Monaco travel to Prague for their first meeting with a Czech Republic team, but Slavia have had experience of three previous ties against French clubs. Slavia have won two of those ties and lost once, but of the six previous games, the three that produced a positive result were all settled by a single goal.
• Slavia met French opposition twice in the 1995/96 UEFA Cup. In the third round, the Czech club took on RC Lens and were held to a goalless home draw in the first leg. However, in the Stade Félix-Bollaert for the return, Slavia won the game - and the tie - 1-0 with the vital goal coming from a young Karel Poborský six minutes into extra time.
• Slavia then met FC Girondins de Bordeaux in the UEFA Cup semi-finals the same season and lost both legs 1-0 as the French team went through to the final, where they lost to FC Bayern München.
• The last occasion that Slavia met French opposition was in the 1997/98 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup second round when the Czech team were paired with OGC Nice. The first leg in France was drawn 2-2 with two goals from Dominique Aulanier cancelled out by Slavia forward Karel Vacha. Nice took the lead in the return leg, but an 80th-minute goal from Vladimír Labant levelled the matchon the night and took Slavia through on the away goals rule.

GROUP B

Brondby (6/4) Draw (9/4) Espanyol (7/4) 107%
Brøndby IF will be looking to keep their UEFA Cup campaign alive when they welcome Group B rivals RCD Espanyol. The Danish side, who let a two-goal lead slip at FC Lokomotiv Moskva on Matchday 3, currently lie fourth in the section, a point behind their Spanish opponents, and just two adrift of leaders US Città di Palermo.
• Espanyol came from behind to earn a point against Palermo when Moisés Hurtado Pérez converted a last-minute penalty to salvage a 1-1 draw. It took them to four points in the section following their impressive 1-0 win at Lokomotiv in their opening fixture, achieved thanks to Raúl Tamudo's goal eight minutes after half-time.
• Brøndby also got their campaign off to a positive start as second-half strikes from Marcus Lantz and substitute Johan Absalonsen earned a 2-0 win against Maccabi Petach-Tikva FC. They were leading by the same scoreline in their second outing against Lokomotiv, but a Dmitri Loskov hat-trick was the foundation of a stunning comeback by the home side.
• The clubs have never previously met in UEFA competition, and for 1988 UEFA Cup finalists Espanyol, this will be their first match against Danish opposition.
• Brøndby have been paired with Spanish opposition three times, but are yet to enjoy much success. It started well, the Danish side facing CD Tenerife in the quarter-finals of the 1996/97 UEFA Cup when a goal from current FC Schalke 04 captain Ebbe Sand gave them a 1-0 first-leg lead at home. But the Spanish club triumphed in the reverse fixture, taking the tie to extra time before Antonio Olivera scored with three minutes remaining to complete a 2-1 aggregate win.
• Two seasons later Brøndby were drawn in the same UEFA Champions League group as FC Barcelona, and the might of the Catalan club proved too great for their Danish opponents. Sonny Anderson scored twice at the Camp Nou, while Luís Figo and Rivaldo were on target in Brøndby as both matches ended 2-0.
• Barça and Brøndby were paired again in the third round of the 2003/04 UEFA Cup. Ronaldinho scored the only goal of the first leg in Denmark as the Spanish team took the initiative, and Luis García and Phillip Cocu extended the lead at the Camp Nou. Per Nielsen did manage a late consolation but it was Barcelona that progressed.

Maccabi Petach Tikva (4/1) Draw (11/4) Lokomotiv (4/6) 107%
After losing their opening two UEFA Cup Group B fixtures, Maccabi Petach-Tikva FC need to defeat FC Lokomotiv Moskva to keep their hopes of a place in the knockout stages alive. The Israeli side, who were inactive on Matchday 3, will be up against it against a resurgent Russian side who scored four unanswered second-half goals against Brøndby IF in their last outing, to salvage a stunning 4-2 comeback win.
• Dimitri Loskov scored a hat-trick as Lokomotiv overhauled a 2-0 deficit to gain their first win in the group, following a draw against US Città di Palermo and defeat by RCD Espanyol. Nevertheless, they need to win in Israel to be assured of progressing to the knockout stages.
• Still novices on the European stage, Maccabi have never before met Russian opposition in UEFA club competition. By comparison, Lokomotiv are old hands in Europe and have met Israeli opposition twice before, with mixed results.
• The Russian side were drawn with Maccabi Haifa FC in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, and were soon in control of the tie after a Zaza Janishia hat-trick gave them a 3-0 victory at home. Igor Chugainov then scored a penalty midway through the second half of the second leg to seal a comprehensive aggregate victory.
• Maccabi will find more encouragement in Lokomotiv's tie with Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC in the third round of the 2001/02 UEFA Cup. The Israeli team won 2-1 at the Bloomfield stadium thanks to a last-minute winner from Assaf Domb after Marat Izmailov had cancelled Milan Osterc's earlier strike.
• Osterc was again on target in the return leg in Moscow and the home side could find no way back as they succumbed to a 3-1 aggregate defeat. The Israeli outfit then went on to reach the quarter-finals where they were eliminated by AC Milan.

Re: UEFA CUP 30th Nov/1st Dec

GROUP C

Sampdoria (1/1) Draw (9/4) Hertha Berlin (3/1) 106%
With four teams tied on four points, the meeting between UC Sampdoria and Hertha BSC Berlin now becomes one of the key fixtures in UEFA Cup Group C. Both clubs are unbeaten, with the Italian side being held at home in their opening fixture before recovering from a goal down to overcome Halmstads BK on Matchday 3. Hertha had also taken three points from their trip to Sweden, but were also frustrated at home in a scoreless draw with RC Lens in their most recent engagement.

• Though this will be the first meeting between the clubs in UEFA competition, both teams have previously faced three teams from their opponents' country. Sampdoria met their German teams in three successive seasons in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, while Hertha first came into contact with an Italian club back in 1971.

• Sampdoria's first meeting with a German team came in the 1988/89 Cup Winners' Cup second round when the Italian side eliminated FC Carl Zeiss Jena, from the former East Germany, 4-2 on aggregate. The teams drew 1-1 in Germany with Gianluca Vialli scoring for Sampdoria, and the former Chelsea FC manager was on target in the return leg as further strikes from Pietro Vierchowod and Antonio Carlos Cerezo gave Sampdoria a comfortable win on their way to the final.

• The following season, Sampdoria met BV Borussia Dortmund in the second round of the same competition. This time a late goal from Roberto Mancini, currently coach of FC Internazionale Milano, earned a 1-1 draw away from home, and two more goals from Vialli in the return leg clinched the tie 3-1 on aggregate as the Italian team went one better than the previous campaign and went on to win the competition.

• In their defence of the trophy in 1990/91, Sampdoria lost the opening leg 1-0 at 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the first round, but another Mancini goal and a winner from Marco Branca gave the Italian time a third win from three attempts against German opposition, and maintained a 100 per cent home record in those ties.

• Hertha, meanwhile, first met Italian opposition in the 1971/72 UEFA Cup first round when AC Milan won the first leg 4-2 at the Giuseppe Meazza, and won through despite losing 2-1 in Berlin to progress 5-4 on aggregate.

• It was 28 years until Hertha next met Italian opponents. The Berlin club were against drawn with Milan in the 1999/00 UEFA Champions League first group stage, when Ali Daei scored in Italy to earn the German side a 1-1 draw, and Dariusz Wosz scored the only goal of the return match as Hertha progressed to the second group stage.

• Hertha then drew Inter in the third round of the 2000/01 UEFA Cup. The first leg in Berlin ended scoreless before goals from Alvaro Recoba and Hakan Sükür rendered René Tretschok's strike irrelevant and sent Inter through 2-1 on aggregate. Hertha therefore now meet their first Italian club outside Milan.

Steaua Bucuresti (2/9) Draw (9/2) Halmstads BK (10/1) 109%
Top meets bottom on Matchday 4 in UEFA Cup Group C match with unbeaten leaders FC Steaua Bucuresti playing host to Halmstads BK, who have lost their first three matches. Steaua have not conceded a goal in their two games to date, while the Halmstad defence has been breached nine times, the highest total in the group stage.

• Both clubs have already met RC Lens earlier in the group. The Romanian team recorded an impressive 4-0 win against Lens in the first round of matches to make it two wins from two home games in this season's UEFA Cup having defeated Vålerenga IF 3-1 in the first leg. Halmstad's only other away game in the section, meanwhile, ended in a 5-0 loss at Lens while their home games with Hertha BSC Berlin and UC Sampdoria ended in 1-0 and 3-1 defeats, respectively. Steaua have also played the Italian outfit, grinding out a goalless draw in Genoa on Matchday 2.

• Halmstad travel to Bucharest to meet Romanian opposition for the first time in UEFA competition, while Steaua have encountered a side from Sweden on one previous occasion in a European tie.

• In the 1988/89 European Champion Clubs' Cup quarter-finals, Steaua played IFK Göteborg, and returned from Sweden after the first leg having suffered a 1-0 loss. However, the return leg in Romania proved to be a one-way affair.

• A hat-trick from Romanian forward Marius Lacatus and further goals from fellow internationals Ilie Dumitrescu and Gavril Balint took Steaua to a resounding 5-1 home win to pave the way for a 5-2 aggregate success.

• Having defeated Göteborg, Steaua went though to the final with a win in the semi-final against Galatasary SK. But the Romanian club found AC Milan too strong in the competition's showpiece at the Camp Nou in Barcelona and slipped to a 4-0 defeat.

GROUP D

Grasshoppers (8/15) Draw (3/1) Dnipro (6/1) 105%
Grasshopper-Club will be looking to breathe new life into their stagnant UEFA Cup campaign when they face already-eliminated FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk at the Hardturm stadium. The Swiss side are yet to record a point in Group D following successive defeats by Middlesbrough FC and PFC Litex Lovech, and must defeat Dnipro to avoid probable elimination.

• Like Grasshoppers, Dnipro are yet to pick up a point in Group D, but having already played three games, they are an insurmountable four points adrift of third-placed AZ Alkmaar going into their final fixture. They lost 2-1 to the Dutch side in their opening match, and have since conceded five unanswered goals in games against Litex and Middlesbrough.
• Dnipro's struggle is in stark contrast to last season, when the Ukrainian outfit became the first side to qualify for the knockout stages with three wins in their first three outings.
• The teams have never before met in UEFA competition and for Dnipro this will be their first encounter with Swiss opposition. Grasshoppers have faced teams from Ukraine on two previous occasions, with the ties ending in a win and a loss.
• FC Dynamo Kyiv proved to strong for the Zurich outfit in the first round of the 1982/83 European Champion Clubs' Cup. Heinz Hermann, winner of 117 Swiss caps, conceded an own goal at the Hardturm stadium to give the Ukrainian side the edge in the first leg. Leonid Buryak the scored twice and Anatoli Demianenko added another as Dynamo increased their lead to 4-0 on aggregate.
• Grasshoppers enjoyed more success in the first round of the 1994/95 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup against FC Chernomorets Odesa. Thomas Bickel, Marcel Koller and Nestor Subiat were all on target as the Swiss side took a 3-0 advantage in the home leg, and although Timerlan Gousseinov reduced the deficit with an early goal in the return at the Chernomorets stadium, Grasshoppers held out to win 3-1 on aggregate.

Liteks Lovetch (9/4) Draw (9/4) AZ (7/5) 103%
PFC Litex Lovech need just a point from their match against AZ Alkmaar at the Gradski stadium to join Group D leaders Middlesbrough FC in the UEFA Cup knockout stages. The Bulgarian outfit have looked very impressive so far in the competition, earning successive victories against Grasshopper-Club and FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk to claim maximum points from their first two fixtures.

• Litex have benefited from late goals in both games, Sandrinho's 81st-minute strike sealing the points against Grasshoppers while Milivoje Novakovič and Serhiy Narazenko were both on target in the final 18 minutes against Dnipro. AZ were held to a goalless draw by Middlesbrough on Matchday 3, making it four points from two games after Shota Arveladze and Tarik Sektioui helped them to a 2-1 win at Dnipro on Matchday 1.
• The teams will meet for the first time in UEFA competition and for Litex, this will be the first time that they have faced Dutch opposition. AZ have been drawn against Bulgarian opposition just once before, but that tiw will have happy memories for the Eredivisie outfit.
• It came en route to their run to the 1980/81 UEFA Cup final, when they met Litex's domestic rivals PFC Levski Sofia in the second round. AZ's success was set up by Kees Kist's goal just after half-time in Sofia and, although Emil Spasov earned the home side a 1-1 draw, the second leg was much more one-sided. Kist scored again, while Kees Tol (2), Kristen Nygaard and Jan Peters were also on target in an emphatic 5-0 win.
• AZ went on to the final, where they were narrowly defeated 5-4 on aggregate by Ipswich Town FC in a thrilling encounter but they gained some consolation, and capped a fine season, by winning the 1980/81 Dutch championship for the only time in their history.

Re: UEFA CUP 30th Nov/1st Dec

Im backing Sampdoria (provisionally!) , I watched the full Hertha -lens game last week, it was in Berlin and tehy were fucking pathetic. I think there was only 5 corners in the whole game and Lens had the Lions share of the chances. From what ive seen posted in net land Hertha are in the shit (financially) and only drew 2-2 at home to Monchengladbach @ the weekend.

Where Rene (the german) these days? I could do with his advice now.

Off to find team news...

Those are just the odds for the AH. An asian way of representing the odds. I am not too sure cos I dont really bet with my local bookie which offers the same type of odds. In any case, they are just odds.

I think they're quite interesting PTD in the fact that it is a new type of bet to me. I woiuld say that it nprobably holds quite a bit of strategy to utile it as well as you could. I like the old 1,x,2 myself mind but its mainly due to ignorance that i dont look at other types of betting like Asian and Spread markets etc.

Re: UEFA CUP 30th Nov/1st Dec

Slavia Praha - Monaco

If CSKA will beat Stavanger (and it is probable) , draw in this match would be enough for Slavia to qualify for the next phase of the UEFA Cup. Slavia is after unlucky league match against Blšany (0-0) in full force again. Monaco have a lot of players out for this match and it will be very hard for them to win in Prague. The weather in Prague is ok now - it's clear and the pitch on Strahov is always good, so i hope it will a attacking football today. I think that both teams will be satisfied with the draw today and for me it's the most probable result.
My punt: Draw @3,2 BetFair
