Re: Finland
Wow, another hard-rock entry after Lordy...
And they are singing in their native language...
May take the votes of the Scandinavians and some more but can't see them placed in the top 5.

Re: Finland
It'll suffer from Lordi comparisons and probably be dismissed by most based on that. Doubt it'll get through the semi, altho the band are fairly big in skandiland and central europe...i think.
But still, Lordi was eurovision, this isnt.

Re: Finland
heh heh i love the scandies and their death metal love. Sounds very guns and roses the first bit of singing. aye not bad at all I like their look. Very heavy metal. Not great but im enjoying it. 80/1 and as low as 33/1. Its finishing well too. Aye this is good. Maybe a bit too main stream metal for eurovision but its on my shortlist

Re: Finland
I think thats the problem Komp - Lordi worked as they were metal at its most gay and most glam, big suits, masks, ridiculous props etc. This takes away all those elements and leaves all the bits that dont suit the competition.

Re: Finland
I'd agree with that Beanie. How could we back them? Remember a couple of years ago, aye 2 years ago we had that dude with the black hair and a bit of red in it doing some 70's glam song with a bit of bowie mixed in? switzerland i think poss. The problem with it wa that it sounded too much just like a normal song and all it could do was finish a respectable 10th or something. this to me is top 12 respectability and nothing more.

Re: Finland
I agree with Beanie. The similarities are far too obvious with Lordi which means this automatically loses squillions of points. Even if it was brilliant, people are still thinking, 'How obvious is this rip-off? Do you think we're stupid?' It's almost like trying to pass off the same entry hoping people won't notice.
No. It just can't. I'm discarding it.

Re: Finland
I'm gonna break a betting rule and oppose something I got wrong again, simply because the odds on this are now ridiculous - I mean its around 8th favourite for the entire thing now on Betfair.
There's not a snowball's chance in hell that this wins, or even gets close - the odds are only dropping because people are drawing Lordi comparisons and thinking that that indicates that this has a big chance - as stated this is a million times different from Lordi. People voted for them because of the glam rock nonsense, the stupid hats, the silly lyrics, the fireworks coming out of the guitars, not because it was rock. It was Eurovision rock which this isn't. Add in a poor draw and its going nowhere.
Wonder if a bookie will give me about 2/1 on Israel to beat this in a matchbet(which on current outright odds would be about the price), that would be the punt of the century.

Re: Finland
Evs for Bosnia to beat Finland at Centrebet, surely that can't be a bad bet. Was 3/5 less than 48 hours ago.

Re: Finland
The dive on the finland price seems to be for 2 reasons - a) there's a rumour that it won the first semi final...I'd be 95% sure that that's complete bollocks with the strength of late songs in that semi, as well as that there was a similar whisper last year that Latvia won the semi, which was rubbish.
Second, I guess people are trying to make easy comparisons between the Finnish win 2 years ago - I don't think the songs are similar at all, Lordi was the campest act for a long while. And even if it was similar, that surely can't be a good thing - why should people vote for the same country with the same type of song just two years later. It can only count against them.
Yeah, good bet that - I'll give it a miss since I don't like to oppose something I've recently misjudged(layed them to qualify) but yea, nice price.

Re: Finland
The fact it's in at all I find quite worrying. It's bad but it's here.
I'm starting to get really concerned about some of the stupid entries this year: the pirates etc. I think people just like taking the piss and think it's a great laugh to vote for the shittiest ones. "Haha, we're rebels! Let's make the Danish guy in the braces a celebrity!" This one is actually better quality than Lordi. Oh Lordi. Troubles so hard.
Obviously I much prefer Bosnia to this. Check out a couple of the Eurovision winners from recent years though and you'll see any old piece of shit can win.
We've got faith seepage in the Finland thread!

Re: Finland
I fully agree that its a far better song than Lordi's effort, no doubts there, I actually quite like it, and he's got a pretty awesome voice, but its just so unEurovisiony. Like you say tho - where did the votes come from in semi 1? It surely wasnt the wildcard(unless the juries were determined to put another Western country through(altho there were better candidates than this)) and it didn't(if the leak is correct) get any votes from Ireland, who would surely have been the type of audience who might have gone for it. I'm a bit concerned that the big misjudgement here is that that mob in the East fancies this - and if so...err...

Re: Finland
Forgot about the wildcard possibilities. I'd feel so much better if it was. This lapse into confidence zero is normal for me though. I have an entire day of frenzied 100% certainty on everything I'm backing which gradually fades as I sit and think things over.
I'm praying I don't need to worry about this or the pirates or braces boy or the four or five substandard euro poppers. Bastards all and no doubt proud.
Ok. Time for a beer and a trip back to the land of Eurovision joy and wonder.
"Look children! It's Boaz, host of Countdown.... when I was your age... he won Eurovision by a record 15,000 points.... Hwacch llama hammock, Boaz!"
