Major News

I was just on the Deja-vu thread. It always feels like i'm on there these days anyhow i was thinking of things that are BIG NEWS and how i enjoy BIG NEWS i suppose due to my detachness to it all. When was the last BIG NEWS?

Tsumani () was pretty big. Was it REALLY BIG though? The Twin Towers in 2002 now that was big news i suppose. Princess di's death was big news. As a nation we weeped although i would like it be known that i didn't Oh no it was more of a big circus to me and i was largely unaffected. Other big news?

I used to like it when the country was snowed under and everything stops. I used to jump out of bed at the joys of having Breakfast Time tv (as apposed to 'pages from ceefax') just hoping that not only hadnt the snow stopped there was even more snow. I would be flipping myself about in raptures at this. I just liked it as i liked to see people's daily routine broken up. It's times like these that sometimes you remember the important things in life. actually im ashamed to admit it but i obvioulsy don't hold anything as being important. Just data on a server as Rene says.

Kings Cross fire was big at the time. I must have missed loads. Shooting of JFK i wasnt about for and i mised the moon landings too. The Cuban Missile crisis must have been mental. Comeing home from work or shool one day to find that the Russians had placed big fcuk off missiles about no length at all from American shores. I bet you it felt like the end of the world. 50's sci-fi and Radiation Man etc. amazing days

Re: Major News

what?

Collette that sticks in my mind too. I remeber in 1978 when i was in primary 3/4 or something. I was standing in a hallway due to me being suspended from having a last break for some reason and my teacher came up to me in the bright sunlight. We spoke about my rascally ways and somewhere along the lines she said 'komp did you actually know that 1984 was considered a special year by people' I didnt and i dont remember her telling me about the george orwell book but i always new it was a 'special year' till i probably found out abou the book later. And a good book it was too. im a big Orwell fan and Keep the Aspidistra Flying is probably my fav book ever. Well maybe.

Aye sorry i just thought i would share all that with you as everytime i 1984 comes up im always seing me in the sun as a wee boy being told about it being a special year.

What was V day Betfly? the bus bombings?

What about the iraqi wars? 1991? Just the turn of the year. Early January? Correct me if i am wrong Aye thats it it bloody interuped the snooker final. We wuz wanting to watch our Jimmy

Thinking back on it my dad the cnut came into my room and told me to put on the news at like 6am. Im not sure exactly why as i had no such interest in the royal family etc but it still had me for some strange reason staying up for the day gripped to the news.

I havent caught much big news to be honest. I dont rate the Tsunami as much. Di def was and Twin Towers most definately the biggest for me yet. I actually got home from lunch at school and on the sports news channel they had a headline about plane flying into towers. Immediately i knew it was huge if it made sports headlines so i put overand 5 mins later the 2nd plane comes in.

Mad day that was....Like watching a film.
