'Floating' - How Does This Line Look?

Villain is largely unknown but seems an OK TAG from what I saw. He will view me as an unknown.

FWIW, I wanted to flat call pre-flop to mix it up. Is this a good flop to float on? Comments on all streets welcome.

Did you tell me about this hand already Scott? Can't remember.

Looks to me like he's got you by the balls personally, he's checked the river to induce a bet and you duly oblige. He should now be steaming right over the top in my eyes, probably folded then?

What is "floating"? No wise cracks now please. In the poker term I mean.

Floating is when you call a street (on the flop in this hand) with nothing and have the intent to take the pot away on future streets.

Re: 'Floating' - How Does This Line Look?

Hi Scottie,

I dont really think this is the greatest flop to float on. Two reasons mostly. 1) A good player will put you on the draw when you call on the flop and be far more inclined to fire a 2nd barrel on the turn if it blanks (which will you will probably have to fold to). and 2) The K is a bit too likely to have hit him. It fits a LOT of hands he would raise with preflop like AK, KQs etc. Your probably going to have a hard time bluffind him off top pair.

I find its a more profitable play on boards where a flat call is really really scary. Something like QQx with no draw. Or also on a board which you dont really think is likely to have hit the pfr, something like T53r.

As you played it btw I love the river bet. I dont like the original float attempt like I said but I give credit to your river bluff. Hes crying into his keyboard at that one . You probably get lookd up by KJ/T w J/T of spades. He folds most other things I would think.

I just wondered - why did you float instead of doing a stop and go?

you are giving the opponent more outs with another card, altho you might get a few extra chips... although i guess "floating" doesnt imply that you necessarily have push?

first time I ever heard of floating tbh, but then i noticed the term on 2+2
