Nothing to spill this time Keg. Was a good weekend, was good to meet Jez and we all had a few beers together..

Met a lot of new folks and some I've already met before. Joe from Virgin was looking after everyone very well as always, cheers Joe.

So how does someone like you become mates with an old Chinese dude Jez? Was it Jimmy Woo or Wong, something like that anyway the lucky bugger. Incidentally, It took me a long time to make that call when that bloke went all in with the J on the board, basically the speed he went all in was what made me think I was ahead. Of course I was ahead but never did me much good. Aw well all good experience.

Re: Maybury Casino Edinburgh

Well my weekend of poker wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I can safely say I was out of my depth but it was all an experience I suppose.

We arrived at the Gala at about 5.30pm and met up with Tikay who had already registered me, Joe Legge was there and a few people I now know from different events. Some of the people from the Champs League - Hobbo Three, Rosco pkr, Dave488, milber were there. All very nice people. Hobbo was staying at the same place as us, as he and mole were there with Virgin.

There was the usual delay that seems to happen at poker events, added with the fact that there was bedlam at the airports because of the terrorist attacks.

We kicked off just around 7pm. I was table 1 seat 9, Liam Flood was on my table. At the time I did not know he is a legend but was told this a couple of times later. Tikay informed everyone on my table that I was his wife. This had Liam asking if a move I made later I'd learned from Tikay, I told him I had taught Tikay and he said that must be why he was doing well these days.

I didn't feel at all nervous but when I lifted my chips my hands were shaking. My first bet was with 78c, the guy beside me raised on the hand before and everyone folded so I just did the same, took the blinds and was quite happy.

Now when you have one hour blinds starting at 25 - 50 the last thing you want at the start is hands, and even more so, marginal hands. Of course that's all I had to start with. AK, KQ, A10's one after another. With each one I raised, (no point looking scared early on) or I had to call someone elses decent raise. With each one I didn't hit on the flop, made a continuation bet and EVERY time got callers. Then I would end up folding. Quickly I had lost quite a lot of chips for such a slow blind structure.

There was a couple of guys on my table who played almost everything and often had nothing, of course the time I had paired the board the other guy had a straight.

On one hand that I won I made it too easy for others to call and was leaving myself open to people getting straights and flushes, this is something I was bad for doing online and had been improving on. Live I seemed to take a step backwards.

I won a good hand with the nut flush bringing me back up to almost even when we had a 10min break after two hours. We got our 6,000 chip top up at this point. A couple of guys had already had theirs on my table.

Not long before the break for food came my downfall. I had 9,10s the flop brings another two spades and a spade on the turn. I then donate half my stack to the constant caller who had A7s.

I go into the break with 3,000 chips which is 10x BB so I'm in an all-in situation for my return. At this point I go completely card dead. Now I know it's any two cards but when you are here for the experience and want to hang in there for as long as you can it's impossible to go all-in with 10,2o and trust me that was about the best my hands got.

To sum up my luck for the day when I finally got a hand worthy of anything I was on the BB, it was 10,6 and I got to see the flop. K10 rag. There is me and one other guy in the hand. Just then the other guy says that he has seen the next card due out and it gets mucked....10 My face must have shown for sure that I had a 10 as I was gutted. I checked, he raised and I fold. I end up all-in with A2 and less than 2,000 chips. I was called by a few and Liam Flood's 66 wins, it may even have improved, i don't know I just knew there was nothing for me and that was the end of my tourney.

The weekend itself was good, Joe Legge was great company, he has to be one of the nicest people I know.

Lots of drinking after busting out. And the legendary Gala Maybury burger and chips, a must for anyone visiting the casino.

Met Jezza who is great too, he started on the cash table on Saturday then decided drinking would be more fun. On the Sunday Ed and Jezza played the £150 tourney but I'll let them tell their own stories. Anything else I remember I'll add on but that's pretty much it.

I spent a lot of time touting TDP, can't stop myself.:wasntme

Good wee write up Mrs, don't be sore on yourself about the poker though, all good experience and the next time you'll be better prepared with this one below your belt. Oh, and, unlucky. Big cash in the next event DD.

Re: Maybury Casino Edinburgh

Yeah I had a good weekend.

Got there early on the Friday (After being told the wrong check in time for my hotel and arriving several hours too early ARRRGHHH . Edinburgh is the only place I had never played poker before in Scotland and thus I had to join the casino. I duly did and went in at opening time. The place filled up pretty quickly w poker players but since the Dundee/Aberdeen/TDP crew were not arriving till the next day there was hardly anyone there I knew personally. Never minnd, the cash games were thin on the ground so I registered for the 100 + rebuys donkament that night. On closer inspection I found it to be that only 1 rebuy or add on was allowed so it was basically a 200 freezeout. I took my seat to find it was Jez vs 9 locals who he had never seen before in his life so I took it slowly at first. I played tight the first few rounds and didnt get much. A few orbits in a local who seemed to be a pretty good player put a small raise in on my big blind from the cut off (so I didnt figure he had that strong a hand) and I decided to defend w the old J9o. The flop of A53r was not exactly great so I checked it and he put in a sort of standard sized (half pot maybe) Cbet. I put in a smallish checkraise to this. I figured if he didnt have the Ace he would instafold and given my tight image he might even consider passing anything bar AK/AQ. He thought about it for a LONG time before calling me (urgh). I realised he must have the ace and nothing else to call this and I was not going to try and bluff him off this pot anymore. The turn and river were of no consequence and went check/check very quickly both streets. He turned over A7o first to win the pot. I just threw my cards face down in the muck. "CARDS DEALER PLEASE" he literally screamed across the table . Invoking the showdown rule where my cards must be turned. I had seen others muck their cards so I just tried to do it also, I dont particularly care if they see im bluffing or not. The dealer turned my no pair no draw over for the table to see which was met with stunned silence as they had all thought I had had a good hand . "YOU CANT MUCK YOUR CARDS HERE THIS ISNT VEGAS NOW SONNY THIS IS EDINBURGH" The local w A7 literally shouted at me from the other end of the table. "Really?" I said in retort "I hadnt noticed" lol, which seemed to shut them all up. At the first break I had won no pots of any note and was down to half my chips. Pretty soon when the restart came around, I doubled up w my AA v JJ preflop but I still had less than what I started with. I gradually worked this up with well timed blind steals to about 12k (we started with a total of 8k) when the average was about 15k when the following hand came up. It got folded round to me in the SB. The big blind was pretty new to the table but I had already established that he was a good internet tournament player. He seemed to raise a lot preflop in blind v blind battles (I had noticed this when he was against the other blind player, It had cost me nothing as I had not had a blind confrontation with him yet, my adjustment was just to fold all my crappy hands when it got folded to me as the chance of him raising me if I limped was too big to take with my marginal stack). I looked at my cards to find a not bad AJo. I decided given what I had figured about him, and the fact that I had not actually played a pot with him yet that I should limp and he would probably raise, which I could reraise. I duly limped and to my shock he just went all in! Oh god I said out loud, I was going to do that! I had to think very carefully about this as he had more chips than me and I was going to be calling for my tournament life. I figured A-rag was probably the biggest part of his range. Small pairs were also possible but so was the dreaded AK/AQ. A lot of players just go all in preflop with AK in donkaments because they hate playing the flop when they miss but I wasnt so sure this player would do that. It was still definately a worry for me tho. I took an awful long time over this decision as calling for all your chips in a donkament w AJo is not a good idea unless you are VERY sure of yourself. I spoke to him a bit basically giving him big clues as to what I had to see if I could get a tell from him. He really looked like he didnt want a call. Eventually I called and he tabled A6o - awesome. My hand held and I doubled, rocketing me over the average stack to 20k+ WOOHOO. On my next big blind we got the button (a very tight player who really was just pish imo) to limp when the SB went all in preflop for 15k. Lol donkaments. I looked down at my cards in the BB praying for a good hand and I was delighted obv to see AA looking back up at me. I called, the button folded and the SB showed 44. The first card off on the flop was a 4 and I missed the redraw sending me plumeting back to the realms of the short stack AGAIN. ARRRGGHHHHHHH. I did however steal very well after this and got my stack back up to a reasonable level without being all in and called once. When we broke for the last 2 tables I kept stealing in position and folding mostly in early (I got no real hands after the AA). Players were falling quickly and although I was always below average I kept my head above water. One time when i was all in on a steal for the umpteenth time the locals were begging the BB to call me This is bad tournament etiquette obviously as its unfair on me. It was a bit of a compliment I suppose as I was playing well and they wanted rid of me but it still pissed me off a little. Eventually a loose chinese player raised, I reraised all in w AQo (I had him covered) and he called w K6hearts (lol donkaments). My hand held again and I finally had above average. Soon we were on the bubble and hand for hand. Still I was card dead like I had been all tournament mostly and I was folding a lot. There was a short stack who was really tight at our table and we were all obviously gunning for him. Folded to me in the SB one time I looked down at JTo and decided to just limp. Usually I would raise here but I had played so well and carefully all tournament I decided I didnt want to put my chips at risk in a marginal spot where I would fold to a reraise. I had about 40k to the BBs 50k in chips. The BB did the usual and raised another 10k to go. Fcuk this guy I thought, I am not going to be pushed around just because its the bubble so I decided to call with the sole intention of making a play if I missed the flop and I thought he was weak (umm yeah ok it was a rush of blood to the head lol). He does not need a lot to raise with position in a blind v blind confrontation on the bubble when he was more chips than me so far more often than not he doesnt have anything great here which was another reason I called. The flop came K33r which was terrible for me. I checked and he checked (hmmm). The turn was a 5 which put a backdoor spade draw out there. I checked and he checked. HMMM. The river was the 8 spades which I very much doubt helped him (ok he could have A8 I suppose). I thought it through and decided he either had kings full or a very weak hand. If he had just a King he would have 100% bet the flop. If he had any pair he would PROBABLY have bet the flop or at least bet the turn when I checked twice. I was therefore not scared he had made 88full or anything now. There was a slight chance he had KK full but I went for the bluff. If I put in a bet of half my stack it was still a pretty small bet in relation to the size of the pot and he might call me with literally anything given the pot odds, it would also leave me crippled anyway and guaranteed to be called when I went all in. So I decided the only way to win here was to just go all in. He could only call if he had KK full the way the hand had gone down and it was also the only bet he would fold everything else to. So I announced all in and thought to myself inside my head "YOU CANT CALL BITCH!" (lol). He sighed and shook his head and said the last card changed everything eh? lol wtf I dunno but I just kept calm. He folded after thinking about it for a while and I mucked my bluff, pleased with my read and play. Unfortunately for me I STILL was card dead for the rest of the bubble whilst AA/KK/QQ were passed around my table like candy to everyone else. So my stack dropped slowly but I was still just about average chips from the big bluff I ran. EVENTUALLY the tight short stack player moved all in from the button on my blind. I would have had odds to call w any two here but the sb raised again over the top. Sigh I thought and had a look at my cards. FFS I had TT. I thought about it and reasoned since it was the bubble the sb would jus have called with anything marginal here at all and the only hands he would reraise with would be JJ+/AK. He COULD have AK but I couldnt be arsed coinflipping for my tournament after all the hard work and good play so I folded. the button had JT and the SB QQ. the sb made quads and it was final table time. I had played with the people in the final for the last few hours mostly and knew one player (Graeme harrison) from vegas. The chips were evenlyish spread with everyone having a chance and me just being below average. 9th place paid 260 quid whilst 1st was 5k. A big difference. However what was more enticing was the awesome glass cut trophy the winner would get. Engraved "Scottish Poker Texas NL 100+REBUY Champion 2007" I thought it would be a sweet addition to the mantlepiece and I was desperate to get my hands on it! Alas I started the final card dead apart from one AK I raised to win just the blinds. A few big pots were traded between the other players tho leaving graeme harrison the clear leader in the final by a huge margin and one player left with just a big blind for the next hand. We were still 8 handed at this point so when this 1bb player got eliminated it would be the second jump in the payout for all of us (another shortstacker having gone 1st hand). The 1bb player went all in preflop as expected the next hand and it got folded to the sb who called it. The bb checked and the flop came AQQr. Usually in tournaments here it is standard practice to just check it out, especially in cases like this where this is not even a side pot and you need a hand to win the main one as the guy is all in. I am kind of half a believer in this ideal and although I will happily check anything down thats weak if I hold something like top pair etc I will bet as I would like to be the one that knocks the player out to win the chips etc. The sb checked and the bb bet about half the pot. It is incredibly silly to bet here without a hand not because you SHOULD check it out like every player thinks but simply because there is no sidepot to win. To win the mainpot against the all in player you are going to have to showdown a winner and it is also in your interests to knock him out anyway as you increase up the payladder. Basically bluffing makes 0 sense here. Anyway the SB obviously folded and to everyones horror when the cards went on their backs the BB had bluffed w 92o LOL DONKAMENTS. The all in player had T8o and ended up survivng and scooping the pot w T high lol. The SB moaned he had folded Jack high and the unknown BB player faced the wrath of the locals in the final who muttered under their breaths at his sillyness and said all sorts. I did not partake in this however. As frustrated as the locals might be and as silly as the bbs move might have seen he is of course free to play his cards however he wants, no matter how much it pisses off the local edinburgh rocks and he certainly doesnt deserved to be belittled anyway thats for sure (even if he had cost us all a 150 quid lol). So I stayed quiet. I was later to find out (unknown to me at the time). That this bluffing BB player was the PL representative in the 1k event the next day (lol). Someone mentioned his nick to me and he was not around when I was there so I very much doubt he even knew who I was if I had told him my online nick. I spoke to him briefly later on in the weekend and he seemed like a nice guy (I never mentioned PL or here or anything to do with that to him as its just not worth it). It was just this bluff seemed a bit weird was all. Anyway it had no impact as now mr 3bb + ante was gone a few hands later anyway and we continued to play. I stayed completely card dead and my stack dwindled slowly. I only barely stayed alive by stealing a couple of times. Eventually I was folded to when I looked down at 77. I had about 47k in my stack and with the blinds at 5k/10k and a running ante of 1k from every player everyhand I pushed all in. The PL player called me with TT arrghh, it held and I was out. Gay. All that hard work for frigging 460 quid. I vowed never to play tourneys again but ofc I was again on sunday haha.

The next day was the main event. I wasnt playing but knew loads who were so arrived early and met up with everyone. Joe Legge is a top guy as has already been mentioned as he kept the drinks flowing for everyone whilst the players were in the main event. I met up with Yen and Dan Dan who are both great people and a great laugh and railed the action as the cards went in the air. Unforunately Dan Dan was out a few hours later, it really didnt sound like her day as she told us all what happened. Especially the T6 debacle. But there is always another another tournament in a few months time......Nevermind we just got the drinks in instead I sat to play the cash games but I just didnt fancy it and would rather catch up with people and sit and have a drink with the TDP crew instead so I quit early doors and had some banter instead which was a good laugh. We all came back the next day for more of the same and the 150 freezout which both me and yen sid played in. I was out pretty quickly (reraising w AKs preflop v JJ which I lost). But Yen and Joe legge were still in. Joe got kod about an hr later as we all sat and told our bad beat stories to Dan Dan and got drunk again. However it was Yen with the worst bad beat story at the hands of a friend of mine who seemed the most pissed off - and understandably so! Jimmy Wong is one of the characters of the Scottish poker scene Yen and once you get to know him is a real laugh to be at the table with. I must have played poker with him now almost every week for the last 4 years and he is well known (and liked) by everyone in the live scots poker scene. He is however completely loose and aggressive when he plays poker, and a huge gambler capable of going on massive tilt lol. He was the creator of the theory that everyone that raises preflop in NL hold em has AK and thus this is what he puts everyone on when they do raise. You did make a good call against him and just got unlucky yen, this is standard wonger and is why he turns up on final tables with 3/4 of the chips in play half the time . Nevermind we all kept drinking and ordered the mayburys entire stock of cheeseburgers (or so it seemed). The Darvel Tiger then proved herself just a pussycar as she curled up on the sofa of the bar lounge and went to sleep, awwww bless lol. Joe and I decided not to wake her up and came back to find her ranting she got told off by some security guard or something . I still dont know how I drove back the next day as I got about 3hr sleep (I stayed in the casino with the wonger who was playing roullete till 5am) and then had to drive back to Aberdeen a few hrs later after almost 0 sleep. Still it was great to meet everyone and I hope we can do it again soon with more people turning up if they can make it.
